  1. This is a good point and one to consider when climber. Also another thing that got my confidence up in the beginning was my tutor telling me that on average a tree can hold 4.5 times its own weight, so they are strong buggers. This changes from deferent species but I have rigged some big lumps out of pops in the past and never had a mishap (touch wood), and they are about as week and brittle as you can get.
  2. Your not being pathetic mate, your being cautious, it's a good thing (a very good thing). If you don't have a little fear then you have accidents. I'd say if you've only been climbing a few months it's normal to feel a little worried and check your kit more often than normal, especially if your being asked to get up some bigger or riskier trees. Don't compare yourself to other climbers because everyone has a different way of doing things and different years of experience. But you should learn off them. I've been climbing several years and still learn new tricks and ways of doing things even from people less experienced. Speed will come with time and is not important at the moment.
  3. I don't really suffer from any fear of the job myself, other than the odd dodgy or big tree, but I'd say it's not definitely a bad thing as it's always best to be safe. How long have you been climbing? It may just be linked to the amount of time you have been climbing or if you have had a near miss etc etc. Like I say it's never a bad thing to make sure your safe.
  4. now thats sexy
  5. Not to bad for a Saturday then. That's a hell of a lot of chip for a pop though. Good stuff
  6. Good stuff mate, nice to see a bit of a tricky one done well. Good tune too.
  7. Good stuff mate. How long did that one take. Not to long on a Saturday I hope.
  8. Worked in a call centre when I was about 16 for 1 hour, the guy who was training me put on a voice like Dracula on one phone call and was a complete and utter nob, who was either full of cocaine or had some serious anger problem. I got up to go for a slash and he started shouting abuse at me, I walked out completely gob smacked. Saw him about 3 years later outside a pub drenched in his own sick and thought "looks about right".
  9. Both good, no complaints my end but I know the arbortec trousers may not be the right fit for everyone. I'm a skinny little git so they suit me down to the ground. As mentioned before I think the Mendel boots work better for climbers at they where out pretty quick on the deck.
  10. I'll look in to it. Thanks mate
  11. Haha I'll give it a go then
  12. I'll look in to it but are you sure it's photo editing software. The title seems a bit dodgy to me
  13. Thanks Steve. It's looking a lot less of a problem already. I will spend some time looking though these sites and see if anything pops out at me.
  14. Nice one mate. Not a bad starting point. I'll look in to getting photo shop as it's something that I've been meaning to do for a while anyway. Thanks
  15. Right I am getting all the little things together for my business venture and have come to a bit of a stop sign. I have got my company name and have bounced a few ideas around for a logo but nothing is looking right (I am a terrible artist). I'm just looking for a little advice in this area, what people did to get there logo? I would like to avoid spending the best part of a grand on something like this but I fear going down the graphic design route may be my only option :-/. As I'm just starting out maybe it is something I can hold off for a bit but I'd like to get some business cards made up and think is maybe best to get the logo out there and stuck in people's minds early on. Any ideas, what did you guys do when you were setting up shop? Thanks in advance people.
  16. This is something I was thinking about the other day. People often rush, see the tree and get climbing as opposed to get the signs and cones out properly and set up site before even putting on a harness. I've worked with lads who think it's alright not to bother with any of that and think it's alright to be chipping up on a main road without a hard hat on. Winds me up, if there is an accident they don't have a leg to stand on. Another way of looking at it I suppose is that if you and your company do everything by the book and look the part Joe public will notice your not a bunch of Cowboys and you'll be the one that will get the call when work needs doing.
  17. Get wet, moan like mad and have a go at the groundsmen for having cups of tea when I can't. Slip about a on wet branches a bit, moan some more then have a piping hot shower when I get in.
  18. That would be an interesting read, do you think there may be some kind of archive on the net for those sorts of articles? I know it's a long shot.
  19. I agree I drive the same as you and assume every other driver is likely to do something stupid. I may be ignorant I just didn't realise it was actually this bad.
  20. Nice work mate
  21. That's mental, what kind of moron would do this. Surely they need to change the law if this keeps happening. (How many BMW divers are involved in this? Lol)
  22. Just out of curiosity when are these changes likely to happen? Are there going to be any major changes to the layout? I've got used to it as it is and being a technophobe it will probably take me another 6 months to get used to a new layout. Thanks
  23. I had a job years ago running cables for a firm and we worked on the top of hi-rise flats a lot where they often put these masts. We would be up there for a few hours at a time and if the job was going to take longer we would pop back and finish off later on in the week to make sure. There were some guidelines like only doing 4hour stints next to them but I think it was more of a safe than sorry as the radiation wasn't was controlled as that of an x-Ray. But your right better safe than sorry. Myself and others never suffered any short turn effects. Right I'm off to try and sleep, but it's hard nowadays with this glow in the dark body of mine ;-).
  24. Yeah it was channel 5 I think. Surely even if the soil is clean it would still blunt the saw pretty quickly
  25. Wooden flooring is great but look in to it as there are loads of things to take in to consideration. Type of timber is important, spacing is important and if your looking at having a log burner look at the regulations for gaps you need etc etc. I would avoid going down the laminate route at it soon looks cheep and tacky IMO. It's great material but take time with it and look in to it properly before jumping in head first. No real experience on my part other than helping a mate out who does flooring for a living.
