  1. Your Avatar just puts it about right for me..Like that
  2. Hi Mick Im a real latecomer to the Internet and mobile phones .Got my 1st computer 3 yrs ago and had a mobile since 2010 . Near 50 yrs old and i still do everything on a daybook with a pen. To be honest I'm keeping it all very low key and could easily revert. Would rather keep the TV though ! Simon
  3. The 300 series Husqvarna's are not a bad compromise with anti vibe and less hassle to keep in good running order than some newer ones iv found..as long as the carb to cylinder upgrade has been done. A 351 is not common but is the mag /alloy cace rather than the plastic one on the 350…although the 350 is not a dog by any means. Its not a clamshell due to having a alloy base that the cylinder bolts to . I have a soft spot for late 200 series Husqvarna, 254 and 262 are in the arsenal.Have a Dolmar 109 and a 115i…thats a brill saw at 3.75hp and 52cc..light and short boded, cock on with 15 inch bar. Currently the two saws i tend to pick up to use are a Ms 260 and Ms 361. The Ms 260 has grown on me and the Ms 361 is bit of a revaluation for me. Caused me to look much closer at Stihl saws in the 2002-2011 age with the old carbs. Anyhow there a few personal likes ..but it of corse will come down to personal taste.
  4. "Stumped " Tree services ??
  5. Ooooou ..Risky one that. Bought my "Ex" a electric carving knife for Xmas once after hearing here say she thought they looked like a good idea !! Bad move ..Coventry is a lonely place
  6. Things churn about inside a tank on a saw ,blower, brush cutter ,ect a fair bit as normal. Don't think thats out of the ordinary from your description ,but with regard to "bubbles" Not sure on that one. Difficult to comment on that exact point without eye on observation.
  7. As long as there isn't anything up with the parts you have fitted then it seems to still point to a fuel starvation issue. The vent will allow you to get some air through it if you take it out and suck on the inside tank side …OR..take it out all together if pos and run the blower up with the fuel cap on. At least that should show some result as to the vents worth. All points to fuel starvation though from what you say.
  8. Naaa..Billy goat vac is the tool
  9. Odd one this as with all the parts you have fitted things would have been taken off so disturbing bad gaskets/lines and so on. New carb ? not carb kit ? Is it a build up to poor running with the cap on of fairly instant. Would take a bit to vacuum lock the tank..less if its full .
  10. How about "Timberdown Services" Or one to make umm think. "Tundoow Trees" …think backwards to get it
  11. Shavey (Andrew) for Dolmar...has his own forum.
  12. Database error when moving about site..reload seems to fix till it happens again..4 times in the last 1/2 hr
  13. Think this translates into many makes of kit…landys , tractors , diggers ,Cars,Trucks ….and so on. As has been said its not new and seems to be a human trait. I think there is a genuine reason behind some of the support that Husq and Sthil get. After all i suppose the motive mainly could be down to passing on the benefit to others of what you believe to be a good product . Remaining open to the merits of both is not always going to happen plus Dolmar and Jonsered have a following too. "A following " now there's a thing..remember how some perhaps "Followed" bands ..maybe still do ?? Being open and even handed is never easy ..Especially if you feel you are right in your support of something. Me..I have a soft spot for a Swede , always have..BUT..i like and have Sthil's and Dolmars.. I Cherry pick the expertise the saw companies have and therefore if asked to recommend a saw ..I recommend from my favourites from them all.

Magic job Andrew , as ever il be looking in regularly . Very Happy New year to you and Yours . Best wishes Simon
  16. This may be way off beam .. the chain is a 1.5mm wide drive link width isn't it ? If you happen to have a chain that fits Stihl (1.6mm) bars and it was part worn thus making it even wider at the bottom of the drive link it could be tight. If you pop that worn and oversize chain on a new Husqvarna bar with paint in the rail groove then it could be even tighter. May explain the old Husqvarna bar working due to having a slightly worn rail slot. Iv had a saw in that was bit like that and found a 1.6mm chain on Husqvarna bar.
  17. Have been reading your plight with the personal inside that being done over brings to the situation ..Its no fun !! to put it mildly( house 3 times and workshop once). There are plenty on here "unfortunately" who also will be able to understand from a position of empathy to, such is the ongoing situation with Thievery !! I am from Glos county as well and try to keep up with the situation on a local level. From one Simon to another …I Wish you all the very best to you and yours for the coming year .
  18. Up a secluded river inlet in south Cornwall.. or.. on the Western Scottish Isles .
  19. On a 262 xp ( i think it was anyhow ) exhaust port i had the Sq mm area at 380 and the output on the muffler calculated at 254 sq mm giving about 70% of the exhaust port area. This gives the 380mm as the 1.6 part and the 254mm as the 1 part . Much the same as saying 2/3 rds of the start number (380mm ). Now I'm not saying its scientific in its nature but you can find this natural ratio a lot in many things even if you don't start with the intention in mind. Anyhow there we go..some interest..or none up to you.
  20. Hope this pic came out..not good with the way it works yet.
  21. There is truth in that…however..It is something that crops up in the design of buildings..car design ..in fact Design in general. Sure you have seen the comment "If it looks right ,then it usually is right" I don't say there is a full on formula here ,but i have noticed a posable connection in proportion to things that work well.
  22. Point taken on the limitations of piston/ring and placement /geometry of the cylinder as you find it from the manufacturer. Im sure you have a tried and tested tuning rule, plus the art of cylinder work is far from a simple 1 sentence description as to how and what to do. Do you feel that the final outlet on the muffler has to have a ratio in a certain region to give the best results with your port work so as not to still restrict to much. Would it all be for nowt if the outflow wasn't enough ? This 70-80% rule of thumb seems to crop up a lot.

Ahaa…so there seems to be only the ps 420 listed on the site iv looked at and no mention of the ps 420 sc. Found the sc spec elsewhere and can see its 2.2kw instead of ps 420 2.0 kw. SC..would that be similar to Husqvarna's XP rating do you think .

Thats most of the smaller cc saws with the Cat muffler then … Have you had your hands on a 421 ? just found the Dolmar site and noticed that saw. Not seen it talked about much.
