  1. On the last point - the trawlers have been running out of Oban throughout lockdown, and we have continued to see the shellfish arctics leave the village for France each week. Otherwise I agree re increased wildlife etc - or maybe I am just noticing it more as there are less distractions?!
  2. If you can borrow a 12x6 Ifor flatbed (or similar) you should be able to get a dozen on that (stacked two high) plus one or two in the back of your landrover? Can't be much more than a couple of hours or so each way?!
  3. And it has become even less so in recent days..... We have had two families arrive in our village (west coast) this weekend to stay at their second homes. The Community Council have asked them to quarantine for two weeks, by which time they will probably have to head south again if the schools reopen. Still, they can self isolate/quarantine indoors now that the weather has finally broken! Even read of one muppet who travelled from New Zealand to Skye to self isolate - wtf is that about? Author's 12,000-mile lockdown trip to Scots island WWW.BBC.CO.UK Good Omens author Neil Gaiman travelled from New Zealand to "isolate" on the island of Skye.
  4. Presumably you head east at some point? If so, take a trailer and bring some of these back with you: IBC Cage WWW.EBAY.CO.UK IBC Cages - USED.
  5. Sadly I agree completely with Steve - many in the UK are too self-centred to look at the bigger picture.
  6. Wot he said - but give it time to cure before putting anything on top of it. The bitumen type products tend to cause more by way of condensation IMHO
  7. I have a DTW285 and find it very useful for many things - it will happily undo the wheel nuts on my Disco which are at c.150Nm, Anything larger/tighter that it does not shift (ie stuff which has been set for a good while outside) then I just crack it with a power bar and then use the wrench to spin off the nuts
  8. It isn't just this forum Spud - I also frequent on that is car related and we are seeing a huge influx of first-posters who are looking for help and disappear into the ether. Suspect it will return to near-normal once they all go back to work
  9. Be warned - nobody is invincible. My 23 year old son had it for almost 4 weeks, two of which were spent coughing up blood and barely able to breath. He is active and fit - plays two sports for County/North of England, cycles to work etc. Initially NHS didn't want to know but the coughing up blood soon got their attention - has now been discharged but is far from back to normal.
  10. The Makita saws have a decent reputation and are even stocked by some of the arborist shops such as Jones and R&T etc Sometimes better prices can be found at powertool shops such as the link below - cheaper than some of the petrol saws you were considering in some cases Electric Chainsaws | Powertool World WWW.POWERTOOLWORLD.CO.UK Electric Chainsaws
  11. TRy this: Handy THLSV7 Log Splitter 7 ton WWW.CHEAPMOWERS.COM The Handy THLSV 7 ton vertical electric logsplitter is a great time saver for turning dangerous log chopping into a safe...
  12. Remember that your bank will (or at least should) have an idea of your gross turnover if it all goes pear-shaped.
  13. If you have any Makita 18v tools they also do a couple of reasonable cordless electric ones too - top hander and conventional, some run with a single 18v whilst others take two 18v batteries for a bit more oomph.
  14. If the work is being done on a coastal island (ie instead of an inshore loch or lake) then there are established operators of sizeable landing craft type vessels who will take away large loads in a single trip. A number here on the west coast of Scotland, and I think there are others elsewehere
  15. The EA are buggers for doing this - we quote for a job and get it, and are then asked to spend half a day filling their various CDM forms. We now add that on to all quotes as a separate item. The point has to be made that this is an £80 pound job that has already been agreed, and that you have ready done the TO communication etc on their behalf. If they require any more then they should be expected to pay for the additional time etc (IMHO)
  16. red, green and black fuel cans?
  17. This may explain further: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2016/nov/28/spectacular-bronze-age-gold-torc-unearthed-cambridgeshire-field
  18. Nope but will do now!
  19. Two so far, third is really needed but slightly damp st present
  20. Interested to see how this one pans out - we have a similar engine on one of our generators which will run fine after we fit a new spark plug, but then won't restart after it has been stopped. Six plugs fitted so far but no lasting remedy!
  21. I think Steve was referring to the number of bomb disposal teams Edit - must type quicker!
  22. Discovery 3 loaded rarher too well at 4320 kg last year
  23. Avoid the wee Fords (Connect?) - heavy on fuel and tyres
  24. You should try living outside of 'mainstream' UK - we are less than 2hrs from Glasgow via A roads, yet many couriers/carriers will not even quote to deliver to us..
  25. Me bad - a year ago! Bl**dy BBC web site links took me straight there from the Scottish news somehow-apologies.:blushing:
