  1. Ahhh, I thought there would be a lecturer in there somewhere.
  2. Limes are an exception, same as willows, planes and a few others will take a later in life topping to start a pollard cycle. It's aesthetically less pleasing (at least for the first couple of years) but can work to maintain a tree in a restricted space. Point is to lump all trees as just trees and should be trimmed/treated in the same way is nonsensical.
  3. No they're Limes, lapsed pollards that I hammered a year ago, here they are today, "limping along" They'll be fine and they can be redone as hard, in 5/10/20/50 years till to no ill effect. Sadly no tree I know has ever read BS 3998 or whatever. They don't know they're supposed to die.
  4. I toped these trees, do you fink there gunna dye?
  5. Oak yes, only birch in the immediate area are those I planted.
  6. Fly agaric, in my garden, just because. At the base of a young birch tree I planted 5 years ago, I did mulch with chip the first couple of years, I guess that's it's origin in this site.
  7. I can't eat heavy at lunchtime, big brekky, big tea/dinner, sarnies only for me. Plus as much tea as possible. Each to their own of course.
  8. This has been round the block a few times on here. People judge you on your appearance (first impressions last and all that) If you've taken steps to look like Max Cady, expect judgement.
  9. The yanks use a lot of bigger petrol engines in their chippers, I get the impression there's a lot more idling (of engines) and stacking up of brush as opposed to running machines balls out all day. Fuel is cheaper of course over there.
  10. I do think you're worrying too much about fuel consumption.
  11. Is it possible that that's a big oak stump or the like and the avium grew out of the stump then fell over? It does look like Avuim bark mind, amazing size.
  12. You said it, buy cheap, buy twice, that's all there is to it.
  13. Those bills seem very reasonable for the work done.
  14. http://www.charentelibre.fr/2017/10/04/un-elagueur-pique-100-fois-en-cinq-minutes-par-des-frelons-asiatiques-a-ruelle,3143792.php Here is a incident that happened near me. Utilty tree guy in a cherry picker, 12 mètres up, stung over a hundred times by Asiatic hornets, the guy operating it on the ground was stung as well and ran away! The guy in the bucket was a climber (luckily!) so jumped out of the bucket and managed to get down, the bandages on his forearms are from sliding down the trunk. Lucky to be alive.
  15. I've owned a few over the years, as you know Mark, the big sellers Jensen, TW, GM, Forst, Schliesing etc. Are all good machines, what'd give me a buzz is showing people how these things can help them make more money.
  16. That's not really selling though, more marketing.
  17. I'd like to sell stuff, like chippers and grinders, I was a salesman in a previous life so know the drill. Not going to happen, but had things been different....
  18. Start an Arb forum on the internet.
