  1. I know of a couple that do, but I would think they are getting closer due to all the storm work we had up here, the other thing is they will get work because they are not vat reg but then they will be busy and it will push them to the vat limit. I found that fighting it became so hard and when I went it was a relief......
  2. Thanks Steve, I will look into it.
  3. Good answer, I agree to a lot of what you say. We have to as an industry try to set our stall out how we want it to be accepted. There are a lot of tree firms that work for wage and costs and never even think of profit. The customer thinks we work for peanuts, they like to tell us it's only a small job, that it cost way less 5 years ago etc, etc. I try to offer a decent service at a fair price. I try to pay my guys a fair rate for the skills and risk involved. I have noticed that with the current economic climate the customer wants more for the same or less money. The lads and myself want more to cover the cost of living increase. The problem is that the customer can just get the cheaper lads in with older kit that has been bought cheap and they just muddle along.....and I try to do it right and have decent gear that is reliable and safe but costs me more to run and look after and I want to be able to buy new equipment when needed. In our area we have a rogue crew doing the rounds and they are charging 3-5 times more than the going rate for work, they are doing a very poor standard of work and people are paying it. I feel they won't last long as people wise up.
  4. What is available for an apprentice in Arb? I'm looking to possibly take one on.
  5. 2k for TM?? That's insane....for 1 day??
  6. I fill out the form as I always have, they have a form because then it cuts down on issues like the one the thread is about. It's not really a case of the council wanting their arse wiping 🫣If the council are having to send emails out asking for this and that completing then it wastes time. I do find it funny that people don't like authority or the systems they put in place to do a job more efficiently which then saves time and money.
  7. We have to complete a form on the planing portal which is then submitted to my local council, all the information you haven't put in your letter is needed.
  8. Hang on, no need to be like that, I did take time to read your post! Seems like you put a post up but don't like the replies you are getting. My comment was based on how your post came across.
  9. But are you not complaining because you didn't get the job? Yet you went not expecting to get it?? Why go at all.....[emoji848][emoji848]
  10. I am looking for a competent freelance climber to help out starting in June. You must be able to work to a high standard and carry out all aspects of the job. The work is in and around the south lakes area. I pay fair depending on skill level. All I ask is that you have a decent attitude and turn up on time and work smart and safe. Please just send a PM. Thanks.
  11. I find it best if you mix the paste up, spread over the area where the splinter is and then put a plaster on and leave it, sometimes it may only take a few hours and sometimes it may take longer. Just keep changing the dressing and putting more on.
  12. Magnesium sulphate has always worked for me..
  13. Why not get an app called picture this and you just scan in the leaf or trunk and it tells you all you needtoknow
  14. I love my SG40 and I like the engine asi had one in my HB20 and it never missed a beat in 7 Years. The SG 40 with the razor wheel is fantastic. I did not like the Briggs Vanguard I had on my Jo Beau....
  15. Forst do one, my mates have tried it and said it's ok but he said there was so much electronic gadgetry on it when it stopped working they couldn't suss it out..they had to re boot, it then worked again for a bit. They were not impressed. They tried the 230 p and the 230 and liked the diesel better.
  16. Gotta because of the Ivy[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
  17. That's my issue with the 280 also. I'll keep my old 230 going. You will enjoy your 230P, they are a great 6" chipper. [emoji1362][emoji1362]
  18. The 280 is a bigger machine, wider tracks. Much wider than the 230.
  19. I don't know about the Greenmech but I've been reliably informed that to de restrict the TW 230 25hp all you need to do is change the pulleys and the stress control unit......I guess it would void the warranty or I'd be buying a 25hp 230 vtr tomorrow[emoji23][emoji23] although they can't have the auto reverse fitted that my older 230 vtr has...[emoji22][emoji22]
  20. Round our way they do not care and do anything for money as you would have to find them before they can be done...[emoji23][emoji23]
  21. Im keeping my 35hp 230 vtr chipper going at all cost mate as I love it.
  22. I hate Ivy, my climbers hate Ivy, my Groundy's hate Ivy but my chipper loves Ivy.....[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji106] Ivy ruins trees......kill Ivy......
  23. I have the older diesel 230 vtr and the new petrol 230 is no where near as good. Had I had a 150 and then tried the petrol 230 it would be a step up but to go from a 230 diesel to a petrol would be a step backwards for me.
  24. When I was quite green and keen I went to price a conifer removal. It was a bread and butter job, the conifer was in a raised bed and was cracking the walls, the render was flaking off. I explained that I could cut the tree down in sections and carry the bit to the front of the house and then grind the stump out. I should of known something was going on when he asked how to remove it in sections and how I would cut it, what was a step cut?? The man asked if it was an option to leave the stump and I said it was as it won't re grow. He then asked if I knew any builders who could sort out the flaking render. I gave him my mates number. When we got to the front of the house I asked for his email, he said "why do you want my email?" I told him it was to send a price......."I don't need a price mate" he replied " I just wanted to know how to do it...... I was blown away by his cheek! I told him what I thought and left... I learnt a lot that day[emoji23][emoji23]
