  1. They dont have much of an economy but I agree, they've protected what little they do have. To think Sweden turned Norway down for a deal where Norway would get a stake in Volvo and Sweden would get a stake in their North Sea Oil.
  2. Interesting. Been hoping to buy a road tow processor for a while now.
  3. Just so you know Leslie has me on block so he's only seeing half the messages. Theres a good chance he thinks you're replying solely to him (perhaps you are? ) Regardless its best to use the quote function so everyone knows who you're replying to.
  4. Have you done any porting/mods to the Makita?
  5. I always double check my depth after setting the Alaskan up for a cut. So run the bar in a few mill and measure whats left above the kerf. I do this with my bandsaw as well. But as I have a 1", 1.5" 1.75" and 2" Scale I do it less and less now, but odd ball sizes or 3/4" its good to double check. I have had various Planers but just now only have an 8" but will be taking delivery of a 12" soon. So anything wider than this has been hand planed till kinda in shape then belt sanded and finally random orbital. Horrid process. Ive now set up the Router Sled another member had built for me and can flatten 50" wide Slabs I believe. Weatherboarding is normally about 19mm I believe? (I mill mine at a true 1") So keep in mind that for each 19mm board you mill with a chainsaw you're converting almost 8.5mm to sawdust each time. Ok if you have a load of logs, very wasteful you're milling just one log. On a bandsaw the kerf is around 3mm. That Oak if 7m long and the full 50cm diameter is still only about 1.5t. So maybe £150 worth? So not the end of the world if it goes a bit Pear shaped. Personally Id try not to maximise what you can get out of it and try to cover all eventualities for its uses. Id mill it the standard 2" or 2 1/4" even 2.5" and come back to it in a few years. I mill more and more at 2.5" because my kerf is only 1/8" I can re-saw the slabs and still have nice 1" boards for a project. If you have family there is no end to what you can make. If you can hunt down some more oak.
  6. Nice work. Its always so exciting when you Mill your first few logs. Its a feeling thats not deminished with me over the last 4 years that Ive been Milling. I note you're doing a lot of skinny boards but seem to be planning on using them for benches etc? Might be worth keeping in mind that as you're cutting through and through the image below is what you'll end up with even when stickered and weighted down (to some degree) Cutting the thicknesses you have you'll end up with quite a lot of sub 1" boards after flattening. OK for some applications in the house but outside? Not so much. Unless you're specifically looking for 1" boards Id be looking to mill 2" and above. Even a well stickered and weighted 3" Oak Slab that I,m flattening now had 1/2" cup and bow each side over the 90cm width. So thats obviously now a 2" Slab. And a 3" Slab is clearly gonna be much more stable than through and through sawn 1.5" Slab.
  7. Fixed that for you.
  8. Built a bit tougher in Aberdeen than The Heads of the Valleys I'll assume. Being the 'Top Chippy' that you often claim to be Leslie its surprising how you've yet to post a single project you've built yourself other than a plank of wood you where sanding. Oh, and the images you ripped off the internet and claimed where yours.
  9. Will do. Pentland Livestock Limited WWW.PENTLANDLIVESTOCK.CO.UK Pentland Livestock Limited specialises in all aspects of the livestock trade, from working with farmers on a daily basis to... Maybe worth signing up to their news letters? I think the auctions are all on-line just now, but even when they are back up and running with folk actually turning up you can place a proxy bid anyway.
  10. Its all such a farce.
  11. If I was gonna be cutting tenons on a Bandsaw I agree with Woodworks and Id be looking for an old Cast Iron one from the auctions. They are always at my local auction, which to be honest has folk coming all the way from Inverness to attend. Have you tried cutting them on your Woodland? Its a bit of a faf but I cut the tenons for my 8" beams for my log deck on my Mill and it worked well. The shorter pieces where tricky but I used two scaff boards to house them as they where shorter than the bunks and I used a set of Vice Grips to set up a stop so the cut was the same length each time. I did all the cheeks at one depth as it was just a Log Deck but where I to do them properly I think Id cut all the cheeks at one depth then readjust the height and do the shallower cuts after. Unless you're planning on doing tenons on a regular basis its a lot of money to spend. I bought this Metabo Bandsaw in the package I bought from London. As the reviews where good and it had a fence etc I gave my old one to a friend. I wish I never now as this Metabo is quite crap and under powered. As others have said, it struggles with 2x4". 2" dried Oak seems to make it struggle to the point of stopping and having to back back out the cut a fraction. And thats with a brand new blade. http://www.tools-warehouse.co.uk/METABO-BAS-317-BANDSAW-PRECISION-PACKAGE-240-VOL/product/TB2740/19019750/
  12. Im paying £65 a ton for Milling Grade Larch just now. No vat and delivered at 5t at time. Even placed on my log deck for that. Ive seen Arctic Loads for £75 though.
  13. Its just madness, it really is. But the majority are lapping it up like soup. Its worrying how many are so blinkered and fail to see the bigger picture here. All they can think about is 'keeping safe'. The powers that be must be laughing their arses off at us. Next time around we'll be that much easily cowed and we'll welcome the draconian measures with open arms.
  14. Im sure you'll fab something up no bother. I'll get you some close up's when Im home next. The rubber wheels securing bolt is secured in a slot thats also at about a 45 degree angle. So you can enter the bolt into the slot and then bring the rubber wheel up snug to the bar it rides along then tighten in place. Im still in quarantine yes. Will be free on Friday night. Was gonna get the second Swab Test done tomorrow but my boss said forget it as Equinor wont allow anyone to travel under the 10 days quarantine regardless if they have two good tests. So Ive just gotta wait it out. Weather picking up then? We've had a few cracking days this week and the next couple are still looking good here. Must drive some of the lads crazy being in port and canny get off the boat and grab a beer.
  15. Im not home just now. The Red arrow is the regular wheels the head rolls on. The green arrow is the rubber wheels that 'clamp' the saw head to the tracks. You can see the angled bar the rubber wheels roll along hopefully?
  16. Bed time for me too.
  17. Barefoot literally keeps you on your toes. And if it does not, well, it certainly wont a second time. Maybe flipflops are are actually the future? Certainly explains why they are so commonplace in the far East.
  18. I certainly dont, but Id sooner have them than not. And I dont allow them to give me an false sense of security either. But neither would I advocate having zero PPE based on the fact having some protection can give you a certain sense of bravado.
  19. Its coming. A global government is coming if we like it or not. Giving up any sense of national identity has to be one of the first traits to go. Only once national identity is erased can we truly move towards a global society. How do you eradicate national or more specifically a community identity? An uncontrolled and unwanted mass migration. Such is the force these days we cannot even question the influx of illegal immigration without being branded a racist. We just have to accept it unquestioningly and maybe have a wee grumble with those we are closest to knowing that such thoughts will go no further. As Mark Renton put it; It's a SHITE state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any ****************ing difference.:D
  20. I think you've made a career out of doing just so.
  21. What about India, China or Pakistan? Cherry picking the lest advance 3rd world countries is akin to putting your fingers in your ears and screaming 'la la la'. Clearly you know its happening so you chose three of the lowest polluters to try and prove some point. But all you've proven is the exception proves the rule.
  22. The thing is we dont need to in the West. Our demographics is ever shrinking. Its absolutely futile even mentioning it though. It will be laughed off till its obviously to late.
  23. Im very sensitive sweet cheeks. Now tell Daddy some more about that Beast of a Saw you inherited Big Boy.
  24. To promote compliance? To break down national identity? To eradicate the cohesion of a close, local society. If there is no longer any race and we're all 'brown' then finally the world leaders will get their obedient slaves and finally gain a world government. Its happening and its expediting an an astonishing rate. Its not something we can possibly win. Its one of the reasons I'll keep receding into the heartlands of the Scottish highlands that I grew up with. Its a very slow tiptoe though. To argue the toss you're as well arguing with Frogs placed in warm water who slowly get boiled to death.
  25. Dont ask for advice and then slap the face of those offering it a few minutes later.
