  1. Nowt wrong with a 50 rancher . Much stronger case being mag alloy than the newer semi pro models. Old school Husqvarna solid cylinder to carb mount so no bellows to be bothered about and real easy to work on along with the 100 and 200 series of 1980s-2000 saws. 3 hp is not so bad ..just won't hold the same revs in the cut as the XPs. Should be more than happy on a 15 in (14 in usable length with dogs on ) bar as long as you don't mind slightly more vibes..not that bad really. If its a recoil only then its worth seeing if you like what you have once done.
  2. Will be back with feedback after iv fitted the Part that Barrie generously spent time sorting out for yours truly.
  3. Work from tank filter to fuel line to carb to see if there is fuel getting to the carb before opening the carb up. Make sure there is no splits in the line as you go..simple first. Also background on when and how this has come about would come in handy.
  4. Think you will struggle with the budget to get what could be classed as a "All Rounder" that is up to firewooding and felling unless its some pretty small stuff or you don't mind it taking a age. Second hand maybe.. but thats a can of worms unless you familiar with saws. Only thing I "Personally" would say is..get as much power as you can afford and don't be enticed into "ergo start" or long bars. Both will detract from the budget and give you less of a saw in the end for the money you are talking.
  5. How much do you want to spend? Has it got to be Stihl ? are you capable of maintenance ? These all come into it . Part time user saws can start at 400 and 600 + gets you something V decent. The 181 is not a very powerful saw and isn't built for hard work ..there are plenty of candidates but size of budget is a good place to start perhaps.
  6. Fellow sufferer !! No nap for me though
  7. Its blowing a Hoooly and I'm in fear of the G house ending up in broken glass lumps ..Again !.. after the last blast on Friday just gone. Have also come back from the dentist !! Yup ..after a filling . That help ??
  8. Just been through something V similar with a Husqvarna 254xp..in the end was lucky to find the part number on the old broke band and ordered Genuine from the dealer i use for parts. It didn't match the numbers it was supposed to match for the saw or year. Side cases get swapped so its always ..FUN..not !
  9. Just as a further reference for you..the most common part Number for the band on the steel handle version is 501 82 02-01 ..first few yrs 78..81 were different but most before the change to plastic seem to be that number. You mentioned a band with a split in it..they seems to be on the saws that have the plastic handle and is pt Number 503 57 22-01 .Food for thought.
  10. Hi Roy Is the new side cover one with a steal brake actuation leaver that sits in front of the hoop handle ? if so then its adjustable i believe. The plastic ones are pre set mechanism. There is a Knurled wheel on a thread if its what i have in my mind and there is a set up procedure. You will need to find more on the exact Husqvarna method but that could go some way to answer your issue if the cover you have is all there and functional that is ! Some pics may help to get further . Simon P
  11. Sounds like a plan ..will PM you. Ta
  12. Well Spud. Would you believe iv got 2 Kwaker strummers to do along with this Trimmer ! Same chap ..
  13. Update..Is Walbro genuin carb but it seems to be the one you said had a ball or similar to make it non adjustable after further inspection with a magnifier . Looks like thats that then and a new version carb is on the cards unless there is anything else. Have run it up again after pulling the throttle linkage and taking a look at the tiny little tube in the Venturi… all clean and functioning as before when reassembled.
  14. From what i can tell the K20 is the carb kit with metering jet ,diaphragms and gaskets..D 20 is diaphragms and gaskets only kit. The WYT carb body is another number i believe.
  15. Huston we have a problem.. There appears to be no adjuster at the bottom of the hole. There was no plug material in the hole but iv had a careful scrape and blow only revealing a flat brass bottom to the hole. Carb has 5A 248 on the body and thats about it. It could be after market i suppose but it isn't recent for sure. The screw on the throttle pall is fully extended in a attempt to keep the motor running by previous intervention .
  16. Yup.. a WYJ carb is what iv come up with..Blooming Thousands of them !! That is a sneaky place to put a jet screw Thanks A lot for the heads up , will let you know what i find. Simon
  17. Hope that gives you some idea of the machine.
  18. Will take one and post it on here tomorrow .
  19. :biggrin:I new what you meant .. It just struck me as funny that a saw (ms 260) that was still current in2009- 2010 ish could now be classed as old . The Ms 260 and 361 have now become favorites of mine after always having Husq and Dollmar out of choice.
  20. Anyone familiar with the Kawasaki TH-23 hedge trimmer per chance (90s one i think). It has one of those primmer bulb carbs with no adjustments other than a screw to move the throttle pall. It seems to be some sort of injection carb on the choke side. Its basically erratic at tick over and will conk out if not picked up on the trigger within about 10 …..30 seconds from coming off the throttle ..(runs fine other than that). Have had the carb apart and seemed ok but went through a clean and a metering needle inspection plus strainer . Diaphragms look ok (not replaced so far) and the fuel line and return is good plus the tank isn't air locking out. Oh ..it won't start on tick over when warm but fires up fine on choke and then will run till you put it down and leave it to idle. Not wanting to jump in and source a new carb just yet but with out a Low running side to adjust I'm a bit stumped. Thanks Simon
  21. Out of interest and if you font mind saying..what have you been using while the 362 has been giving you all this grief . Have you still got some non electronic carb saws that you find mostly reliable. Iv gone as far as the ms 361 but stayed clear of m tronic for now. Simon
  22. How about a 024, 026 ? bit cheeper than the MS 260 and still (no pun intended) grand saws in there own rite.
  23. MS 260 ..OLD !! Ha.. Only just discovered i like um in the last yr or two. Husq 200 , a plenty here and V partial to a 254 xp and the 42 special is a little corker if ….worked over
  24. Been a Weee while since iv been called a "Whippersnapper" !! :big grin: Im Simon by the way …should have said sooner. Anyhow, i will keep a eye on you lot as I'm a "Whippersnapper"
