    I feel i should add its local authority i work for and contrary to public opinion i dont were spikes on pruning jobs,neither do we sit in vans suppin T all day and we definetly give a shit about our work.

    Started doing tree work when i was in my 30's-ground work,cross cutting, felling etc,im 45 now.Started climbing regularly just about 40... i think. Its a good 4 man team,we all love the job which makes the work easier.

    For me the age thing is irrelevant,weve progressed massivley from hip thrusting on prussiks and blakes to mechanical devices to aid our ascent and movement within the tree. As long as your reasonabley fit and willing to do the work everything will take care of itself. Work smarter not harder... That last bit was a bit arsey But you catch my drift

    Ive found electric hedgecutters give the best finish but are rarely a practical option. I use the still double sided HS45 hedgetrimmers and get them sharpend or get new blades...always a good finish on privot and leylandii

    Errr...no i dont think it is. Fit body strong mind can accomplish anything if you want it enough. Charge on my good man...charge on!

    Ive been away for a while so havent been able to check in on arbtalk for a while. I cant believe this thread is still in the immigration/ racist debate...its going round in circles.

    Same as steve i rarely use a flipline. The one that lies around is a stein (i think) with an ISC ropegrab. Still got the original cutaway on it too

    Yeah i agree stubby.I dont have a problem with top handled saws being used on the deck. Most climbers have probably done it at some point

    You are absolutley correct in your point of all chainsaw use is dangerous to an untrained individual. My point was however top handled saws are more dangerous to the inexperienced climber as they may struggle to get into the correct work position and the temptation to one hand the saw increases. A rear handled saw would at least make the climber use both hands at all times.

    Very much so,little rear handled saws are great for in tree work before you've received your top handled training, like i said earlier you cant go wrong with a stihl ms 180 or a stihl 211 if your need a little more grunt.

    Ive drilled a wee hole in my climbing wedge and tied a length of throwline to it with a dogsnap at the other end to clip onto my harness. Easy and cheap

    By this statement im sure you have no training in using top handled chainsaws until you have dont use em. Get yourself a little 2nd hand ms180 theyre great gutsy saws and very ergonomical to use

    Saw choice is totally dependant on what your needs are. Obvious choice would be top handled saw if you've been trained to use it in tree.I say this because too many people who have no training use a top handled saw one handed..dont...its dodgey. With a rear handled saw you have to use both hands. For me its the 150 for small stuff,onto the husky 346 then a 440 or 66 in the bigger wood. You could use a ms 180/181 as a replacement for the ms200/201 top handled saws.
