  1. i was once offered a job clearing trees from bridges and reservoir outlets, considered using compressed air saw and diving gear.but stopped by red tape ..there is no cs unit for using chainsaw underwater, diving ticket yes but diving with a chainsaw no.draw the conclusion that a big crane was the answer.it all depends on depth of canal and how much tree is underwater.bank constriction if you winch large lumps up bank will it damage clay lining etc.good luck . a barge mounted crane seems the way to go .jake:thumbup:
  2. what you need is a turf vac.a giant hoover that makes a bale which you can lift with a forrklift. if you have a nearby turf grower go and ask them to vac up all the grass and keep cool.jake:thumbup:
  3. i had a bad day today burst main hydraulic pipe on kubota and sprayed off a lawn with oil.so i am going to the show tomorrow. jake
  4. when do i start??:laugh1:
  5. fences can be lowered an put back. tractor winch on front crane on back fell ,log stack brash with crane .stack logs .job done in 3 hours 300 quid,
  6. why dismantle ,,a straight fell looks possible.a day crash and smash:laugh1:
  7. they would make pretty good climbers ..dont think that they would need a harness either mm
  8. thats http://www.dcmaccess.co.uk
  9. yes you can get one .where about are you as there is one up here in biggar.i hired it a month ago and it costs 450 a day with driver.try http://www.dcmaccess.co.uk: thumbup:jake
  10. are you getting tip from nordic tyres in lockerbie?the have a good deal on chains and bars although short of 1.5mm gauge. windsor stuff is ok too.
  11. isnt stainless more brittle than high tensile wire?fine on a straight pull but once wound round winch drum it may start breaking stands and become weaker and horrible to handle.jake:thumbdown:
  12. weedkill then digger and mobile screen .if you want to keep the gravel.sift all the crud out and relay clean gravel.jake
  13. normally you need to wait for about 6 months before you can use grazon 90 or other selective weedkiller.or else you will check the grass too much.if you go earlier and with a weaker mix you wont kill the weeds, regular mowing will tighter the sward and help maybe not with ground elder .a mpca weekiller is cheaper but less effective.jake
  14. any members have a stump grinder and want to to grind out two lime stumps about 3 foot across, just outside biggar lanarkshire.ml12 6.(scotland) if interested let me know and we can fix a price...just too busy at the moment to go to hire shop and do the job.no need for chip rem0val .and good acess .
  15. that job looks good for the ribcage!! cut them and hang on tight.impressive though
  16. tractor mounted winch, make a big pile of brash and drag it up in a onner, can get timber up too.might destroy the lawn but its a good time of year for grasseeding!
  17. will it survive like that maybe a bit harsh on the old girl?
  18. good luck with that one....if it was a proper engine maybe.
  19. climbers dont drag brash ... they light up a fag and watch you and spend ages sorting out their kit and coiling ropes:thumbup:usually get a hand with the last branch ,thats when they are looking for their cash though!!!
  20. mind and keep them well watered over the weekend as its going to be hot.dont want the laddies to be upset on monday if they have curled up and died.its a lot better than empty coke cans and the usual detritis one finds on friday night!!1:thumbup:
  21. no two tree are the same and in this game no two jobs are the same ,you cant beat experience but you all need to start somewhere,as i say its not what you know but its the abillity to adapt to particular circumstances and to be able to think on your feet that is more important .if you were a bricklayer yes its same oh same oh boring and repetitive work but skilled too.
  22. i wouldnt worry ..no one knows everything but as long as you are a good learner you will soon get the hang of it . i had a laddie once staight out of college with more tickets than i could ever read but he took 45 mins to fell a 8 inch spruce tree (after texting his mates a lot!!) he lasted one day and bye bye:laugh1:
  23. keep mine in truck .fed up with phones filling with sawdust and going on the blink.iif someone wants you they will know to ring at piece time or after dark!!1:thumbup:
  24. its more to do with attitude.a lad willing to learn and who does a good tidy job will go a lot further than someone who knows it all and wont learn from others who have been doing the job for a long time. a polite and confident manner is more important on domestic jobs than skill level.as the person employing you should know what he is doing.jake
  25. my climber wont answer his phone unless the job is worth at least 200 for him and its job and finish:blushing:
