  1. get the laser level out and ask him to check the levels and fall. Explain your sure the lines were set right before you left so cant see what has gone wrong and it needs to be redone. If at this point he don't fess up feel free to crack on with a good bollocking per previous replies. In my experience starting out all guns blazing (even when you know your in the right)leaves both nowhere to go but row as it gets the blood up, so if its someone you want to try and make a bit bitter for your next job bear it in mind if not slap him silly.
  2. They should have dropped the trees PRIOR to submitting the application. If you chop them down what the council going to do Make you plant them again ? They haven't got time to monitor Persimmons and Wimpy building houses made from easter egg boxes so a bloody tree sure aint going to be top of the list!
  3. guys, why don't you build a kiln out of brick ? Could line it with fireproof ones if you really wanted. Make the entrance large enough so you can get a pallet in it with a forklift to make life easy. Maybe use a pallet cage to stack the wood in, burn it then fork it back out full of charcoal and bang another one in. All that metal work sounds expensive and hard work to me.
  4. just to add. in building trade chippies probably have the most kit van full of it and are the cheapest trade, around same day rate as a good bricky. Most expensive are plumbers, failed plumbers or sparkies as they are known by are somewhere in the middle. Saying that we pay upto 50% more day rate for a reliable worker who does good work fast. Not many of them about though really, most subbies are bare min. Also known to drop a couple grand christmas bonus to a subbie who done good for the firm over the year. The hardest kit to find is a good realiable subbie. Oh and no cash of course all CIS!!!!
  5. have a look at a iveco daily. They are proper trucks with a ladder chassis.
  6. I give you Terence Trent D'arby! [ame= ] [/ame]
  7. english pine only. building regs demand it.

    Developers ?!?!

diggers 'accidentally' damage them etc. It's all just part of doing business in the property game. Worst case is a 5 figure fine, usually nowhere near that if any. I've know it happen several times in the locale and once the normal bull$**** is trotted out, accident/miscommunication etc promise to replant (never bother as they dont check) you pay up add the cost to the build and carry on. Give you another example. An acre plot that will get planning for a pair of semi's. First job before submitting an application - level it, take down every tree, bush and shrub. That way no planning conditions can be added to retain xyz tree/shrub/hedge which they almost certainly would do if you left them there especially mature trees. I could regale loads of stories on the planning loopholes ......

    Developers ?!?!

from a developer point of view, I would chop them down and pay the fine should one be levied. It's the norm and to be expected, just how the council has to be dealt with in the real world. Not saying its right or wrong but in the real world houses are more important than a tree.
  10. just to add, to help with budgeting you can opt to do VAT monthly to stop a big bill building up. This is normal for us in house building as they allways owe us so we all do monthly.
  11. Hi Folks Whats the deal with driving and towing with a mog, what licence is required ? Assume not for hire or reward just moving our own kit from A to B. How big a trailer can it pull both on paper and real life ? thanks donnk

although this one has well over a ton payload as built, if I was in your game I would go for the 7.2 ton (exactly same truck chassis) as you will have close to a 5 ton payload and no O licence/tacho paperwork to worry about. Also the running costs of a 3.5. All in all very happy with it!

nope. its not registered until both crane and body are on as they both have to go on the v5.

    New Tipper

perhaps reading not your strong point. you can see the mass is 2079. well over a ton payload.

the tipper body is aluminium which saves a fair bit. Don't forget this is same chassis as the 7.2ton daily.

transits just not man enough to pull a max load 3500kg trailer. Borrowed a mates once and it was frightening. 7000kg train weight on the daily. I would definitely go for at least the 170 horse if you towing a digger. Can't praise the auto box enough as well, all the tesco home delivery dailys come with them as standard as its cheaper in the long run than replacing clutches dealer told me with all the stop starting, not to mention easier on the driver.

fair few quid! good job its all writeoffable against the tax. It's 35C17 with euro5 so none of that add blue crap. free servicing for 3 years. 25k miles between services officially, ill stick at every 12 months though. I got rid of our old 02 daily tipper and to be honest it was a great workhouse, thousands of tons tipped on it. Cant beat iveco's for carrying really, class of their own as they are designed to be trucks not vans that have been adapted. Also 24x7 warranty is nice to have as they are geared up for supporting lorries round the clock. digger is up for swopping next year, i quite like the kx71-3 ones we had on hire have been great.

    New Tipper

My new daily tipper has finally arrived! Now for the long list of mods that need doing, adding tool boxes (behind crane hence the space), airbag suspension, sliding headboard etc. The crane is great 2ton lift on shortest just under a ton full stretch (lifts a jumbo bag full stretch). Can legally carry 1.5ton and has a train weight of 7000kg so no worries pulling the 3 ton digger. Has an uprated 8ton ram as the last one I had struggled when there was 3 ton of wet type 1 on the back. Have to say the ZF 8 speed auto box is brilliant, with 170 horses under the bonnet she has plenty of go in her. Does seem odd sitting at 70 and just under 1300 rpm. Im not impressed with the build quality of the tipper body to be honest, couple of the welds are already showing rust. Good job its being given a coat of epoxy mastic 121.
  21. agree to do 33. Then do 45 anyway. Who is going to check it ? It's the way you have to work with the planning system.
  22. iveco daily 7.2 downrated.
  23. forget all that you need a heat pump. Ground source more efficient if you have the land otherwise air source either driving under floor heating.
  24. small claims is easy really. Should the chancer be stupid enough to do this, the client can show the recorder (they don't have judges usually) the evidence of why the job was crap. The chancer then puts his side. Judge decides. Before and after photo's useful. Was there a written contract with the chancer ? doesn't really matter but helps. Could always sue the chancer for costs of fixing that should shut him up. Easily done online.
  25. use the feature where they will deliver it to your local argos store. Saves having to wait around.
