  1. Interesting. I’m on an Norwegian Oil and Gas Platform and just asked two different Norgies. Both looked at me like I was crazy. One says it might have been a law at some point in the past but not now. I’ll ask some others and see what they say.
  2. Maybe the two other guys who live in Norway could add input here as well. From having lived in Norway and have mates who have built houses in Norway within the last 5 years I can assure you they did not need an alternative heating source. The house I rented in Norway just had electric heating. The house I bought in Norway just had electric heating. Im gonna take a whimsical books comment with a big full of salt because it sure does not tally up with what I’ve actually seen and lived. I don’t remember reading that passage myself and I’m sure it would have stood out if I had. Perhaps it’s a kommuner thing? Parts of Norway that get severe weather might have local legislation? It certainly is not in Rogaland where I lived.
  3. I have the same book. I don’t recall reading that? Could you post a pic of that up? When I bought my house in Norway there was only electric heaters in the house. Same as many people I know. Most new houses are so well insulated that it’s next to impossible to run a stove and keep the windows closed. The new builds next to the house I sold, detached 3 story dwellings, do not have stoves fitted as standard.
  4. Oi!
  5. Supposedly Norwegian Law says we should 🤣
  6. I’m working off of Norway just now. It’s wild out there. Currently 2 knots off of being stopped from working outside at all. This is the swell coming up to the lowest level of the Rig, sea level is 26m below.
  7. First I’ve heard of the law requiring you to have a Wood Stove. I’ll have to tell my Norwegian friends who only have electricity. 🤣
  8. Well every cloud has a silver lining.
  9. Did I say it was new? Id not want their job either. That does not mean that positions like this does not attract low educated, judgmental people who get off being in positions of power. I have an inkling what your retort will be and to perhaps preempt that I'll say that although I fully appreciate I am quite judgmental Id certainly not wish to be put in a position where my personality traits could ruin peoples lives. Social workers on the other hand seem to thrive on just that.
  10. I bought a dual bag chip extractor off of ebay for £300, each bag is 220l. Couple that with a 10-20m hose and you'd have the job done in a day. Someone in the loft with the hose. Someone at the bottom changing out bags.
  11. Awesome! Love it. Please tell me you’re not just gonna burn that as firewood now you know it’s age? Looks beautiful oak. A very talented member here made me a nest of bowls from some dry oak. Came out better than I could have expected.
  12. Not that sense. Social workers in training. Friends of friends who are. Their unfounded aloofness is baffling. But give a small person an ounce of power and it goes to their heads.
  13. Just had an email back from them. They mention they plan on holding the course in April, Im working all April so Im hoping that slips to May. This is the highlight really; Courses will cover all the necessary skills and information required to manufacture and construct a traditional timber frame building measuring 3m x 4m. Course 101 - Week 1 We will construct a traditional timber frame structure measuring 3m x 4m up to wall plate level. The cost for this course will be £500 including vat. Course 102 - Week 2 We will complete the roof structure for the structural frame completed during week 1. The cost for this course will be £500 including vat.
  14. Cheers Dave, seems like they've not had a course since the plandemic. I'll drop them an email anyway. Within driving distance for me but my old man lives in Rosyth so posible I could crash there.
  15. Oh aye, I remember you mentions a place in Scotland right enough. I'll have a look once Eggs sends me the link.
  16. Yes, I most likely will be. Ive cut the oak for my Porch and made a start in the timber for the drying barn. Would just be nice to know how to scribe and maybe even make a small hut/cabin one day. So little time, so many things I wanna try out and do before Im to old. If I ever get to be in a position to buy some land/forest I think Id go the Scribe route. But I'll see how the cabin comes out with the Log Moulder first.
  17. ’d just like to get started really. Just as a hobby and to do a few bits and bobs around the yard. Watched loads of vids but yet to find the time to make a start. For me a weeks intense course on Timber Framing would be ideal. I know there’s courses in England. I’ve downloaded plans for a simple three sided barn that I’ll use for drying slabs. Hopefully start that next summer.
  18. I'll drop you a PM then, thanks. I like the idea of a course, but reading up on it it seems very protracted and suited to someone just looking for a weeks holiday. Im clearly wrong since you did it and obviously found it worthwhile. Id like to do a Timber Framing course as well.
  19. Cheers, I will do. Some light reading to pass the time off-shore.
  20. Cheers Eggs! I was not sure if he was a member here, or a pal or something. I guess I should have googled it.
  21. And how do you do that?
  22. We breed far to many State dependants in the West. There is a very worrying trend with the Left here in the likes of the U.K, Germany and the US where they are creating policies of Nannydom. (If that’s not a word it is now. 🤣) I know you love the SNP but it’s their modus operandi. In my mind this creates a nation of people who expect every aspect of their lives to be taken care of for them. I see it at my kids Nursery. A worrying portion of the parents expect the Nursery teachers to teach their kids in every aspect, including potty training. It’s unreal. It seems the more the State takes control the more adults happily relinquish responsibility. Every town it seems normal for gangs of feral boys and girls to be roaming the streets doing as they please. It’s like parents have just given up.
  23. I’m glad I was not the first to say this! From my admittedly limited exposure to Social Workers they’ve been either Hippies or Hitler. They all where from Council Estate backgrounds and generally not overly bright SNP types. Telling you they where a Social Worker or in training then pausing just long enough for you to give the expected oooooh.
