  1. Ops..My mistake, with you now. Im no climber so not familiar with the subject. :big grin:
  2. You will have to enlighten me on the "STR" initials then.
  3. Thats 3 votes for the 361 then..Its a really smooth running saw .
  4. Just a Quick tune up then ,says You…It was running fine when i put it away " says He" !!!!
  5. Not a hope on the 560xp anyhow Mr TCD as the budget isn't going to go that far. Iv used one and the 550..lovely but il give it another generation on " Auto Tune " before i take the plunge. Another fan of the Ms361 ..noted
  6. Points taken .. Right then..thats 1 vote for the 361 staying .
  7. If you start the saw without the brake on …warm it up..and then stop it. Will it start with the brake "ON" and at idle speed.. ONLY..?
  8. Not a fan of the 024 and Ms 260 then Matty ? Iv only recently started using Sthil and have taken a like to the Ms saws ..361 was hard to come by in good knick at a price i could stump up. Thing is ..the 024 is almost original " Mint" ! and the 260 is fresh as well. Cant see ever finding another one like it ( 024av ) and it has given me a idea how they were when fresh back in the 90s.
  9. Ahh ..well ..115i already in the family, all be it awaiting some work before it gets used in anger. I to have heard that "current +1 calculation "!! it translates into Lots of things in life iv found
  10. Tight times for you Mac..know the way of 'Nill Dosh " only to well . Sorry to hear it.
  11. The PS 420SC and PS 5105 are 2 on the list ..been Itching to get one of the new generation for a while plus would be good to evaluate personally as a saw to recommend or not when I'm asked . Echo CS450..550 are the other saws on the list. Is there such a thing as "A step to far" !
  12. That was kinda where i went with my own thinking ..But..As i don't mind having more than 1 or 2 saws in the same cc class it didn't come down to that logic ether. There all in the Pre M tronic group of well liked saws ..thats how i ended up tracking them down :big grin: Logically the 361 should go as its the most value .. but i can reason why i should get rid of the other 2 in different ways. To much Blooming choice
  13. There a solid old lump..All you need now is a 24 in bar and a big butt to ring
  14. Thing is ..iv got a bad case of the " I Wants" so its a itch thats got to be scratched.
  15. Fancy treating myself to a New ..as in NEW saw. But somethings got to go to put towards it. The question is, What out of the 3 Stihl saws iv got do you think i should part with. Iv got others to chose from in Husq and Dolmar and similar cc sizes so no need to bother about picking on a.. "would be the most useful to have ".. deal, more a..What would you say Tara too out of the 3. All are really up together .. 2008 Ms 260c 2008 Ms 361c Near new late 90s 024 I like them all.. and would much rather keep them but …Hummmm
  16. Another M tronic saw that isn't a common model for evaluation is going to be interesting. Like it or not the "M saws " are here now and if getting a current model, then usage and performance for.. real.. is key.
  17. Seems to be the point of the saw from Stihls description…good when something lives up to expectation I have a Husq 42 special thats had a little engine work for just such a occasion..Hedge trimming mostly. Walking a boundary carrying the saw you don't Arf appreciate light. Weren't tempted to go with the 241m ?
  18. Interesting choice of saw..never had one of those in my hands. Basically the 201 top saw with a conventional handle set up from looking in the catalogue. Often used as a carving set up i believe. The M tronic set up could be different to the bigger saws so will be interesting if yours stays free of glitches.
  19. Is this TFR and boiling water method ( if I have your meaning right Harry C ?? ) used by anyone else ?
  20. As Geoff said…there is only ..1 ..place you can put the ring. The tiny round peg in the groove dictates. As long as the arrow on the top of the piston points to the exhaust port ..usually all is well. If its a new ring and piston you are going to fit then just be sure the cylinder is free of any "high" spots of Aluminium transfer. Think if its a original then its Chromium plated so don't get " Jiggy "with a rotary hone.
  21. PPS..that ring..where is the arrow pointing on the piston top ? The split in the ring isn't facing the exhaust port is it..
  22. PS.. other side covers are available
  23. If you can get a decent piston and ring readily ..and the majority of the saw seems not to have need of work ! then in your shoes I would do it. Think the cylinder is likely to be ok but can't see so can't pass further comment. Usual checks to make sure the bottom end is sound …oh and if you can sort some internals of the muffler out to get shot of some heat build up the new top end will be all the better for it IMO. New carb gaskets (if pos) and carb internals and job should be a good Un.
  24. Part arrived ( new throttle body /choke unit) from Gardenkit today and is now fitted to the trimmer. Success..solid tick over out the pkt after checking with the Tach and running it for a while plus starting from cold again it can now leave the workshop. Thanks to Barrie for his generosity in both time and knowledge in this fix.
