    Pay

Yes they all get together and have meetings to laugh about how little to pay climbers. It's called a free market economy.

I see a lot of ads on employment section here that don't seem to get filled. Time to move on I reckon.
  3. Loss of dignity can be a terrible thing, when I was in the hospital for a couple of weeks for those ribs I mentioned a while back I didnt "go" for the first 10 days. I built up a friendly rapport with the nurses, thinking myself quite the heroic figure. So nature took its course and I requested the chair with the hole. It was a weird feeling sitting in the middle of the room straining (cos it was rock solid by now) hoping no one would walk in. Then I had to hand this.....matter over to the pretty nurse, who had to inspect it! The horror! Keep going Sean.
  4. No, fair enough, as a sycamore it would support being cut lower no problem. And as you say it would be more convenient/easier to manage. It would be the same amount of work for more result. If the client likes the height because it blocks out some flats or something behind fair enough.
  5. That's a Greenmech!
  6. I would take it down another 2 or 3 mtrs below previous cuts.
  7. I think that's probably worth a punt, thanks.
  8. Yeah, I figured there was no miracles, I'll ignore it for a bit longer I think.
  9. Ha ha, maybe you're right.
  10. http://viz.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/077-28-rogermellie.jpg His replacement is already sorted.
  11. I'm guessing 40 tonnes. Cos if it's a working day I'm out.
  12. 51 years old, been to Thailand, Mauritius, Cuba, and other places, I just can't handle long haul flights any more. If I was 20 years younger I'd be off.
  13. Don't really want anyone round my yard/field when I'm not there. Poplar/willow etc won't really fly well round here.
  14. Not really practical for different reasons, but yes, although he drew some stick from some people for taking income from real log suppliers.
  15. Two sides to every story.
  16. Access is an issue, I agree it is a waste but thing is when you can go out and earn pretty good money chopping them down, time spent behind a splitter could be better spent out there pulling in the cash. I'm sure many of us have a similar problem. Aspen Arb had it right, stick it outside with a "for free sign"
  17. I've got a compact tractor and log splitter, I just don't fancy that stuff, I hate even splitting my own firewood, maybe my original plan of getting a farmer to push it all up into a big pile and put a match to it will happen.
  18. Some of its 3ft diameter.
  19. I'll have a look now, thanks
  20. Around 5 grand
  21. Ok log boys here's the question. I'm a tree surgeon who has piles and piles of cedar, pine, yew etc in the corner of my field. I burn a lot of my own hardwood and any excess can be given away no problem. It's the softwood that's becoming an issue. Burning these large sections will be problematic so I thought maybe I could split it and sell it, mixed loads/softwood is the future of firewood I'm told. I hate lifting and splitting so I want one of those jobbys with an arm that swings out and lifts it onto the splitting bed and a conveyor to minimize handling. I would prefer a self powered unit as I don't want to put the hours on my compact tractor. What do the experts think would suit my purpose?
  22. Yes, no offence but there are loads and loads of spelling mistakes.
  23. Yes, all good advice, good stuff, obviously a few awkward moments but it'll all come with practice, well done.
  24. Nguna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Apparently 1300 live there. I Just google earthed the place. Logistical nightmare all those islands spread out. Keep us updated when you can.
  25. This is what I've done, run it out of fuel and tried to rev it up as it starts to die. It has always seemed to work.
