  1. Light snow and cold wind, wind chill is terrible.
  2. Nowt as queer as folk !
  3. If the boss makes his work decisions based on his wife’s whims then I think he probably won’t be a great boss, you may have dodged a bullet there.
  4. I like my log tongs better, the pickeroon aggravates my tennis elbow, if she isn't enjoying the pickeroon try log tongs instead.
  5. We've all been there, recently took down a dead flowering cherry that someone had poured cement in to ! wrecked 1 chain totally !
  6. I use mine in Cumbria and had no issues, the chip causing shorts is easily avoided if you just wipe the saw down regularly, I’ve found the battery saw really easy to keep clean.
  7. I had one, til I was taught to hand file properly, it’s ok only a light touch needed or you risk over heating the metal. Don’t forget the rakers too.
  8. I’ve a 120 which for general pruning and trimming is excellent and good for light tree work. Reliable and easy to keep clean. Battery is a bit pricey tho.
  9. Have to give a big up to Rough hewn who recommended this saw to me. Top advice.
  10. Just to report back, had a battery saw for a wee bit now and it has exceeded my expectations. Sthil 120. Great for stop start jobs, easy to clean and reliable so far. Not a replacement for a petrol saw, but it is a welcome addition to the saw range. I’ve cleared a big patch of rhododendron and cleared some crappy birch from a really steep site and it did it with no issues. Would be great as the chipper saw. Just wish I’d bought a few more chains when I bought it as sharpening picco is pants ! The future is bright for battery saws if they can just reduce the battery replacement cost.
  11. Heavy snow and blowing an easterly in North Cumbria, not great 😊!
  12. You need a well anchored stump vise and a wedge to get the chain as tight to the bar as possible, oh and your reading glasses ! And good light helps, sometimes use the torch on my phone but it kills the battery.
  13. 550 on a 15 inch bar is awesome ! I’ve just been shown how to square grind too and that in syc and larch is superb !
  14. Oh and the police.
  15. Thomson twins and garbage for my contribution!
  16. Are they just hammered in to the ground or is it on a stand ? I’m tempted to get one.
  17. I’m with Kriss, wrong species in wrong place and it will just get out of hand. Just fell and replant with an nice ornamental tree. I like the ornamental rowans and the birds like the berries!
  18. Why do they want it thinned/pruned ? Nice looking tree.
  19. Very wet since lunchtime on Monday in north Cumbria, with no break in the rain forecast till Friday and snow for Thursday. Cold and very wet now, ground is saturated so local flooding is a certainty.
  20. Does anyone make a copy of the Sthil ak20 ? I like the wee battery saw but it chokes me how much they want for the spare battery! I am Scots and as stated before tight as f**k.
  21. Did 2 batteries worth today clearing out rhododendrons. Never missed a beat and perfect for this type of job where you cut stop drag a bit of brash then cut a wee bit more. Petrol saw would have been a pain of stop/start. Loving my battery saw. It’s the future alright !
  22. None this year as i only supply neighbours, and one has put in under floor heating and the other moved on and the house is empty. Might have to talk to the wife now as I've run out of excuses to go and cut logs.
  23. we've got sleet at the moment in Cumbria with snow forcast for the afternoon. Yuck !
  24. Corded saws are good where you have easy access to mains electricity, particularily if you need to stop and start and load and unload branches etc, just got to remember to re-fill the oil ! I nearly got one but don't do enough in the yard so got a little battery saw which is good for jobs where you would be stopping and starting the saw a dozen times. No regrets but you do have to keep it razor sharp and not expect it to cut like my 550XP ! Decent corded sawa are quite cheap too.
  25. Welcome to the club it’s all up hill from here, although it is supposed to be down hill it just feels uphill !
