  1. 11.5 m/s ?
  2. May be stating the obvious but most of the saw specs give a chain speed. Einhell is 15 m/s, Makita is 20 m/s and some Dewalts are quoted at less than 8 m/s. Guess which of the three companies also makes reputable petrol chainsaws?!
  3. You are not alone - I am still awaiting an oil cap that was supposed to be with me more than a week ago, and some creosote that was 'out for delivery' at the end of April!
  4. Nope - it seems clear to me !
  5. Be warned - my son lives in Temple Sowerby (close to Appleby) and joined in a general moaning thread abcout the travellers during one Appleby Horse Fair on FB. He was 'visited' by three of said travellers who did their best to alter his train of thought - not by gentle persuasion either! On that occasion plod did get involved.
  6. Indeed - oops! Both had certain merits in their day!
  7. Hire in a larger unit to break the ground and then use a smaller machine in years to come. Simples.......
  8. Ah, them were the days - Angela Rippon, Pamela Anderson and NTNON
  9. Suspect you have made an error in the kiln dried cost statement ? Also with regard to weight - nothing can 'weigh less per kg'?!
  10. Ditto Can you imagine if a dog walks over the area shortly after it has been treated with one of those - it's paws would be like a pin cushion!
  11. You forgot Foot and Mouth !
  12. Hmmn, the more I think about this the more I think you need to 'defend' your position. What would concern me (amongst other things) is the increase in traffic that will arise from the conversion of the barn to a holiday let. Assuming that they have full PP and have the 'change of use' sorted with the localauthority, what do the deeds say with regard to useage? I know you have already answered my earlier point about this, but there can often be a clause about 'reasonable use' or similar. (For that matter, do they include business use?) The idea of gates is, I think, sensible - it will make them (and holiday guests) think twice and, provided they are not locked, will still allow them to use the route if necessary.
  13. Nah,both wrong,it was Divein Muffer
  14. I'd be suggesting he runs it under his drive at this point. If relationships have already deteriorated it will only get worse going ahead with his current plan. Failing which charge him a huge wayleave rent each year! PS Don't think he can force his way under your land with utilities as there is a (presumably) viable route under his own driveway, albeit more expensive. PPS Don't actually see why he needs to use your driveway at all. Can you not close it off and thereby force him to access from the eastern part, or do the deeds allow him to use it?
  15. Did someone say Lionel Richtea?
  16. But the room is more than 4m long and the hearth is only 1.4m? Agree with it being the order of 10% of area, but about 1/3 of width of room. You are still left with a room width of more than 8' at the narrowest point
  17. Not sure that is consistent with being an ' ecological contracting company '!
  18. Couldn't agree more - she is gambling with our long-term future (on many issues) in the hope of scoring a political point
  19. How dare you!
  20. It was an off the shelf stove made by a commercial manufacturer (Dutch I think) that was bought totally on impulse with the other two. It consisted of a cast iron frame with a glass front. The side panels and top were made of polished soapstone about 3/4" / 20mm thick that were set into the frame. Side loading with a catalyst and rather complex damper etc. It is currently sat down the side of our current house as it will not fit into the fireplace without major surgery. If I remember I will try and take a photo tomorrow.
  21. Believe it or not the Councillor is not even affiliated to the SNP but stands as an independent.
  22. Went big - Vermont castings Defiant Encore and Intrepid II plus one made of soapstone by a dutch company ( I was living in a large house in the highest village in Scotland at the time - with no heating and soil floors in two rooms!). The inteprid II nearly killed me as it was in my office and would leak fumes from time to time; internal castings would not last more than 18 months and supplier backup was poor; The Defiant Encore was both good looking and a superb stove - would stay in for 24 hours but could also be used as a hotplate; The soapstone stove was so good I took it with me when I finally sold the house. It would take about 4 hrs to actually give out any heat, but when it got up to temperature it would then give a very stable heat and would stay in for days at a time if necessary.
  23. Whilst I agree with most of what you have said, in the case of the BBL (ie the subject of this thread!) I think they have actually been quite sensible - max 25% of turnover or £50k, whichever is the lower. We have taken out one for our charter business which is unable to operate at all this season due to cancellations and the continuing restrictions etc. The 12 month 'payment free' period will allow us to keep trading and pay for most of our fixed outgoings whilst deciding which of the boats to sell rather than being forced into a fire-sale at a time when the market is likely to be awash with similar vessels. Some of the businesses will do as you say, but others will manage to trade through and come out the other side.
  24. I still have one - with the original Flymo mixing bottle - and it is supposed to be 25:1
  25. Afraid not - I am a hydrologist by profession (hence the water) but also deal with moorings and boats (hence the buoy)
