  1. HP - you own it (you get the V5), 100% AIA allowance. You pay all the VAT up front and then a monthly with or without a balloon. All expenses are vat re-claimable. You may have to pay personal tax for private use. Contract Hire - you dont own it, you can claim 100% of the monthly against profits and 100% of the VAT if no private use otherwise 50% VAT Lease - similar to HP but you dont get it on the books or pay all the VAT upfront. The long and the short of it is, if you think you will look after it and sell it on for above trade in price in 3/4/5 years, you have enough dollar up front for 10% and all the VAT then HP is good road. If you dont have the up front dollar then contract hire gets you in a motor cheap but they will crawl over it at the end of term and if you have banjo'd it expect bills. As long as you VAT registered either way isnt a problem as you reclaim it, if your turnover is below the VAT threshold then you will be looking at contract hire anyway i would guess.
  2. hire a digger with one for the day, same price and makes life 100x easier
  3. would have required planning at the time for 3m. So may be in place already, check. Ask the fence manufacturer if it can be increased in height, maybe you need deeper footing etc. There are no standards police so you can safely ignore that nonsense.
  4. cut it down, pay the fine if any.
  5. who's going to stop me ?
  6. if your doing 100 a day then you are losing £5 a day!
  7. iveco daily, proper trucks !
  8. you only get 45p a mile this includes wear and tear as far as the taxman is concerned. Should your employer offer to say pay your tyres or MOT/repairs etc then they can claim the vat back on it and you will have to pay benefit in kind tax on the amount as well. Far cheaper for you, and them really, to provide you with the vehicle rather than them to try and do it on the cheap. Or they could give you cash for your troubles and the world will still spin
  9. We only use our saw on site for joist / wall plate chopping and other minor bricky carpentry, means having to carry 2 stroke just for the saw. All our other plant runs on red. We replaced our still cutting saw last year for a mains electric as we all got fed up with the hassle of starting it when it doesnt want to, the noise etc. Anyone tried this, is it any good ? We do have plenty of dewalt kit so could use the big battery in our nail guns etc. I see stihl do an electric saw and disc cutter as well, the cutter being a bit smaller. Whats the forums collective wisdom on which is best battery saw ? thanks! DEWALT UNITED KINGDOM | DEWALT UNITED KINGDOM |

surprised thry gave you so much for that knacker!!
  12. As a builder we see this new build house tax now and again. Currently your only penalised if you build in the countryside, towns are zero rated. Just goes on the bottom line for the poor sap buying the house to pay more. And we wonder why houses are so expensive. Of course the councils dont spend it on useful things like schools and doctors surgeries, they blow it on crap no one really needs or would be willing to pay for themselves. I suspect if the first time buyer had a choice of giving £40/m2 to the local council to waste or save it so they could afford a sofa we all know the answer!
  13. that looks a good step forward to the normal one where you have to manhandle the log onto a platform.

Good point Bob, the merc is at the extreme end. Remember though that its really a 7.5 tonner and is designed to pull the weight. A fifth of the load or 3 ton would be put on the firth wheel hitch putting it at the top end of its 5 ton axle weight, this seems to be the norm for this setup.

Not as good as the Daily, less train weight, heavier chassis. Also weights 4 ton bare so cant be downplated. http://www.isuzutruck.co.uk/downloads/Euro_VI_Forward_N65-150-0115.pdf The other jap offerings not worth bothering with, very low train weights.

agree it would be tight, just doable to keep under 3.5ton remember to ignore nose weight all that counts is bare tractor. A daily at 10.5 ton GTW will be plenty for me as I only need the extra to haul the digger, but if I was a boat mover, car hauler or maybe the best of all if you are working in the $hit hole that is London and are hit by the LEZ tax, this route may save you a small fortune. Anything over 3.5 tons is £200 per DAY if your not compliant. The merc is of course not over 3.5 tons, is LEZ compliant and can haul 16 odd tons.

    the 3.5ton has a train of 6.3ton http://ibb.iveco.com/Commercial%20Sheets/UK%20and%20Ireland%2FUK%2FDAILY%20MY%202014%2FChassis%20Cab%2fN.Daily%20%202014%2035S%2014%20CNG%20C%20Cab%20.pdf the 7.2 ton has a train of 10.5/7 http://ibb.iveco.com/Commercial%20Sheets/UK%20and%20Ireland%2FUK%2FDAILY%20MY%202014%2FChassis%20Cab%2fN.Daily%20%202014%2072C%2015-17%20-21%20(HIMATIC)%20C%20Cab.pdf unladen booth just over 2ton

Not sure, but I would think no more than 3ton for the chassis. http://tools.mercedes-benz.co.uk/current/trucks/specification-sheets/atego/atego-4x2-rigid-816-824.pdf
  20. adblue aka pig pi$$. Even the £70k disco's have this now unfortunately.

Again no, where you getting this 'adding the weight' from ? Please link up to the regs on that. I've already said multiple times axle limits should must be observed. The GTW for the downplated daily is 10.5 ton or 10.8 for the auto not 7 as you suggest, not sure where you are getting that from, more than enough for 5-6 ton of cargo. Also you seem to have an issue with 'drawbars' whats that about ? Again link up the regs. The vehicle remains 3.5 ton irrespective of how much weight is on the trailer. I think I've repeated this enough now

you need to re-read the B+E licence again. there are NO weight limits for trailer on pre97 licence. This is a 3.5tonner vehicle full stop. You are getting confused and adding the trailer weight to arrive at a 7.5ton vehicle which it isnt. Please see above. All the iveco's from 3.5-7.2 ton have the same 6 ton rear axle rating (twin wheeler of course), you can read it on the website.

thats certainly an interesting bit of kit! I'm going to order new though I think as it will be a keeper.

Your confusing train weight. Once a trailer is hooked up you go on train weight + axle weights. The rear axle on a daily is 6 tons so plenty. Restricted O licence inst an issue. Tacho exempt. As long as I can get our 5 ton digger + buckets on a low loader trailer I'll be happy. Should be easy enough 10.5ton train weight on a daily.
  25. 8.25 is all a post jan 97 licence holder can legally tow. This is probably built with that in mind.
