  1. Best to ..leave it untouched.. and take it back is still my advice .
  2. If you are not familiar with saws then leave it and take it back to the place you bought it. I should point out..... A dealer will want a saw back "untouched " to put something right .
  3. This would be my choice for what you say your needs are....it is more saw than you would think for the money and spec. The ps 32 will do the job as well just a little less HP.
  4. Aye there is a sort of plastic tube that pushes on over the h and l screws. What s it for? Not that bit Bill..thats just the screwdriver guide when adjusting the carb through the top cover. Im talking about the 2 long screws that hold the carb to the intake block. The improved ones had a thermal cover on them to help with the situation of heat trans causing some starting issues when hot.
  5. A thought....If your predominantly getting the issue when the saw is hot or on the way down from hot ....has your saw got the carb screws with the plastic looking tube round them ? it was a Husq fix for heat trans from the cylinder into the carb mount and carb its self.
  6. Search for ....Mityvac MV 8500 ...that should help you find it on ebay.
  7. 50.1 synthetic oil "only" or Aspen and then....If you have a TACH set the idle at 2500-2600 when warm/hot with the L" (low running needle) side on the carb ...ie slow the motor a tinny bit at idle with a little more fuel rather than just backing down the idle screw. The ps 420 tends to idle fine around 2500-2600 rather than 2800 ..then when the motor really gets hot you tend not to get a significant lift in rpm. The Zama carb is fairly sensitive so take note of your baseline positions before you start.
  8. Something to be sure of....Check to see if the worm drive driven by the clutch and the drive on the pump spindle is ok and actually being turned .
  9. I personally have a dislike for the programs that spawned the "celeb culture" along with these "Celebs". Low brow tv ,magazines and social media have enabled the "celeb" to exist , often having "NO" discernible talent other than being in the media spotlight. I can only comment directly about some that have cropped up to sully the programs that have made it past "Personal" quality control . The Numpty's from "Made in Chelsea" made it past the radar by "shmoooosing" themselves onto a prog sometimes partaken of if nothing more interesting shows up . Hopefully , not again.
  10. As Bill says ...its a touch and release stop leaver Steve. You don't even need to hold the leaver down while the saw stops...just a flick down and the engine kills. The lock is just as it looks...to lock the saw against starting when you really don't want it to as the saws MPI coil stores a charge of electricity that will make the saw fire without much rotation of the motor.
  11. You may consider the following......More than likely with the 026 its ether "fuel pooling" at idle from the L jet ...or the L jet is to lean . Its common on both accounts with the 026...260 . Pooling is the more likely cause and will cause a hard start if it stops as its like a micro flood out. The carb settings ..Can.. be small amounts to get it right.

  13. A few things running about in my mind ... What was the thinking in developing a fuel that was going to be so much more expensive than what is already being used? ...not just a bit, but multiples more expensive. Small volume domestic users may not have so much concern ...pro users may. Companies dont set out to lose money on something ....There must be a thought through reason with the price difference . I know both Husqvarna and Dolmar put Aspen in there product catalogue and Stihl have there Motor Mix. There is a recommendation from all 3 to use these products thus giving some "industry" endorsement . Also...Manufacturers do like constants. They would much rather the fuel that went into there product was "accurate" in its content for there warrantee liabilities. The current 2 cycle motors are becoming much more stringent on the amount of fuel going through them so perhaps it is helpful for manufacturers to have a product that they could endorse.
  14. What is the "official" Aspen line on usage of the Asp 2 if its from a opened container . A general point of ref for age would be good as i guess there is a latitude for safety on the oil content being affected regardless of if the fuel looses some freshness .
  15. This thing about a bulk supply could also be looked at in the following context.... In most folks mind "bulk" = a cheeper price. Aspen will never be the "same as pump fuel " and I doubt it will ever be close to the price we have come used to paying for unleaded fuel. Pump fuel just exists in the pump form due to the amount used ,the method of transport and the storage conditions the retailer can give it. Many things are sold in container form and the bulk supply just comes down to buying the biggest container or number of containers you can to gain a discount. Who buys wine by the vat after all....the producer bottles it and we get a case or more than 1 case to gain a discount....Normal practice with manny manny things. This price situation with Aspen is going to be a grumble regardless of a "Bulk" supply. 200ltr drum seems like a decent "Bulk" container to me ! Those who use Aspen are still using it.. "regardless" ..of its higher price and will have there own reasons for doing so, be they commercial or domestic. Like a lot of things , you just can not sell Aspen on price..bulk or otherwise IMO. I dont have strong views on using it one way or another other than using it as a lay-up fuel for machines i know will be sitting for months on end without being refueled or started.
  16. That looks like a high canopy model B to me.... it wont have a grill as its a "Wood Only " stove as you burn on a bed of ash. It has the double burn vents (secondary Burn) in the door tops. Shut down the bottom set once going well and the wood is "Gasifying " then adjust the burn with the top set . The flue damper can be used to damp the draw down ..but ..a smouldering ,low heat fire causes more build up in both stove and flue.
  17. Used the Purge bulb i take it ? you say you ran it out of fuel, so just in case it was overlooked .

  19. The TS 500i must have given them some further "real world " feedback . Perhaps the saw will be like going straight to the second generation even though its the first saw made with a injection motor.
  20. Yea..i figured out that there were two separate comments to your reply after i posted ..sorry . Stihl talk about "optimal amounts of fuel being injected in time with the engines cycle" . No spit back and good fuel metering as a start is no bad thing. Taking away the control of the screwdriver over the carb mix (non M tron of corse) will take out varying tune and with temp and case pressure the hole thing is going to be overall much more fuel efficient at the intake point. They can then work on other clever stuff to keep the output cleaner. High pressure direct injection is so much more complex and would require the saw cost to rise way above what is already not going to be cheep. Its got to be a saw that sells after all . I think getting shot of the carb was the way they wanted to go and turning to a Injector ..direct or not ..is the logical progression.
  21. That is a Makita /Dolmar engine and nothing to do with Stihl. The charge on that engine is controlled by Reeds at the crankcase inlet and then works its way round with ports as well. Its a stratified engine ..."but not as we know it Jim"...It has many still figuring out what the design teem have put into this new engine. Stihl Injection.....bottom end still needs lube so the charge "injected or not" ..will need to go in the bottom i guess .

  23. Take a look at the new design of engines that Makita /Dolmar are now starting to produce. Reed valves into the crank case from the intake amongst other things...(no i dont mean the ps 6100) look for the ps352. This engine is a full modular construction and is more like a car engine ..ie ..it comes out in one bit . Its not a clamshell as it has its own splittable case in 2 halves. The 4 stroke saw was ..Dolmar Ps 550v...not many pics ,but you will find some if you google it. Never made production....Yet !
  24. The 4mix thing will get round the positional situation but as there using a 2 stroke mix...not the solution with emissions. Makita /Dolmar have a True 4 stroke with a system of oil mist lube for the top end and liquid oil in the sump for the crank. I have there Blower with this engine in it ..its good. Honda also have a true 4 stroke with a sump . You can turn the blower into a vac so they have sorted "some" of the position issues out with that one. The valves on the 4 mix and the "true 4 stroke" do need proper service work at the right time , often not addressed . We have got used to not thinking about such things with 2 stroke.
  25. There are interesting things A- foot with Non electronic 2 stroke rethinking from 1 group. Do you remember the 4 stroke saw was developed by Dolmar .
