  1. Yeah it's beech. Got 4 big logs just like that in my yard. Thanks Gary [emoji106]
  2. Several years ago we had a tv inspector knock on the door. Tvi: our records show you don't have a tv license. Me: I can't help you. Tvi: I need to inspect your television. Me: I can't help you. Tvi (getting angry): I'll come back with the police! Me: I can't help you. Tvi(getting very red and angry): you can't watch tv without a licence! Me (grinning): I can't help you. Tvi(frothing) You...you... I'm going to get the police!!! Me: I can't help you. Tvi wanders away gesticulating and mumbling. I'd love to have seen his face later when he realised we already had a tv license. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji106]
  3. I'm open to most ideas, Had a v8 petrol disco, burnt the clutch out in 3 months. £200-250 a week in petrol.[emoji23] Ideally a diesel for towing, but also taking crew and kit off road. My only concern with mercs is the cost of repairs. [emoji106]
  4. I've got an old vw golf, for family/subbing/quoting and the transit crew can tipper is back on the road.[emoji16] Yes it's fun nipping about in the golf, and very cheap. But the transit is the work horse. New is a great idea, but my work wouldn't justify it.[emoji51]
  5. Airspade and this stuff. Can drive plant across it. Really easy to install. [emoji106]
  6. Thyme?[emoji12] Or possibly "broom". [emoji106]
  7. Available over Christmas and New Years.
  8. I'm familiar with the urgence at Rennes. Full of smack heads and alcoholics ten years ago. My parents stay regularly at pontchaiou. Private room, clean and tidy. Staff are ok. But yes. You do pay 20-30% of your wage on "social contributions" and then you pay income tax.
  9. Look at the French system. It's state funded and private. State pays 70%, your private medical insurance covers the other 30%. And it bloody works. Both my parents are elderly and frail. Specialist... Can't do today, but 10am tomorrow? Brilliant. I had a tumour growing in my left index finger some years back. Got dicked around by NHS for over 18 months. Ended up performing the surgery myself. I'd rather lose a finger than a hand.
  10. Get a stihl cordless chainsaw. Fantastic bit of kit. [emoji106]

  12. I sub all over the country, and I only know one guy who does big trees regularly on a national level.@bigtreedon Have a look at the today's job thread at his posts. [emoji106]
  13. You have some patience Andy [emoji106]
  14. Yew grows straighter with less knots in a Mediterranean climate. A lot of "English" long bows were made from imported wood.
  15. I did have a stash of 6'-8' ash poles. But most got eaten by the firewood guy. If you want, you can pop by my yard and have a rummage. Or where are you based, as I travel a lot? [emoji106]
  16. Cherry is great for bows actually. Nearly all hardwoods can be used. There's a bowyer on tinterweb somewhere who makes a cherry bow with 30+ knots. Works really well. I find hazel quite brittle, ash is my favourite. English yew is a waste of time. Get the Spanish stuff much cleaner. [emoji106]
  17. Doh. Cut the 7'/8' laburnum in half a few weeks ago. Got some 4'?
  18. An excellent idea, You'll need extra deep cut uprights to mill that deep. But the middle is the best and widest boards. A 60" panther mill should do the job nicely. [emoji106]
  19. Hit the top one. It's Chinese cheese.[emoji106]
  20. If you haven't put any solvents on yet, use a scalpel. I used to do this. Don't use a hairdryer, it hardens the glue. The best solvent to remove the glue afterwards is wd40. [emoji106]
  21. Yeah, a Kombi system, a decent Saw, a 4" chipper and a transit tipper. Cheap but effective. [emoji106]
  22. Stihl emergency services goggles can be worn over glasses.
  23. Two of my favourite saws. [emoji106]
