  1. If you know a reliable source then perhaps 2nd hand is a option. You will get more for your money and will be able to get into the semi or pro small saws from Stihl..Husqvarna..Dolmar..Jonsered..Echo. 40-50cc bracket is usually not a bad place to start. Bit of Quality makes any tool nicer to use I personally think.
  2. That sounds familiar…had a 346 that seemed to be untouched from new the other month. Well, the mod socket and impact wrench worked for me too. Oh..by the look.. or lack ! of needle roller ,Untouched was about right:laugh1:
  3. Its a painful lesson sometimes …been there ,done that ..Quality is cheep in the end i Guess. Hey..enjoy the Husqvarna though
  4. Guess it will be ….Cheeeeeep then:biggrin:
  5. Hope the images have posted as first time iv tried Waiting for the Oregon power mate iv had to order from the US as iv had no luck here. The oil pump drive is used on few of the 200 saws of which the 42 special is one. Its only driven when the clutch is engaged but not in the way most are hence the difficult to get rim sprocket drive..EM original discontinued so i believe.
  6. Only thing I would add to what has been said is …Just go over the process you did when you took the saw apart to put a cord in. Worth checking nothing is /has become out of place. You said that you had been in the carb..did that include a taking any jet needles out ? It seems like fuel as Spud says and the cord snapping incident may just have coincided. I retrace my steps sometimes as a double check. Sorry if that seems obvious , but hey !
  7. Im sure he is eternally grateful ..and still is sitting on them just waiting for the time when folks come in fed up with auto tune and m tronic pleading for a saw to cut wood
  8. What were the symptoms of the "playing up" that got you to this point? Will it start ok ? Bogs and conks out or just stalls instantly?
  9. If its like the one Andrew sold then…yes. Good knick and good compression is a winner !
  10. Till about 2 yrs ago i personally wouldn't have looked at much else than Husqvarna…BUT.. i started working on other makes and have found that there are a lot of good ! saws of all different makes. I still hark back to my 242xp's and 262xp's that i hold as a benchmark for ease of maintenance and shear well thought out design. More recently Husqvarna 350..346xp.. Dolmar 111..115 have been added and now even Stihl 024..Ms 260 and Ms361's sit in my personal workshop. What i believe is there are ok..good ..and excellent saws in most pro saw makers range and it will come down to small things that separate them on a personal basis. Cherry-pick and you won't go far wrong..the good folk on here know what it takes for a saw to be worthwhile considering in pro use…the rest is about what sits well in your hand and the style of power delivery in my humble opinion. Good luck with your choice
  11. A Husq 350 is a decent semi pro saw from per experience.. or a good 024/026 may fit the bill. Spares are easy . Ms 260 if you feel like splashing out .
  12. I recommend a LED Lenser SEO 5 . There are brighter larger LM outputs but it is a well made multi adjustable and zoomable headband torch. Very well made and aimed at the sports/walker market so its not heavy or bulky with the barriers (3xAAA) behind the led chip lamp. All the LED Lensers are worth a look .
  13. Iv done a yr or two of blacksmithing…doing very little now as there isn't the work so iv diversified over the yrs into servicing/repairs or saws,mowers,ect...plus some firewooding.

    Dolmar

With standard muffler holes that size !!! they couldn't even get a probe in . Dolmar are one step ahead there on the testing front

Hi Andrew Joined in the end as decided i needed to join the party :big grin: The 2nd hand trade can only become stronger with all the rules and regs i guess ..seems there are plenty who want to stay clear of the chip carbs. Simon
  19. Iv found a 25% chain oil and 75% rape seed oil mix seems to work V well. Looked into getting anti fling additives to mix my own with no success at all ..closest i could find was 205 ltr drums that were a fortune ! and the company would only sell to the trade.

Would you take a educated guess that EU emission regs will see them dropped maybe ? Be a mighty big shame if we end up losing the simpler saws!!
  21. Have tried the equivalent Windsor chisel chain to Oregon LPX .325 with good results on a 13 " bar and a Husq 242xp. Under 8 squid a loop can't be bad
