  1. We've got one of these and they are great for chains that have struck metal etc.... For the best results I brush water and oil on the grinding wheel while sharpening and it stops the chain hardening with the heat.
  2. Shakespeare.... Duh.....ov course
  3. Look forward to seeing you. All of our lot will be there on the Saturday.
  4. Hi Paul, We're up at Lincoln Showground this week under canvas. Still can't resist a few mod cons tho. Hope you're well. Are you at the APF this year? TImon
  5. Now that is truly horrific. On every level.
  6. Perhaps I was a bit harsh there..,
  7. Ill remember where I heard it first...🙂
  8. There really isn't much to choose from really..... A egotistical raving madman or a liberal shapeshifter with the morals of a Mississippi steamboat gambler. Some choice.
  9. It's not just politics that is broken.... The whole world is broken. We just happen to live in one of the more "sheltered" parts of the brokenness.
  10. That's right. An Arbaid kit is getting closer to the top of the wish list. At the moment we have the Israeli bandages and celox etc.. We've all recently done a first aid course. I think the guy that sells them insists on you doing his course before he will sell one to you. I may be wrong about that though.
  11. It's all starting to make sense now! 🙂🙂🙂
  12. Hence the price of the kits.....
  13. Do you go on mumsnet as well, Mick?
  14. Excellent post.
  15. I book easier smaller jobs on a saturday for the lads to do . I can manage about 17 quotes if I set out early enough and plan the route well. That way I can squeeze the odd ones in during the week. That's covering a big city (Bham). Planning the jobs that I can leave guys on while I nip and do the quotes is helpful. So far I haven't had to do many in the evenings.
  16. It can be a bit like that over here. There was a case recently where a guy was floating face down in a lake. The chief fire officer first on the scene wouldn't let anyone wade in and try and rescue/resuscitate him. The risk assessment deemed it too dangerous. Eventually a copper insisted on going in, the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene. I think the copper faced disciplinary action. The box tick, litigation mentality, nanny state strikes again.
  17. Back to the original topic. I'm about a stone and a half overweight at 14.6st and at 51 no spring chicken. I manage most things in treework ok. I'm certainly not what you would call a super fit athlete. When it comes to first aid, some of the skanky areas in Birmingham that we work in, a tetanus jab and a stab vest would be the order of the day 🙂
  18. Surely I do....
  19. Nice, but did it get a CE mark?
  20. You can limp home if you have a puncture with a single...... Obviously
  21. Tracked chipper would be the ideal but don't have that kind of money at the moment. I was thinking of getting a used GM 1928 then as things build then possibly get a tracked machine. Would have to do more licences to drive a 12 ton. Perhaps this is the way forward. Thanks for your replies
  22. That's what we try and do. Our subby is also an NPTC trainer so he is really good at passing his skills on. Obviously old fashioned apprenticeships are the ideal for someone to progress from rookie climber to seasoned pro. I doubt there are that many around anymore.
  23. I thought one of the main reasons for bringing a subby in is to help on jobs that are assessed to be beyond the skill level/experience of the day to day crew. That way the crew can gain the experience in these kinds of jobs safely.
  24. I'm looking at selling our mog / pto chipper and getting a bigger truck and chipper which is more road friendly. Possibly a 7.5 or a 6.5 (to tow a bigger chipper as I'm only allowed up to 8250kg mam) We also have a 3.5 transit and 150 timber wolf and a little Berlinger van. (Thinking of swapping the Berlingo for a L200/ranger tipper) I wanted to hear from those who run multi vehicle firms and what your experiences are with different types of vehicle combos. We do mainly domestic work but do quite a few large removals and small site clearances so we need to be flexible. It would be great to hear which kind of combos have worked well. Thanks in advance
