  1. I hope so. I’m gonna fire in some 1.5” panel pins. Better than nothing I guess? On the headboard I’ll also splatter some glue on as well. Obviously I can’t do that on the footboard. But any other suggestions are welcome.
  2. Ok, I’ll do that then. Two Dowels per side. Managed to get the Footboard mocked up. Came out ok I think? Just had time to sand the side beams then i had to go mow the lawn then get the dinner on. ?
  3. Just glue the Tennons as in where my finger is? The idea being it will bash apart later? I’ve cut these 200x35mm beans for the mistress. Will screw a batton on the inside and I’m not sure what to use for slats yet? The wife says pine as it will have some give. Think that will work ok?
  4. Thanks for the Tip Les, three was the plan. Any and all advice is welcome as Im sure I'll still find a way of screwing it up. Where would you use the glue? I was hoping to not use glue so it can be broken down again when my daughter moves out. Even the Headboard and Posts is heavier than I can comfortably carry, especially up the stairs.
  5. Cheers Les. Yes, I had planned on using Dowels and have already bought a few meters of 1/2" and 3/8" (to see what looks best) But Ratmans dual Dowel idea makes sense and I'll give that a bash. All kinda new to me so learning as I go. Yesterday I popped over to Norway for a MRI of my lower back and neck, was emailed the pictures within 3 hours and also sent to the Doc. Not bad at all. Had a few hours at it this morning. So hopefully will get the Footboard mocked up by the time I have to stop playing.
  6. Now that’s a good idea! Will do that, cheers!
  7. Ahh, I see. I assumed as you where posting in the firewood forum you where cutting firewood. Birch obviously makes very good firewood, hence my question.
  8. The Tennons are only 50% of the way through. Thinking about it now I should have carried the Mortice on with the chisel so the pocket was deeper, but too late now. For me to Dowel it now Id have to be 20-25% of the way in and Im worried it would look really odd being off center. I thought if I screwed it from the side I could tighten as required. What you you recommend?
  9. May I ask why? Seems a rather odd choice to actively not want?
  10. Good idea! Let me know what you come up with so I can copy it.
  11. LED's outside or attached to the Mill? Whats the plans for the 10x4?
  12. So my Daughters been nagging me for over two years to build her a bed. Finally getting around to it, and more importantly have the timber to do so dry enough. I Milled the Oak with my Alaskan a couple of years now and dried it in Polly Tunnel. The Slabs are 15% moisture now, but Im thinking this will be ok in my old single glazed ice box of a farm house. Did not really have a plan, just googled Oak Slab Beds and saved a few idea's, here's how far Ive got as of now. Took me a couple of days to re-saw the Slabs on the Mill to get them flat and level and Mill all the other items like posts. (My Back is buggered so can only do so much a day.) Then left them all for 4 weeks whilst I went off-shore to settle. Then another 2 days just sanding and sanding and sanding. The last two days have seen me measuring, marking, scratching my head, then running the lines out and starting again. But I've managed to mock up the Headboard. All looking square and true with minimal (for me) gaps. Maxed out and then some my new hobby Morticer. I think the max is 100mm but I managed to get 105mm on with some jiggery pokery. Ideally Id have liked the tennons to have sunk 3/4 of the way through the 4" Posts and drilled the Posts from the front for 1/2" Dowels but the Morticer does not have the reach. So I'll have to drill through from the sides and screw it together but add the 1/2" Dowels for show.
  13. Although I have a Bandsaw for near on a year now Im obviously one of the least experienced here for Bandsaw Milling. Personally Id not want to be trying to cant a log over and somehow sliding a plank under at the same time every other pass. Maybe easier for those lucky buggers with hydraulics though?
  14. Thats a lot of hard work and time wasted. Imagine having to lift the log to slide a feather edge plank under? Although I like your thinking and could be handy if I ever need to knock a few out for home use but on a semi-large scale the broken back and tame wasted you'd be better off just buying a new one Id have thought?
  15. Nah, just a vid I found quickly with a google search.
  16. As Rough Mentioned a Chainsaw and a Mini-Mill worked for me in the past. Its a few minuted in ion the vid. Bandsaws can knock out 6" posts which Ive done for my Daughters bed, maybe there is someone local to you on here that would help out?
  17. Lovely! What dimensions are they? What did you use to round off the edges?
  18. That was really cool! Forget 0.43 1.13 is where I get engaged.
  19. Yeh same here. Never got into Punk or Ska. Not sure why? If I get a few hours to myself in the evenings these days (got a 20 moth old and a 4 month old, plus a 16 year old and a 18 year old. ? ) I put on the 80's Music channels. Weirdly 80's anthems moves me more than I'd ever guess. Even the big 'Cats' hits and Top Gun Hits, nostalgia I guess? Very weird. Does Greenday count as Punk? (joke) Not a huge fan of metal. If 'Nu-Metal' counts then Staid are one of my favorites. Mix of Country and Rock. Not into jazz much, but had a blast in New Orleans in the Jazz bars listening to Dueling Pianos. Not a huge amount of time for classical to be fair. Although when I hear it it grows on me each time in increasing intensity. The Waterboys are my number one band though. Been following them since I was a kid. Even went to Findhorn as a kid when Mike Scot was there. Went to Norway and Ireland to see the Waterboys play. Best Band Ever.
  20. Stunning! Im not sure if my eyes would be drawn to the licking flames or the beautiful grain on the Beam. Hows the Sapwood holding up?
  21. Im sure Ive been offered 20-25" clean Birch but have no space for it. No sign of rot in the butts. Maybe it appears further up?
  22. I never seen any furniture made from Birch during the 5 years I lived in Norway. Its always considered a firewood there. Oddly when I came to buy a Baby Crib (not the MTV kind [emoji3] ) we got a rocking one made out of solid Birch! Reduced to clear, £25 delivered! You could not buy the materials for that. Stunning kitchen! I’d love to have the skills to make something like that one day.
  23. KoL used to come to T in the Park every summer. Must have seen then about 5 times now. Since Youth and Young manhood when all my mates thought they where weird. Walls is ok but Mechanical Bull was really a good album. Beautiful war and temple are me and my brothers favorite songs on that album. Between KoL and Mumford and Sons we down a few bottle of whisky when we meet up.
  24. That has to be the conundrum does it not? Leave bringing out a new model so late in the season not allowing reviews to be carried out stopping potential purchases based on reviews.
  25. Fair enough. I quite fancy a trip to the Deep south, take in Nashville etc etc. Would have to take in a trip to see Kings of Leon though.
