  1. Did you buy a B37-110?
  2. If I spot it at the time of quoting I mention it to them that we will need it all cleared up. If we get their and it's not been cleared up I will ask them to clear it up or we will be leaving. On one occasion the guy gave me some poo bags and asked me to do it[emoji23][emoji23]so we went and put the gear away and made as we were leaving and he soon picked it up! It's a bloody disgrace that people don't clean up after their dogs in their own gardens.
  3. If you can afford to drop the £50 and you want the job then drop it, make out you are doing him a favour. if you can't afford the £50 then walk away or just say sorry I can't drop £50, he may accept it anyway. You could get future work from him and if you do always go in a bit higher than what you want for the job so when he tries to barter you can drop to what you want.
  4. It's a very poor rate, I pay brash draggers that can use a saw more than that.
  5. I forgot to mention that as I'm based in the Lake District we get a shed load of rain, if we called off jobs due to rain we would have no money😂 also the climbers I use are good lads and want to get the job done. We have had to stop once due to severe wind and that's it. Last winter we had a large Beech to dismantle, it was appalling weather but we got the job done. I had in my mind allowed 5 days on the job and we did it in 3.5, we all put a good shift in regardless of the rain.
  6. More like they just couldn't be arsed. We work in all weathers, rain.....so what, we just get on with it and go home. End of.
  7. I was the same but it's such a weight off not having to keep watching my rolling 12 and worrying about doing that job. So far it's working ok.
  8. My post wasn't aimed at you dude....you are one of the good one mate[emoji106]
  9. Who cares what you bill, there is no need for all this cock swinging ego crap on what was an interesting thread. I've been off AT for a few years, I've missed some of the regular peoples story's and opinions but the new breed see ms to have a lot to say when they don't need too, like they have to have the last word.
  10. Any decent tree firm is going to be charging at least £500 a day. Therefore over 48 weeks that's £120k turnover per year. So they will have to be vat reg to be legal...
  11. Spectrum plant do Timberwolf blades. You register on line and the email a pre paid lables, box them up and send them to them. When ready they call you up and then you pay and they are returned. Takes about a week.
  12. Interesting, Ive just been reading this California: World's largest tree wrapped in flame-resistant blanket to save it from wildfires California: World's largest tree wrapped in flame-resistant blanket to save it from wildfires NEWS.SKY.COM Last year, wildfires killed thousands of sequoias in the region, some thousands of years old. This year, several large trees, the Giant Forest Museum and other buildings have been wrapped for protection. Scary stuff, I hope you can save them...
  13. Interesting reading....
  14. Statement of Practice 4 (1983) - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK
  15. 10 months on and is the op still alive or has he died from stress??[emoji6] seems like has too much on his plate from reading this thread...
  16. Try Arborisk or Trust, both good company's. I am with Arborisk at the moment but I was with Trust for 14 years. I currently pay around £1200 a year for PL and EL, I am a small tree surgery company with a turnover of around 95k
  17. As I'm sure I've said before....you have to do what is best for your business. I know a contract climber who earns under the threshold but is considering going vat reg as all his work is for vat reg company's. He would get fuel etc and equipment vat back. That would be a good thing.
  18. I should of said that I don't show it as a separate figure, I put it as £575 this includes vat and waste removal.....
  19. I was in this boat a few years ago, and I had to register, it wasn't the best thing for me at the time and I ended up de registering after about 18 months. That's when things got difficult. Trying to run a busy tree company and staying under VAT was difficult, I was always having to watch my rolling 12 months which became hard work, a constant battle and it got to the point that when COVID came my work load went through the roof and I went over the threshold by a lot. I had to register. Luckily I have a good accountant, I claimed back over 10k in purchases, we went to the VAT people and explained I had work booked in and accepted before I had registered and we were able to come up with an acceptable outcome so I didn't have to loose money on jobs as I'd already quoted. It's going ok now. Most quotes I send include vat on the figure rather than saying plus VAT. This seems to work, I've lost a few jobs but then I have gained a few also. Because of the pandemics lot more people don't have cash and also I can't spend cash very easily so I say that I can accept cash but it won't make the job cheaper. A lot of people also see that the government spent billions on furlough etc and they don't mind paying VAT as they see they are helping the country. VAT is not as bad as you thing and you just have to make it work for you.
  20. Agreed, I have written many times to my local MP asking him to raise the question of the VAT threshold with the PM. In my humble opinion if the VAT registration threshold was £10 grand then pretty much everybody in any trade will have to register, this would mean more money for the country and a more level playing field for the trades, it would also benifit all the trades now they are registered as they would be able to get the VAT back on fuel, phone, purchase of equipment etc. I did get a reply off the MP which came from the chancellor that basically said no. They are a bunch of muppets and they don't see the wider picture.
  21. Perhaps you should check your property deeds before getting to clever with the council. I know of a couple of people local to me that have a covenant written into their title deeds forbidding the running of a business from it, the other has something similar regarding parking commercial vehicles (work vans) on his close.
  22. I take mine to them if I'm in the area £15 a tonne, great if working near but it's a bit far for a landy full....[emoji6]
  23. Perhaps an out of hours advice charge should apply on a nice little email you send over[emoji6]
  24. Some people have no common sense regarding when to ring. If it's late let it go to message. That call could be a nice 2k job or a £60 quickie at the end of the day on the way home. It's all potential work and money. Never turn your nose up at someone calling because it doesn't fit your schedule. If you are not getting calls then you could be over the moon at someone calling at 9pm on a Sunday........
  25. The 55 lt drums are great, they fit in my fuel store no problem[emoji1362]
