  1. Crikey! I’ll pass it on to them mate. I picked mine up from Turners at Piercebridge about 3 years ago for a steal it seems. I paid £825 inc vat for it, with 24 inch bar and chain…. It had been used as a demo at a show or something. I’ve had it Spud ported too, wonder what it’s worth now?!
  2. I know some lads locally who could be interested fella.
  3. To give an update on the Ash tree I quoted for a while back….. A firm I know locally did the job, all done and dusted by 2pm, for £500. So, I’ll put my hand up and admit I was totally wrong on that one! Happy to hear the fella got it done, and the lad I know did the work and he was happy too. On a totally separate note; someone my mrs knows has I dare say, been absolutely shafted on price for a job. Now I don’t know specifics about site, access etc. but, they had 16 Ash trees felled, and I think ringed up on site for firewood so no real arisings to deal with. The photos I was shown depicted a portly man wielding what looks like a Stihl, but not sure what exactly. Oh and he had shorts on. And the job had to stop as someone cut their hand with a chainsaw. Oh and they were charged 7.5k. I don’t even know if the job was finished, and I have a terrible feeling they might have paid up front. When they told my mrs who had done it, I looked them up quickly. All the classics there on the advert: OAP discount, lopping topping etc. Unbelievable really, but sadly, believable somehow 🤦🏼‍♂️
  4. Been to TractorFest at Newby Hall today 😎
  5. Yesterday me and the family set off on a nice walk from our holiday cottage, over to Bibury for an afternoon tea at the Swan. It was the last day we were away, before heading home today. As we basked in the sunshine, admiring the beautiful surroundings, we heard the sound of an aircraft. Now this wasn’t something new, as all holiday we had been watching the planes flying from RAF Fairford. But imagine our surprise when we looked up and a Lancaster bomber flew right over us! Absolutely stunning 😎
  6. I had been using Super Sexy stuff, bit needed to buy some in a hurry recently and got some Morris stuff called Croma 30. Seems decent so far. Was about £55+vat for 25 litres, bit that's about the price unfortunately these days. I got 2 X 25l of Super Sexy stuff for about £70 last time so near enough same as you paid @spuddog0507
  7. I have recently gone through a real pain the neck process for what would've been my biggest job ever, and by a very large margin. I didn't even want it, but was kinda told it was happening! But once if worked out my pricing, walked the site multiple times and really tried to cover all bases, the original plan was scrapped and replaced with a different option. I was not prepared to do this option, as the methodology was ridiculous and unworkable. Someone else will likely do it, but I feel like I've dodged a bullet slightly. As much as the payday would have been lovely, the hassle and work involved would've been hellish. The most important point raised here I think, is don't buy the work. It's just a race to the bottom.
  8. My Shogun cost my £140 to fill recently 🤦🏻‍♂️ There are some very valid point raised here for sure. The cost of secondhand vehicles both commercial and non, have gone up a lot. A bargain can be had (relatively speaking) if you are lucky, but be prepared to pay for something you really want. Jimny prices have soared too! Security is a very important point. The windows in my Shogun are tinted dark but can still be sent through. I have built a Heath Robinson storage system out of ply and MDF, but it is due a replacement now as it's lasted 3 years. My plan was to fold down or even entirely remove 2 of the rear seats and extend the boot as such. I'll leave one seat free incase I need to move people. I think if you generally work in the woods, away from prying eyes, you can be reasonably safe. It's the trips into urban areas with the thieving twunts you have to be cautious of. Getting something with 4x4 capabilities will no doubt be a bonus, but a lightweight smaller van with decent tyres can often be manoeuvred well on rough terrain (driver skill level dependent).

    Porting

I’ve been in touch with Mark and I’m sending some saws in next month. The excitement levels are palpable!
  10. A few very dead Sitka hit the deck today. God I love my job!
  11. That’s another fruitloop on the ignore list….. 🖕🏼🤡🤦🏻‍♂️
  12. I call those people morons. As In, they add some more on 🤣
  13. Those American videos do nowt for me, at all. The sheer state of the stumps they leave is enough for me to need to lie down in a dark room for a while 🙈🤦🏻‍♂️
  14. So, pardon the likely daft question, but will I need to replace bars to accommodate the narrower gauge of 0.50? Or can you run a 0.50 chain on a 0.58 guide bar? I’m absolutely fed up of the deteriorating quality of Sugi Hara, I don’t rate the standard Husqvarna bars, and wasn’t overly impressed with the Tsumara either. I am however, very much in favour of the GB bars! Amd seen as we’re on the topic of bars and chains….. I’ve heard talk of the sprocket being changed to increase chain speed. Is this straightforward enough to do or does this start throwing things out?
  15. Hmmmm, very interesting! 👍🏻
  16. I've not been blown away by the Oregon, but equally not been let down either. I'm guessing this is one of those things where you could spend ages analysing the differences but in real world terms, it's not that noticeable.
  17. Never considered it, happy to explore further! Cheers.
  18. I apologise now, as I’m sure this topic has been covered multiple times previously, but I’ll be damned if I can navigate the maze that is the Arbtalk search function 😂 So a tiny bit of insight… I like to buy my chains in bulk (100ft reel previously) and got myself a reel of Oregon off Rob D a while back. It’s coming to an end, and I need to look at replacement. I can’t say I’ve done much research into alternatives as all I’ve had is Oregon, so I’d be intrigued to hear thoughts on other offerings. I like full chisel, and Will not entertain semi chisel in the slightest! This will be for my 2 smaller ground saws (Husqvarna 555 and MK2 550) both running 18 inch bars, so .325, 0.58 and 72 drive links. Commence online argument about chains……. NOW!
  19. Tom is a spot on lad, a proper character! He used to do a fair bit, but got injured so had to change it up and did the All Things Arb magazine, that then drifted into the podcasts.
  20. I should've said earlier, I also have high resolution copies of any of mine that you might fancy using 👍🏼
  21. You lucky, lucky bugger! 😂 Jokes aside, it’s been decent of you to share your thoughts and progress with them on Instagram, enjoyed seeing them in action.
  22. I think the 30K model and upwards have mesh. I have the 50S which does. It’s great apparently, but no bugger I work with has mesh on their Sena 🤦🏼‍♂️
