1. I carry 2 lads, and dry gear in the cab if I have to, I have a tool box built in the tipper body, I run a tracked chipper, I don't need to go off road loaded with chip as I can track the chipper onto the jobs if needed, I can pull up on streets out side the house and chip into my tipper body without taking the chipper off the trailer. I wouldn't attempt to carry a full load of chip and chipper across a muddy field, I would drive the Landy and track the chipper. It works for me better than a transit ever did, and that ai what matters. Yes most firms run a transit and a 4x4 tipper or similar set ups, most city tree firms run a transit as that works for them. My landrover was but as a tipper by Land Rover and I had the chip box made.
2. Cheap isn't always best.
3. I've had a transit tipper and would not go back, I have had 2 landrover tippers and it suits me perfectly. I can get plenty of chip in the back and tow 3.5 tonne, I can get into tight drives, lanes, ally's and fields which you couldn't with a transit.

If you ever come over to the Lakes give me a shout and we can hit some great Singletrack on my doorstep.
8. I sell .5 cube builders bag for £55. The wood has cost me nowt and process it when we Finnish early or have my man logging and splitting in the summer. I don't buy cord in anymore as its not worth the hassle. There are people round my way selling kiln dried for bigger all but have spent loads on kilns??
9. Would a climber want someone without a rescue ticket? How much is a truck and chipper gonna set you back, £10-15k for anything half decent that isn't going to be breaking down all the time and costing you money,?Then have you got the capital to buy it or is it on finance? Then what can you get for a truck and chipper per day? £300 max if you can get it and there are a few threads on here that will say you won't. I would think long and hard about going down this route, there are better ways for a gardener to make money over the winter if you set your mind to it.
10. 2 and 1/2 mate and maybe freeze a portion as I load it out with veg. Carrotts, swede, mushrooms, parsnips and shallots. Tastes better out of the freezer.

I do a lot of MTB as living in one of the best places for it helps, there are so many good trails in the lakes even when the weather is pants like it is at the moment. Check out hodges MTB thread on here.

16. Do forst have a rep on Arbtalk? Maybe they should get to have their say but if the comments about having a tool box so fix it yourself coment is true then that is shocking. Surely these problems are covered under the 3 year warranty or is it not worth the paper it's written on?
17. Sell it.
18.
Think you have sent this to the wrong person mate.

Getting work

Most of us run successful businesses and have worked hard to build up a good reputation, we find it hard to see the industry being de valued. Good luck in your business but I'm in the words of Duncan Banatyne, I'm oot!

Getting work

Bird, write down on a bit of paper how much it costs you to go and do a day tree work, insurance, fuel, wages etc. Add it up and you will be shocked. You say you have PL insurance, does this cover you for tree work? Chains as etc? If you are employing someone as you say you are then you need employers liability insurance, it's the law. Maybe talk to your dad about how you run a business as it sounds like your heading for trouble.

Getting work

That's not how business works really though bird, you need to be making money out of him working, even just a little bit. This industry is over run with people who don't charge enough for the dangerous work we do. You say the lads work full time and you work full time, you charge someone £150 to do a days tree work where I would be charging 3 times that minimum plus vat. You get the job and then down the line when you are doing tree work full time and need to put your prices up to pay for the knackered gear and insurance and training etc no one wants to pay you the proper going rate as they can get some one in on the cheap for £150 a day for 2 men. It's de valuing the industry.
22. Decent climber in my area £140 starting rate. I wouldn't bother for anything less if I were you mate, it's not worth it.

Getting work

Charging £150 a day for you and a bloke is way to low, and this is not meant to seem rude but do you know much about business? How much are you paying the bloke? How much are you paying yourself? Is this thread genuine? I mean I've just re read the whole thing and I'm not sure you realise how it comes across.
