  1. Would it be possible to give the bloke some sensible advice and not lecture him about taking down his own tree?
  2. Difficult to be "nice" to a grinder.
  3. It is truly terrible advice. Many people (myself included) had trouble getting high in a tree at first, with some training and perseverance I managed it.
  4. You could keep it with heavy pruning, it would be an eyesore imo. I'd have it out and plant a few others nearby.
  5. Ha ha! I thought that, still got mine:001_smile:
  6. You want a team of huskies, two pulleys, a transgender Inuit and some pickled beetroot.
  7. Don't take too much off, you wouldn't want to ruin that lovely shape!
  8. If you read through this thread you'll get lots of info on the hollow ground/flat ground question.

S'right, this is poplar, burnt recently. It was late morning before I fully trusted it to keep going though. In reply to S.Varty btw

I have some pallets I keep for just this sort of thing.

    Dry wood and a blower.
  12. I doubt if they can be hired without an operator,
  13. Good option, still got 80 stumps to dispose of though!
  14. Bigger is always better. You will regret doing this manually though.
  15. Got it on my grinder Swinny, sounds like a Ducati!
  16. Get a grinder in but 1200 is a bit steep. Any grinder with 25hp or above could do 80x8" dia leylandii in a day easily. They are fairly shallow rooted and a tirfor will get them out fairly easily, but doing 50 will be gutty.
  17. Nicely done, could I ask how much the new engine cost? Briggs and Stratton or Kohler?
  18. The Chinese bought the name.
  19. Can't see any future for that tree. Most weeping willows left to their own devices will break up fairly quickly. Bit of judicious topping would have saved that tree.
  20. "Locked into a cycle of continual management of any regrowth" Like cutting a hedge for instance?
  21. I hate when people say "I'm not really a morning person" As though it's an actual medical condition as opposed to just being lazy and rude.
  22. I'm always one for an opinion but in this case (bearing in mind their situation) I reckon a proper inspection by a qualified sort is the only option.
