  9. Ah the Joke was on me as I misspelled the thread title, that's what happens when you gloat i suppose!, Whats funny is during the conversation the client told me that he 'had a quote for exactly the same thing for half the price....' I have bills to pay, and at the moment I am catering to clients and the lower end of the price scale, I was just in shock that someone would be willing to do at less than minimum wage BEFORE expenses!
  10. Now then, I'm not normally one for sour grapes, but this did provide a little chuckle when I drove past. A while back I was asked to quote to clear a few mixed species which were blocking some advertising. This being during a slow spell, I put in a VERY competitive price, and walked away fairly confident that I would win the job. I was then told that someone had put in a price at less than HALF what I had quoted.....This bothered me for quite a while afterwards, wondering how it was possible to do the job so cheaply and even made me question my own prices. That was until yesterday when I drove past and saw the devastation...I slept a little easier last night.
  11. haha still waiting for my carte vitale....since june...
  12. ah well, there's your problem I've had nothing but issues with french speaking Belgians and Parisians.... Here in darkest Brittany people are much friendlier
  13. There are a few threads on here filled with useful advice, have a search and do some reading. First things first, your chances of finding work with a french company without being totally fluent are slim. Secondly NPTC's aren't really recognised here, although qualifications aren't mandatory in the industry so that isn't a massive problem. Hints and tips.... prepare for A LOT of paperwork if you are making any kind of permanent life here. Don't be disheartened, the french really have a great attitude to work and there is always a market for someone willing to work hard. I am by no means an expert on this matter as my company is still in its infancy but if you need any help let me know.
  14. I have filed down burrs from drive links after the chain slipped off the bar once or twice, as long as its only a couple and you catch it before it wears the bar you should be fine.
  15. its happened!
  16. SEO simply stands for search engine optimization, in its simplest form it just means things like make sure your site is formatted correctly and that it doesn't contain any bad or broken links. Its not something to be feared, read up and do it yourself if you want to avoid paying someone
  17. Get social media accounts, Facebook, you tube, LinkedIn etc etc and make sure they are correctly linked to your site. Try to read a bit about SEO, it takes time to learn and understand all the terms but its the only way if you are looking to do some things yourself. A quick fix is to make sure you have a google places listing, it normally puts you at the top of the page if there is not a lot of competition in your area.
  18. Galv posts?
  19. You didn't try the 'me no speaky the french' routine?
  20. I am also looking at this style of machine, the GTM/GTS looks like the original.
  21. I have the 04 1.5 diesel too! cant seem to make the seat drop though... maybe it was an extra?
  22. Luckyleaf!? how dare you!
  23. Myself I have a second hand climbing with yale xtc, the little dollie 420 and a kangoo van. chipper decisions need to be made...
  24. Here's a game for you, and one that the answers might provide some useful insight for those of us with limited budgets: What tools and set up would you go for if you could only choose options from the 'budget section'? Lets define it as this, 'In the cheapest 30% ish percent of the like for like options available' I.e Vehicles- Mogs and new 4x4's would be out of the question, you are looking at small vans and second hand tippers Saws- Probably disregarding the big 2 brands Harnesses and Climbing kit- Likely to be looking at yale and treehog products. I realise its not as fun as playing with unlimited virtual funds but it could provide some debate as useful knowledge!
  25. I would say, make an effort to offer the correct solution and why what the customer is demanding could harm the tree. If they decide they are still right, go ahead with their plan and take the money.
