  1. Thanks for quick replys guys,we have half a dozen whitebeam in our cemetry and 3 have been covered in ermine moth. Should the trees be removed or is it just the BTK bacterial spray to be used. Can anyone use the spray and how is it applied?
  2. Couldnt upload a video so pictures will have too do Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Any ideas what this is? We have whitebeam covered in what looks like webs but it covers the entire tree. Someone said ermine moth but im not sure. I ll put up a video
  4. Different Y fronts but its the same sausage...
  5. Wouldnt say hes a fool just because hes not earning mega dosh joe.The guy has a fantastic reputation, hes ticking over nicely with regular customers throws work my way now and again and can spend time with his young family. Seems like a great business model too me
  6. We earn a heck of a lot less in scotland than you guys down south. The successful business thing is relative, its a 3 man crew, hes busy most days and keeps 1 full time member of staff and a seasonal chipper monkey. If he was too average out his earnings over a year i doubt he would be getting 23 grand wages. I base success of how busy you are not earnings but i would think others would base it on purley finincial gain.
  7. Takes me 4 minutes to get my harness on...
  8. Learn 5 steps of risk assesment and visual tree inspection before climbing eg raised root plate, signs of decay fruiting bodies, rotten or loose branches etc. Practical part of it is a doodle.Learn the 3 knot system eg running bowline, blakes hitch and figure 8 termination knot.
  9. Good advice I would add-starting climbing so late on will have a huge effect on your body.I started climbing mid thirties, ive always been pretty fit-although i smoked for 15 years and im x forces, but adjusting to climbing knackered me every day. Will passion and perseverance you will adapt to it but its bloody difficult. As said above it looks great from the outside lookin in but when your climbing a slimey sycamore on a pissin wet day it can get to be a right downer. Be prepared to start at the bottom-even with all your tickets. As for earning 23 grand a year...imo not a chance..not for several years anyway.I know guys who own companies, successful tree companies who dont earn 23 grand a year. Free lance climber in the south of England, where the money is, have the potential to earn that but only really good experienced climbers with all the kit could acheive that. If its what you want to do go for it but be prepared to earn it.. We just make it look easy
  10. In 13 years using a chainsaw ive never had to produce my "tickets" Would be different if i had an accident i would think though.
  11. Larks foot a cut away strap on to the eye of the snap lock biner then pass it through the attachment on the zillon and just loop it over the snap hook again. If the cut away is too small you can get a small sewn sling to do the job instead
  12. Just terrible scenes at those burned out high flats... Residents had been complaining for years about the lack of safety in the event of a fire. Bloody awful.Thoughts to those affected
  13. Hi mike,There are a good few people i know, myself included who have come into tree work later in life and made a success of it.Id say get your basic tree felling ticket, chipper and trailer licence as these will make you more employable by tree companies. Its great having a job that gets you excited enough to roll out of bed in the mornings with a smile on your face.Dont get me wrong, wet cold days and dealing with problemaric clients can be taxing on even the most enthusiastic worker. But its a very rewardi g job if your passionate about it.I wish you every success. Good luck mate
  14. I saw a thread a while back asking about this rope,i think it was steve bullman was asking how it fares. Used mine today 13mm stein scorpius with a zigzag,it was ok,tended well and was pretty smooth for 13mm on a zz,did use a multi saver with a pinto pulley prussik though. Was nicer in the hand than my usual 11.5mm tachyon, perhaps im gettin to old for the thinner ropes
  15. I just commented this same thing on the courant harness thread.I use the treemotion light and hanging a 261 or 441 off it is bloody awful...ends up round your groin. Wont be getting another.
  16. I was lookin at that harness on the skyland website awhile back.Kinda annoyed at the treemotion, everytime you put a 441 on it-it starts saggin. I wont even conscider gettin the courant now..fook that
  17. Jolly good of you old chap.Bravo
  18. Nowt wrong with a white van ya know Mr Norris
  19. Cracking dog, well done for giving a rescue dog a great home.
  20. Dips are a great exersise mark, really emphasises the triceps if you keep the elbows in and go low as you can,but if you lean slightly forward you can hit your chest and front delts aswell. If your looking for bigger triceps, which make up 2/3rds of the arms size, keep your reps around 10-12 as triceps are made up of mostly fast twitch fibres that are built for power so lower reps big weight to build them up quick.
  21. Conservatives attack Corbyn over an assosiation with terrorists and now theyre forming a government with the DUP who are affiliated with terrorists...such blatant hypocracey beggars belief.
  22. It just works best for me.Ive been training for several years now and i only use exersises that work for me. Incline dumbell press really gets a good stretch at the bottom of the movement and a you can bring the bells together with a supinated grip at the top of the movement allowing a maximally shortened muscle.Full range of motion is key to really targeting the pecs. The triceps dont get a great secondary workout as a result of this in comparison to say a compound chest exersise like bench press but i work my triceps on a different day.
  23. I dont bench press,i do cable flys and inclined dumbell press for chest work.Bench press affects my elbows
  24. Today i went to the gym which is followed by the usual protein powered pumps, which i didnt inflict on the Mrs..not a stranger but still good for me Good deed for the day id say
