  1. Alot of farmers are actually injured and killed.
  2. The handle I attempted developed a slight curve in both axis of direction which I thought wouldn't matter much as it was only very slight but it turned out it was actually annoyingly noticable (in a bad way) when used. Its seems it needed to be 100% straight on the sideways axis otherwise its not good. 😏
  3. Theese ideals often sound good in the headlines until you think though the whole enviro impact & consequences. That just news reporting the cons goverment enviro policy its not an opinion piece like this by the farmers favourite George which is anti the idea. Why are we feeding crops to our cars when people are starving? | George Monbiot | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Modern biofuels are touted as a boon for the climate. But, used on a large scale, they are no more sustainable than whale oil...
  4. Some fancy pricey ones here: Replacement Handles For Sale | Woodsmith WWW.WOODSMITH.CO.UK Nice range of sizes in length a thickness .I thought you needed the grain to follow the handle fairly well if you shape against the grain to much makes it weaker. Broken a few new bought handles and noticed the grain alignment was poor like it this pic: If buying one in a hardware store at least you can look at them and a try choose a better one. But the ones in the local store if I recall correctly looked poor i think for the above issues
  5. What is crap about the bought ones? I tried making some but found it tricky to get ash logs to cleave along grain in a straight line often seems to curve or be wavy. I think a tree from a properly managed ash plantation might have straighter grain. Hickory according to wood database is slighly more elastic which seems to be one of the desired wood properties for impact tool handles. Plenty of 36" hickory ones about for £20 each might be better quality than the cheapest ash ones? Elastic Modulus: 2,160,000 lbf/in2 (14.90 GPa) Shagbark Hickory | The Wood Database (Hardwood) WWW.WOOD-DATABASE.COM Elastic Modulus: 1,785,000 lbf/in2 (12.31 GPa) European Ash | The Wood Database (Hardwood) WWW.WOOD-DATABASE.COM Ash will probably be in short supply soon due to ash die back. Japanese use oak for axe handles but maybe we should be planting some hickory in the UK? 😏 Another tradition species apparently is osage orange for tomahawks
  6. I'd of thought some of that that armoured stuff listed would be going to ukraine now? Nice bucket truck
  7. A few yrs back I think there was some very large auctions that had alot more stuff listed?
  8. Nice good luck.
  9. I thought they didn't live long? Black Alder in the park of Chatsworth House, Edensor, England, United Kingdom WWW.MONUMENTALTREES.COM

  10. Looks healthly to me many are half brown on the outside as they dont sprout from the old wood once pruned back
  11. Rackham reckons American oak mildew is now preventing natural oak regen within woodland.
  12. I don't' think power washing was a good suggestion as a chance it would remove the render.
  13. All the worktops in the science block in my old school were mahogany shame they all got ripped out and skipped to be replaced with formica.
  14. Reds ate my hornbeams several ft off each tree. Non ring barked but a dozen look like this. Suprisingly it seems to have had little effect on the trees so far with regards to growth.
  15. Free Growth of Oak silviculture event at Crumblands Plantation — Woodland Heritage WWW.WOODLANDHERITAGE.ORG Free Growth of Oak - a sell-out Woodland Heritage event, which included a field visit to the Forest Research long-term... Anyone being here would be interesting to have more details of there management? 13400 tree per hectare really dense is that corrrect? Always thought that it would be best enviromentally to retrofit rather than replace but it seems to not make economic sense versus new.

That RCV stuff is interesting but seems nothing new happening with then for a few yrs nor sure why development stopped? https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/dc8d/d88169fbdb9399a7dbe340faf1a779a77d2c.pdf Looks good must be some downside though i assume? Dolmar had a wankel rotary chainsaw.
  21. Husky 420el 2000w (or if you like the colour teal the UC4051A makita version ) though doubt it would have any more cutting power than the florabest, just better build quality spares availiabilty and less vibrations probably. The florabest model is listed as 2200w which is about eqivalent of a good 40c petrol saw if the chains sharp should be ok unless you are bucking alot of larger diameter harwood rings. If thats the case you need say a decent 60cc petrol saw to speed the process up...... Stihl do make some slightly more powerful corded ones but they are not sold in the uk and are very pricey. MSE 250 - Very powerful electric chain saw WWW.STIHL.COM Powerful STIHL electric chain saw for demanding tasks when building with wood. With a 3/8" RS3 saw chain for high... Also if the flora has had yrs of use might be worth checking the motors carbon brushes for wear. All the corded saws still seem to have brushes im sure if the demand was there a improved more modern brushless motor corded saw like on the cordless chainsaws might improve them abit.....
  22. Where is the holly tree?
  23. The fundemental problem imo with batteries is that they are just no where near as energy dense versus petrol. Even if they improve loads I think they will still be considerably behind a 50cc petrol saw in power to weight ratio and run time. Still batteries are better now for certain tools & job situations but not atm to generally replace petrol.
