1.
evening. You lot busy at mo? ive got a crane job on tomorrow :-)

2. I worry about cut peeling apart or barbers chair when thay have got a bit of foward weight than i worry about the anchor point
3. That man is a genius If you put a cargo net over the throw line you wouldnt have to abandon it when it rains I use a washing basket cause im to tight to buy a cube but i feel a upgrade coming on. Will give the washing basket to the lad that works for us, he winds is throw tine up round a stick, now thats painful to watch, and funny if he hasnt unwound enough before the throw
4. Evan the stien is over priced I use a folding wash basket from the pound shop It works just as well as the stien but only cost a pound The curent one has got looney tunes on the side so its easy to say its mine They tent to last about 6 months so on average it £1/year thats got to be cheaper than the stien cause your lucky to get a year out of one Oh and i got a 8oz bag that to light but ok for short work in open trees and a 10 oz for most stuff
5. thats a silly thing to broadcast on a open site I have also seen pigeons sitting already, daft birds
6. if you want a tirfor style winch google "the ratchet shop" there service is fantastic as is the gear, i couldnt find cheaper for a winch and the strops etc to go with it unless you dropped to a lower standard of gear.
7. Did it say there is a exemption for orchards? and the trees in question are the orchard boundary? You might be exempt from it as the orchard needs maintenance - topping of the boundary trees (more light to fruit well)

Arborisk

the service is still good when it goes wrong
9. Thats my thoughts Give the customer the option: 1 - It will take us a day to do the trees @ £xxx and it will cost you £250 to sort the fence after or 2 - It will take 3 days to climb them, you will still have your fence but its going to cost £xxxx Most people will go with the new fence evan if the total cost work out about the same then you can smash the job out, get on to the next one and subbie the fencing it so you earn from that and the job your on the next day Put it to the customer and see what you get. If your honest from day 1 its all good because you have kept your word and reputation. Rather than i got the trees down on time and on cost but sorry chap i f***ed your fence bad rep travels fast:laugh1:
10. Thank you all. There is some good points there both fore and against. I only run one truck now, and i alone drive it. The driver issue isnt a big one, try finding a groundie with a trailer licence to tow the chipper any way! The older lads that can most of them have there 7.5t licence any way from before the rules chamged and if the cpc isnt needed that makes it easier
11. Weve been thinking of upgrading our 3.5t canter to a 5.5 or poss even 7.5t so the numbers add up a bit closer to the mark on the weigh bridge Whats the true cost of going bigger? I know the cost of doing my cpc and getting a operators licence but that seems fairly straight forward so i must of missed something So what have i missed and how much does it realy cost to go bigger? Set up cost as well as day to day? Also do i need to do the cpc when driving the truck doesn't earn me money only what i fill it with once im there? Cheers for any thoughts/help
12. We try to stop, but it doesnt always happen. I dont mind being called any time/day in case of a genuine emergency but calls late at night or on a sun for no good reason will be rung back on the mon
13. thanks for the offer but there is far to much of the stuff on our little rock with out importing it from your "North island"
14. exclent. thank you very much, im looking at ringing Rob D for a alaskin next week, been talking about it for a long time, its time to have a go me thinks. Ive been looking for a use for laylandi for a while Thank you for that link se7enthdevil looks handy
15. Cool, thanks. I have seen it used and knew it was a durable timber but i wasnt sure if i could work it green (Ive not got anywhere sutable to season timber but could find a home for a few benches to sit for a year for the sticky stuff to escape
16. Can laylandi be worked into benches etc green or would it twist and split into nowt but logs? I know its going to be no use untill its seasoned cause of the sap escaping and leaving sticky stuff all over you if you get within 5ft of it:laugh1: but in theroy if the bench was made green would i survive untill it dryed enough to use? Thanks in taking time to read my rambles
17. We have had no probs with northern arb, good service every time, spent £1500 with them today in confidence. The only prob is if you ring up they dont talk proper like us lot down ere Every one gets it wrong at times, i waited 2 months for a rope from the jones boys then to be told they didnt have any, northern arb delivered one in 36 hours Also as often as not they are cheaper than most as well, bonus
18. Very good, i once melted the riddle grill out of a multi fuel wood burner with blackthorn
19. dWouls the ash / birch / sycamore and maple copice in blocks? that way you get good fire wood every year and the wildlife will move from the block you just cut to the next one, if you can work out 10 blocks and work one a year you will have a decent size timber for fire wood by the time you go round for a second time. Pesonally i wold lose most of the laylandi buts that a personal opionion. they could be milled up on site to build you a tea hut etc.

waders

We were woking on a windblown tree over a stream the other day. Had to abandon the saw boots and wear waders During the day we had a conversation wondering if anyone makes waders with saw wellies built into them? I always do this sort of work my self as i worry about sending the lads in with no protection (from a libality side )
23. Wet n Windy on the isle of wight, even if it does snow i reckon its to wet for it to settle
24. Compton Farm Caravan and Camping Site / IOW - Isle of White I think these are open all year round, not sure what the cost is like tho. they are out in the west of island, nice n quite with cracking views out our end
25. I wouldnt worry, it will break again before the lack of oil does any damage Sorry i cant help:blushing:
