Same here I have tried some & it hates waterlogged clay . & for some reason no chesnut coppices in the north either maybe doesn't like colder weather not sure as see some SC trees doing fine & thriving, on "better" soils. So i think it would do fine in the north generallly but just on different soil.

Think the oregon type design or a homemade version the same from wood is better just chuck a whole pile in an then cut all at once. Why cut one at a time? Good for a load of thin branches etc

Nice work shame its from hazel not chesnut though for durability...... I did a continious weave fence from hazel id planted lasted about 3yrs but had the bark still on, I think bark traps moisture & makes it rot faster. The stripped stuff may last abit longer.... Chesnut pailing on the other hand has lasted well over a decade.

I got a merino "cycling top" from lidl a few yrs ago its really good, is the same design as the first item was £20 wish id bought 10 of them. I don't wear it often as don't want it to get wrecked as its so nice to wear and a new version or eqivalent item isn't cheap. I see the top is machine wash which is good as some wool & wool blend stuff is hand wash etc which is a pita. Alot of quality workwear is fashion brand prices which is a shame. My favourite jacket I have is a javlin type fibre pile jacket of a type no one makes anymore from the now defunct welsh company Brennig. I have noticed some axes will rust fast while others hardly at all must be different steels. For a splitting maul I don't think sharpness is that important but the the right blade profile is, whereas for a felling axe both sharpness & blade profile is important. I don't think there are many vintage axes & UK axes about that are designed as cleaving or splitting mauls/axes like the bruk maul? Maybe they weren't a common thing until more recently but im not sure why as so many different axe head patterns etc in the old catalogues....? Litters a good point. I expect untidy verges do encourage people to litter & flytip more. Makes a real mess when a verge of long grass is then cut, and all the accumulated litter is shredded into little bits.

They have got slightly better in some places in the last few yrs mowing less. The dual carriage way here they now leave some bits long & cut and bail the grass on the wider verges where the flyovers are. The job strimming along miles after mile round each individual steel central divider post must be abit soul destroying.
