  1. If the brake band is either distorted or broken it can contact the sprocket causing the heat, also if the saw is not oiling properly the chain will start to seize in the bar, this can and will cause the clutch to slip in the drum causing heat from the friction between clutc and drum. If the chain is as blunt as a badgers ass this will also cause clutch slippage.
  2. They are .404 solid nose bars ( Windsor ) sir, bloody awful.
  3. Absolutely you should to stop the muffler recesses filling with debris.
  4. The plate was added to stop dirt/ dust Ingres into the screw heads, the securing screws are set down into the muffler, on top of the muffler should be a plate and spark arrest or over the outlet.
  5. Look at picture five, the shaded area on the inlet port is where the nicks sill lining has gone, classic dust ingress, has one of the rings passed the ring peg?
  6. Thank you for that sir, will teach me to read the bloody manual now and again.
  7. The 32, 36, and 42" bars were always .404 solid nose bars , I have asked the question about guide bar lengths so we will see
  8. TS 410 was not Stihls finest hour, however as has been said these machines run in a very hostile environment, once concrete dust enters the cylinder it mixes wthe fuel and becomes lapping paste, a sure sign is if you look at the inlet port from the inside you will see a dull area either side, this is where the plating has worn away and the alloy is showing through, the rings will be worn to excess, a new pot and piston is then required, you also need to be looking at the big end and main bearings, it's pointless assembling a new cylinder before checking these points, look at the paper filter and the housing behind it, any signs of dust beyond the filter is bad news, never blow out paper filters as this opens the pours and will allow dust through.
  9. Crankshafts snapping was due to the the back of the clutch not being completely square, this in turn stopped the clutch from completely locking onto the crankshaft shoulder, on the saw over run the clutch would spin off, as the saw accelerated again the clutch spun back onto the crank with great force, this continually happened until the end of the crank snapped off, it is very unlikely a crank would bend, if enough force was exerted on the crank journal it would snap, not bend.
  10. I have been playing about with one, my initial comment was how loud this machine is, not sure if it’s just a different tone, but it is loud, it ran very well with the 28” bar on, however Husqvarna have never done a longer bar on 3/8, so it should be interesting to see what other bars come along, it seems a very revy saw, not what I expected for a big saw, the standard felling dogs seemed too small, quite nice to put it on choke, pull and go, I guess time will tell what other people think.
  11. I can see this all going pear shaped, just buy yourself 5ltrs of Husqvarna pre mixed alkylate fuel.
  12. No the magnet is in the fuel hose just past the filter, the blue top filter is the new higher filtration version, seems like the magnet is just for the auto tune unit.
  13. I have not seen the 585 yet, I would be interested t know if the magnet is in the fuel hose, hook the filter out of the tank, fast past the filter is there a bulge in the fuel hose.
  14. I have used these for many years, top tip if you put a thin rag over the grease hole and push the grease nozzle through the rag into the hole, this seals the sides, always works.
  15. I always disconnect and throw the carb heaters away, they can cause all sorts of running issues.
  16. I would be taking the muffler off and taking a quick look at the condition of the piston through the exhaust port before you do too much.
  17. Did we ever hear if this got resolved?
  18. Sorry pressed enter before I had finished, there will be two wires for the earth cut out, these fit to terminals which you will see once the carb is removed.
  19. Not the best picture, however the only pipes on that side of the carb are the ones to the purge bulb, a pipe from the carb to the short connection on the purge bulb ( suction side ) the other comes from the long connection on the carb ( pressure side ) and runs back to the tank.

  22. I know the early cylinder definitely had open transfer ports, and was fairly sure the later one did as well, oh well another moment.
  23. Another senior moment, old age doesn't come alone.
  24. Did he say it was a special? I thought he said it was very old,
