  1. Thanks Bob and John (you can tell I'm not an arborist!) I may start a parallel thread in the near future as we are wanting to put an access track in to a new shed which will involve crossing the roots of a shelter belt we have around our garden, and I would prefer to protect the trees as much as possible.
  2. I can't help but think that you'll get the extra £3k back in years to come, and maybe then some. For me it'd be the Volvo every time. What sort of price are they coming in at new? I have an EC15B but hanker after the 27.
  3. What is an RPZ please Bob? I'm guessing at Reduced Pressure Zone - if so then what sort of cost is the matrix you have used to (presumably) spread the load of traffic? Thanks
  4. It is possible to reclaim road duty of petrol if used for commercial purposes in a boat. We run a RIB with a 200hp outboard and reclaim the duty on the fuel we use for that:thumbup1:
  5. Morning Kevin I've been following your efforts with some interest, and admire your perseverance if nothing else. One suggestion ref your flowchart - I don't think the 'No' answer for vehicles with a gross design weight between 3000-3500kg should go back to the top? If such a vehicle exists then the user will simply end up going round and round in the same loop - pretty much as you have been doing with Toyota!
  6. Thanks for the advice re suckers chaps Off to research suitable herbicides now!
  7. A follow upto Jane's questions: If a poplar is either cut right back to a monolith/pollard, or is felled and the stump left, is there a chance that there will be a mass of new shoots from the root stock? If so,is there any way that this can be prevented? We have a very large poplar (about 110') that was going ballistic on Sunday night as the tail end of that Florida hurricane came through Scotland.
  8. Looks pretty scammy IMHO - esp given Ebay purchase history of beauty products and disco balls!! If not then a bargain to be had
  9. Under sale of goods act, provided it hasn't been abused then from what you say it is not fit for purpose, meaning you should be able to get a full refund.
  10. Whilst I admit that living on the west coast is far from an ideal climate for a machine, I ran my last machine (a Kubota KH41) for over 20 years until the undercarriage finally gave up due to corrosion - not bad for a mchine which lived oitside all its life. Even at that, it was all still working OK, albeit with just over 6k hrs, and I managed to sell it for £500 to someone who is going to rebuild the carriage. I've replaced it with a Volvo unit that I doubt will last as long unless I finish the undercover storage that I'm about to start building.
  11. Have now received an email with a direct download link which works OK Many thanks - looks excellent!
  12. HI Dave I've just subscribed to this - can you please confirm thst the guide will be sent out and is not currently a downloadable document? Thanks
  13. Over the past 35 years or so I've used axes, maules, wedges etc. A few years ago I was given a Stihl splitting axe and find it to be the best compromise - easy enough to wind up for hours on end, and splits without getting stuck. Nowadays I only split c. 10 tonnes per year, but this does it for me. Wider than an axe, but more forgiving than most mauls and with a wooden shaft to boot. https://www.toolstoday.co.uk/stihl-hickory-splitting-axe-2-8kg?gclid=Cj0KEQjwr7S-BRD96_uw9JK8uNABEiQAujbffG_NfhodJkx-jK_Ol9I1n-x_psYZoR9xCddrF1BEIDEaAlRU8P8HAQ
  14. We already are (at least in both Scotland and Wales) Agree re tidal energy - I live less than 5 miles from three channels where the tide exceeeds 9 knots every day of the year, and at a predictable time. It will be harnessed in due course, but one of the biggest restrictions to tide/wave/hydro is the lack of a grid connection.
  15. How do we get this via your web site Rob - is there a specific code to enter as the chains do not seem to be added when I visit the basket? Thanks
  16. The new ones list at closer to £29k rather than £19k?
  17. Cut into slices with a good quality bandsaw, drill/cut out all but top slice and then mount onto rods. Simples.....
  18. I'm with Big J on this one - if you can then buy outright (provided you know what you are looking at) - I've found that it is so much simpler in the long run as (for example) you aren't having to keep an eye on mileage etc. I've bought all my vehicles for the past 30 years - a couple on finance but mostly for folding. Cut the cloth to suit, and take your time looking for the right vehicle
  19. Ditto the 460 for me - fired up second pull last week after almost a year on not being used and very little seems to stop it. Personally I find the Stihl harness OK too.
  20. Are you sure it wasn't him just trying to repeat the stunt fell of the Lombardy Poplar?
  21. Sadly I think you will have to try and call HMRC and explain what has happened. Their systems will, in all probability, pick up an 'unuaual' return in that it is identical to 12 months ago and this may trigger a VAT inspection - something which you should try to avoid at all costs! My last one took a total of 8 visits, at the end of which I owed them just £28.
