  1. I hate deadwooding, not enough.........destruction. Two climbers wages + running costs, insurance vans etc + your profit. You should really be able to figure out costing a days work though.
  2. That's a very nice looking chip box, I've always been of the opinion that the tool box should run underneath as you're putting all the chip weight to the rear over and behind the rear axels.
  3. Is this where people who own and run their own business, make a very nice living, own their own houses and go on exotic holidays claim to be working class?
  4. Cherry picker? Ridiculous! spikes on, climb up, chog down cheque please.
  5. Stumpers have a hard life, use it, keep your eyes and ears open, grease regularly, and get on with it! Belt tension and don't be too greedy at the stump.
  6. I had a Kohler command on my 1625. Never missed a bit in 10 years.
  7. Not new, Napoleon called us a nation of shopkeepers. It's always been about money "it's the economy stupid"
  8. Trouble is with a hung parliament the minority parties have a big say. Or you might say that's a good thing.
  9. I'm 51 years old, I lived through the three day week, power cuts, miners strikes, even striking bloody firemen. I didn't mind Tony Blair (apart from the whole war stuff) but I tell you I could never vote for a real socialist. It's the politics of jealousy.
  10. Nice work, properly difficult, requiring climbing skill......and in reality a bit pointless. Good practice for trees like beech etc though
  11. Sorry, here's a better pic, anyway, looks like the same to me.
  12. Sweet chestnut twig from outside my door.
  13. Relatively speaking, chippers are getting cheaper and cheaper.
  14. What we cannot see is how big the crown regrowth is out of shot at the top of the picture.
  15. Terrible, Scott it's bad but you'll fight your way back.
  16. In tree work you always need a grab.
  17. I don't know what you paid but that looks a handy thing for around the yard, plus the occasional local day out.
  18. You can only speak from your experience Hodge and broadly speaking I think you're right. 20 years ago when I first started out in this game I worked for a firm that would drive in to London every day from the Home Counties. The people I worked with would steal petrol, smoke dope, knock out private work and take every liberty they could. I tried hard to get on with it as I wanted to learn but was swimming against the tide. On the other hand we were give jobs well beyond our abilities and experience. In hindsight the firm was dysfunctional.
  19. Schlieslings are pricey, you'd struggle to get a decent one at that price. Google earborist, plenty of suppliers and private sales on there.
  20. That's an interesting story Ian, keep us posted on it please.
  21. Where's the chipper? We want iron!
