  1. Landrover do a job, basic but hard as nails compared to modern plastic trucks, they are a total different ball game to ranger etc, chalk and cheese. My defender has its place as does the ranger. It's pointless comparing them. If I want to go and pull a big butt over or go working in some rough ass places than the defender is my choice, if I wanna cruise around with air con on an in comfort it's time for the Ranger.
  2. I have 4 massive cones if anyone wants em, buyer collects;) oh yeah sorry mods, arb trader ya say?......
  3. Nice.......
  4. Are you working up here then? If so where?
  5. As the weekend wine flows this thread could get messy;)
  6. Good bloke, I've known him for years, way before he got into the industry. We worked at a chicken farm together in the early 90's.
  7. Or Steve Lanaghan?
  8. Tyla?
  9. I guess it's the time of year as eggs says, stormy nights mask all the noise they make busting locks etc. There are about 3 other threads about thefts on here at the moment so we all need to be vigilant. I wonder who is buying all the stuff too? Dodgy tree firms?
  10. It depends on the amount of good heartwood as to the value. Maybe get some pics up.
  11. Yes it was like that last night so that makes sense. Thing is the stuff just vanishes. It doesn't help when Google and the likes have your address on the sites etc. Alan is a decent bloke and runs one of oldest tree firms round here. Scumbags..
  12. That should say fellow tree surgeon:)
  13. A fell tree surgeon in the lakes has been done over last night and had everything taken Chipper, Saws and tools. If your in this area be aware and keep everything locked up!!
  14. Another reason I use Aspen;)
  15. I have a 130 td5 tipper, it's great but to spread the wear and tear I have just taken a 3 year lease out on a double cab ranger LTd, I towed the tracked chipper today to a job and it great. I can deliver logs in it and leave the lads working the defender. The lease is a great price and far better than buying one.
  16. By time you put a 4x4 running gear in the pay load will be like a teaspoon.
  17. They make a 4x4 canter it's about £40 grand plus vat
  18. Sorry, I don't have an L200 I have a 130 defender. Most people are keeping timber round here, if it has to go I either come back with my big trailer or if there is loads I get a bloke in with his valtra and timber trailer. I have my tracked chipper on a Brian James 10x5 tilt bed trailer, I can fit my grinder on it at the same time.
  19. At the end of the day it's what works best for your business model. What works for one may not work for another. Do what works for you.
  20. I carry 2 lads, and dry gear in the cab if I have to, I have a tool box built in the tipper body, I run a tracked chipper, I don't need to go off road loaded with chip as I can track the chipper onto the jobs if needed, I can pull up on streets out side the house and chip into my tipper body without taking the chipper off the trailer. I wouldn't attempt to carry a full load of chip and chipper across a muddy field, I would drive the Landy and track the chipper. It works for me better than a transit ever did, and that ai what matters. Yes most firms run a transit and a 4x4 tipper or similar set ups, most city tree firms run a transit as that works for them. My landrover was but as a tipper by Land Rover and I had the chip box made.
  21. Cheap isn't always best.
  22. I've had a transit tipper and would not go back, I have had 2 landrover tippers and it suits me perfectly. I can get plenty of chip in the back and tow 3.5 tonne, I can get into tight drives, lanes, ally's and fields which you couldn't with a transit.
