Is that the general situation on the Dolmars…Strato = no Cat ?
  2. Can you elaborate on the Rim V spur issue ?
  3. Guess Stihl expect us to take the C clip and clutch off for maintenance all the time..never understood why they don't put a grease hole in the shaft like Husqvarna !!
  4. Ment to put that i bace the ratio around 100 mm and the Golden section of that would be 62 mm or a 1/3- 2/3rd APROX kinda deal. Hope that makes sense
  5. Thought I would lob this one out there and see what you boys make of it. Have you come across "The golden Ratio/section?" Aprox 1 to 1.62 I use it as a bench mark for proportion in any given situation when working out the size something looks right at and it has served me well. Have a look up as its a lot to explain on here. The thing is…iv come to the conclusion some saw engines seem to fit into this ratio as a good place to start…i.e. The size of exhaust V inlet port. One of my fav saws and my first attempt at a mild port was a Husqvarna 254 xp ..it seems to end up at somewhere near the Golden section and ran very strong. 1 other thing..you know the outlet size on a muffler when you mod it …it is close to the section to.( 70% of the size of the cylinders exhaust port.) Im no maths genius so finding a simple ratio has helped me a lot with many things as to proportions ,be it sheds..windows..gates, or messing with saws.
  6. So you effectively ..Plastic Weld .. once you melt it ?
  7. How on earth did you come across that little gem of knowledge !! Amazing the things folks know about.

Oh thats good ! I was looking over the 6000 series and the Tech spec ,but was not to sure without a picture of the components. I believe cat's are used on there saws so maybe the emission regs ( whatever they are ) are met that way . The IPL showed a carb but not how it interfaced with the electronics. Have a few earlier Dolmars so try to keep up with what might come through the door.
  10. Worst part of it is ..You can never be sure that the beggars won't bad mouth you as though its your fault the thing isn't 100 % !! You can only say what you said to him or say "no ta" to the job ..!

Hope this hasn't been properly talked through in the recent past. Have looked into some of the newest Dolmar saws and can see there are some Strato ones with a sort of electronic function to the ignition /fuel system. My question really is by way of comparison with "Auto Tune" and M Tronic" Do the Dolmar carbs give up there manual intervention for adjustment or are they different to the Stihl and Husqvarna saws ..261,362…. 550 560…and so on. Any one have any info please. Simon
  12. And …??? Yup..keep the new one lubricated regular !
  13. How about a step to left field..You can get a very good knick 45-50cc second hand pro saw made by any of the manufacturers mentioned for way under 400. In fact you would have the pic of the bunch with that budget plus some spare change. You wouldn't regret having more saw than you need ,but you may regret having something less than !Just a thought
  14. This might help. Stihl 3/8 chain link count. 20" 72 drive link 25" 84 '' '' 30" 98 " " Figure you would have one of these on your saw.
  15. As has been said..link count. Stihl bar should have that printed on the side if you can make it out.
  16. That looks a Weeeee bit tight to me! think it might be a link or two shorter than supposed to be.
  17. Like my Veg growing ..try to be self sufficient as pos. Like a bit of a stroll with a big view now and again and living in the sticks there is usually plenty that needs doing so the homestead isn't a blooming jungle !!
  18. Bit more background would be useful..Did the saw stop and you changed the coil in the assumption it was at fault? Basically what were the saws issues that led to this.
  19. Ahh..now thats a thought ! I can see the reasoning there. Thanks for the info Simon
  20. Dont suppose you could recollect how Spud reasoned the more oil in fuel = pos leaner running ? Sounds counter intuitive ,but I'm sure there is a reason. Very interested to hear more.
  21. You can pull the lever or press the button in the cab as much as you like ..BUT.. if the hubs are set in "disengaged /off" then the drive won't be transmitted to the front wheels.
  22. Ahh..same with a brava i had.. Ok in snow but not so good on a trailer on a tarmac hill when a little more grip was called for. Thats when permanent 4 comes into its own .Hubs out in 2wd…in in 4wd is about the long and the short. Our friend seems to have not engaged the hubs after putting the Hi Lux in 4 wd.
  23. Be advised ..I believe ..SOME ..4x4s with these hubs don't have a centre diff and you will wind up the transmutation if you drive in 4wheel drive with hubs looked on very grippy ground. Thats why the Landy and others with permanent 4 wd have a centre diff between front and rear axles.
  24. Early Landys and some other 4x4' had a way of disengaging the drive at the front wheel hubs for less Drag when on the road in 2wheel drive . You have to manually turn most of them on each hub or no 4 wheel drive is transmitted when you engage it.
