I don't think so, lets put aside the O and tacho as they really don't matter, BE doesn't qualify the max towing weight just train weight as you say. there are lots of fifth wheelers and boat movers using the min artic route on BE. The math does work and you need an old style licence with grandfather rights. When the law changed people kept what they had and were not made illegal overnight. if you have a 3.5 tonner with a plated train of 10.5 tons you can tug 7 tons as long as the trailer is type 3 approved with air brakes/mot etc on a BE grandfather car licence. You must also ensure the axle weights are observed so the trailer needs to be designed with this is mind. I admit this is a large quirk in the rules but does open up possibilities. I'm having a chat with a chap who unlike us both isn't talking theory he owns and drives this setup with vosa approval. This appeals to the large caravan types who otherwise would need a medical to tug this sort of weight. As your in the game maybe worth you getting an opinion from VOSA ?

yes BE pre 2013 seems the way to go as you are right no weight limit on the trailer just Train weight. So the down plate route to avoid any O licence and tacho issues. on a daily the trainweight is 10.5 tons. Downlpate a 6 tonner crew with hiab abd it will be very close to 3 leaving 7ish tons for trailer. All legal! Good read on this thread from a chap vwalan What vehicle to toe 5 tonne? Discussion Printer Version - UKCampsite.co.uk Forums What can possibly go wrong!

still says Category C1E You can drive C1 category vehicles with a trailer over 750kg. The combined MAM of both can’t exceed 12,000kg. Anyway that's all a bit of a red herring. 12 ton is plenty in practice. Be interested to your opinion on what you think the max possible weight that can be pulled by a 4 tonner by a driver with a full C1E. tacho not needed for us builders (own goods, less thank 100 from base etc) and restricted O inst much pain either, just a paperwork exercise. The more I think about it the more this makes sense. Assuming around 3-4 ton for the double cab + hiab + tool boxes (would have to be train MAM of 12 ton to be legal but dont see this as a problem for a daily) etc leaves 8 ton for trailer. I would have a cut down plant trailer (low loader type) to move the 5 ton digger and another tipper normal height for general use. Would be very very nice to have 5-6 ton legal carry on the tipper and have a hiab and a crew cab to boot. As your in the trailer trainer game by the looks, I bet there a quite a lot of firms like mine who would use a firm like yours to get the C1E, maybe do a page on your website explaining whats possible as I think you would get loads of work from it. oh just to add more confusion it seems you can downplate a 7.2ton to 3.5 BUT it retains its original train weight.
  4. not local to you, structural engineer is what you need. they can do the soil sample tests etc for loading.

can be done, they are not plated until registered so any body place could do it in theory. order new double cab chassis and have the spare chassis lobbed off and a hitch mounted behind the hiab. be cheaper and easier than having a tipping body made. I suspect they are not done as its a 'gap' in the market. Very attractive being able to move a 5 ton digger legally on a car licence.

So planning our next truck. Ideally we need 5 ton capacity to stay legal. This rules out all the 7.5 tonners in reality once kit, fuel and blokes are loaded. So was thinking, us old gits with C1E can drive a combined van and trailer train weight of 12 tons. https://www.gov.uk/old-driving-licence-categories something like a daily or isuzu double cab with a big hiab fitted behind cab (2 ton lift at 7m) short chassis with artic hitch. weighing in at say 4.5 ton unladen. Then a tipping trailer with air brakes etc naked weight say 2.5 ton. leaving a payload of 5 ton. This gets around the o licence, operators yard and tacho requirements. Would also open up the flexibility of moving 5 ton diggers which are not much more money than the 3 tonners for a whole lot more digger. Thoughts ? just to add you need to sit the trailer test to get 12 tons, its 8.2 with grandfather rights.
  9. Titan TTB280DRH 15.5kg Hex Shank Breaker 230V | Breakers & Demolition | Screwfix.com you wont get better for the money. Ours has had loads of abuse and still going strong.
  10. commercial loans are expensive, you will pay a lot of fees (£10k is normal) have a crap APR expect double residential and have onerous terms. You will need to have 30% cash and loose cash of another £15k for the fees/legals. You will more than likely better off raising a BTL on your home and cash purchase the commercial. If a BTL + your ready cash (£30k deposit min on £100k purchase)still isnt enough to outright purchase the land then save up more.
  11. amorak cant pull 3.5ton unfortunately.
  12. We use clearbooks, it does all the bank integration stuff and more importantly CIS and VAT online. cheap as well.
  13. not all land is registered with land registry (30% of England not registered)as the Land Registry is a new invention and only when land changes hands post its inception will it be registered.
  14. want to borrow my terriers ? As you've been prevented from working get in touch with the client and ask him when you can finish. His problem not yours
  15. the Tak 230 is very similar if not quite as good in terms of dump and depth as the 71. I think it will boil down to the dealer and support in the end. Anyone recommend a tac/kabuto/bobcat dealer in worcestershire ?
  16. the cats are very innovative for sure. They use kubota engines right ? The extendable arm does look usefull for loading 8 wheelers which are a struggle to reach.
  17. Looking to add a smaller 3 tonner to the 5 tonner we have already. Looking at the specs the 71-3 beats all the other 3 tonners in terms of dig force, reach and dump height. How do owners rate them, we've had a couple on hire last 12 months but not had them on site long enough to form an owners opinion. thanks
  18. stumbled across this [ame= ] [/ame] as peckers can be had for reasonable money seems a corker of an idea. Saves buying specialist kit.
  19. Definitely get specialist advise BEFORE talking to the council. If I was you I'd just crack on and see what happens. If your not putting up buildings I cant see you having any issues at all. Drop £1000 on a specialist ag planner, not just a run of the mill planner. Ring up a couple local builders and ask them who they use.
  20. devastating. I hope the insurance sorts you out. Keep an eye out on the used sites in ireland. We all know the caravan type who move this type of kit. Lot of it is going to ireland to avoid UK checks. When my mucktruck was stolen off site (white transit of the type used by the caravan lot spotted) I signed up for search results and it popped on ebay ireland. It had an easily recognisable feature which made spotting it easy. Plod wasnt interested as it was in another country. Too much like hard work for them. https://www.gumtree.ie/ https://www.ebay.ie
  21. that looks like a single rear wheel ? Definitely not up to it if it is.
  22. just to add iveco do a 7.2 tonner as well. does mean tacho for you tree boys though.

  24. get the laser level out and ask him to check the levels and fall. Explain your sure the lines were set right before you left so cant see what has gone wrong and it needs to be redone. If at this point he don't fess up feel free to crack on with a good bollocking per previous replies. In my experience starting out all guns blazing (even when you know your in the right)leaves both nowhere to go but row as it gets the blood up, so if its someone you want to try and make a bit bitter for your next job bear it in mind if not slap him silly.
