  1. 19k plus vat, I had one. When running well it's a great machine, I did not like the engine. It was always hunting. I now have a SG40
  2. I have just got an SG40, I traded in my B37-110 for it......I'd only had it 11 months.very happy with the new machine.
  3. Here we go........retired climber, I should of expected this when joining a thread you have posted on......I'm trying to say that yea have a contract but at the end of the day it means nothing if they don't pay you.no doubt you will shoot me down again...you are like the man that shit himself.....he knows all about it. People like you are never wrong, clever as the days is long...nice one. I've only been back a day and you just rub me and countless others up the wrong way..adios...
  4. Yea it is. I am nearly putting another opinion in the mix. Speaking from experience.
  5. You can write a contract that says your payment terms are at the end of the day but that does not mean the person you are contracting for will abide by said contract.....I hear story's of subbies round my way waiting weeks for £120.....it's a piss take imo. I pay my guys on completion of the work they were brought in to do. I then wait for the money off the customer.....I charge enough that this is worthwhile and I also have a good overdraught!! Contracts mean nothing. I have payment terms on my invoice of on completion of agreed work, but when I'm doing commercial work they expect you to adhere to their terms of 30days take it or leave it.
  6. Every time I use them the have broken......I now only use genuine TW blades.
  7. Did you buy a B37-110?
  8. If I spot it at the time of quoting I mention it to them that we will need it all cleared up. If we get their and it's not been cleared up I will ask them to clear it up or we will be leaving. On one occasion the guy gave me some poo bags and asked me to do it[emoji23][emoji23]so we went and put the gear away and made as we were leaving and he soon picked it up! It's a bloody disgrace that people don't clean up after their dogs in their own gardens.
  9. If you can afford to drop the £50 and you want the job then drop it, make out you are doing him a favour. if you can't afford the £50 then walk away or just say sorry I can't drop £50, he may accept it anyway. You could get future work from him and if you do always go in a bit higher than what you want for the job so when he tries to barter you can drop to what you want.
  10. It's a very poor rate, I pay brash draggers that can use a saw more than that.
  11. I forgot to mention that as I'm based in the Lake District we get a shed load of rain, if we called off jobs due to rain we would have no money😂 also the climbers I use are good lads and want to get the job done. We have had to stop once due to severe wind and that's it. Last winter we had a large Beech to dismantle, it was appalling weather but we got the job done. I had in my mind allowed 5 days on the job and we did it in 3.5, we all put a good shift in regardless of the rain.
  12. More like they just couldn't be arsed. We work in all weathers, rain.....so what, we just get on with it and go home. End of.
  13. I was the same but it's such a weight off not having to keep watching my rolling 12 and worrying about doing that job. So far it's working ok.
  14. My post wasn't aimed at you dude....you are one of the good one mate[emoji106]
  15. Who cares what you bill, there is no need for all this cock swinging ego crap on what was an interesting thread. I've been off AT for a few years, I've missed some of the regular peoples story's and opinions but the new breed see ms to have a lot to say when they don't need too, like they have to have the last word.
  16. Any decent tree firm is going to be charging at least £500 a day. Therefore over 48 weeks that's £120k turnover per year. So they will have to be vat reg to be legal...
  17. Spectrum plant do Timberwolf blades. You register on line and the email a pre paid lables, box them up and send them to them. When ready they call you up and then you pay and they are returned. Takes about a week.
  18. Interesting, Ive just been reading this California: World's largest tree wrapped in flame-resistant blanket to save it from wildfires California: World's largest tree wrapped in flame-resistant blanket to save it from wildfires NEWS.SKY.COM Last year, wildfires killed thousands of sequoias in the region, some thousands of years old. This year, several large trees, the Giant Forest Museum and other buildings have been wrapped for protection. Scary stuff, I hope you can save them...
  19. Interesting reading....
  20. Statement of Practice 4 (1983) - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK
  21. 10 months on and is the op still alive or has he died from stress??[emoji6] seems like has too much on his plate from reading this thread...
  22. Try Arborisk or Trust, both good company's. I am with Arborisk at the moment but I was with Trust for 14 years. I currently pay around £1200 a year for PL and EL, I am a small tree surgery company with a turnover of around 95k
  23. As I'm sure I've said before....you have to do what is best for your business. I know a contract climber who earns under the threshold but is considering going vat reg as all his work is for vat reg company's. He would get fuel etc and equipment vat back. That would be a good thing.
  24. I should of said that I don't show it as a separate figure, I put it as £575 this includes vat and waste removal.....
  25. I was in this boat a few years ago, and I had to register, it wasn't the best thing for me at the time and I ended up de registering after about 18 months. That's when things got difficult. Trying to run a busy tree company and staying under VAT was difficult, I was always having to watch my rolling 12 months which became hard work, a constant battle and it got to the point that when COVID came my work load went through the roof and I went over the threshold by a lot. I had to register. Luckily I have a good accountant, I claimed back over 10k in purchases, we went to the VAT people and explained I had work booked in and accepted before I had registered and we were able to come up with an acceptable outcome so I didn't have to loose money on jobs as I'd already quoted. It's going ok now. Most quotes I send include vat on the figure rather than saying plus VAT. This seems to work, I've lost a few jobs but then I have gained a few also. Because of the pandemics lot more people don't have cash and also I can't spend cash very easily so I say that I can accept cash but it won't make the job cheaper. A lot of people also see that the government spent billions on furlough etc and they don't mind paying VAT as they see they are helping the country. VAT is not as bad as you thing and you just have to make it work for you.
