  1. I don't get why you use briquettes also as are they not more expensive? Are they more like coal so you don't have to feed fire so often? Id think hornbeam would burn just as long as a briquette? Romania seem to have a lot more forest area than he UK thus I assume its a lot cheaper to get firewood. Some Softwood is always handy also to get a fire going fast,
  2. Did you see this chipper that look similar? Tracked Bio-Shredder with Combustion Engine CIP 120-S CINGO - Zanon WWW.ZANON.IT The CIP 120-S CINGO allows shredding different types of material such as branches and foliage, reducing the volume of waste by 5/6 times. Not sure if they are really made in Italy as claimed as they seems too cheap? Re badged Chinese? Also there is a Ukrainian branch logger one if chip size isn't important
  3. To actually replace 3 mature oak trees would be near impossible or be a 7 figure sum i reckon. (I am guessing on a minimum of say 50yrs old in age as the definition of mature for oaks) Kind of thing is best left to billionaires, Tree makes sea voyage for Georgia park project WWW.BBC.CO.UK Enormous tulip tree uprooted and moved to billionaire ex-prime minister's new park. Maybe they left the stumps and they will sprout like the sycamore gap tree?
  4. Stake looks like it needs removing and & having slate round trees isn't a good idea in general imo. If you really want to max out the crop remove the slate add a mulch round base and through pruning or pegging them down try and get the branches spaced out & make them more horizontal or at least 45 degrees as your tree looks to have a lot of vertical branches which tends to fruit less. Poor blossom but a good crop kind of sounds odd to me as to get a good crop you need good blossom. Also what compatible pollination partner apple trees are growing nearby may also affect fruiting. On a side note that staking pic in the RHS book isn't best practice imo better to do like in the photo below. I think if a stake is attached lower down a trunk as trees develop roots better with some trunk movement is its beneficial imo for root growth . My rule of thumb is attach a stake no higher than 2/3 up a trunk from ground to crown base often lower, RHS book pic looks too high and restrictive and not ideal also staking diagonally avoids the root ball. Also the rootstock type combined with apple variety with govern overall tree max size/vigor and its growth habit and how to approach on any pruning. From the picture looks to be on fairly vigorous root stock size hence the growth..

  18. Balsam is very easy to remove and bonus is the viable seedbank doesn't last very long Only problem is not good is its seeding from next door etc
  19. Why not just cut down then mow over it as part of the lawn with no digging spraying if its in the middle of a lawn? Or does that not work on bamboo? My thinking it would eventually die after a few yrs etc but ive never tried it. As bamboo is a grass maybe mowing is not effective as all grass species have basal growth from Intercalary Meristem? From my experience of mowing a nettles patch repeatedly it does kill them 100% with no hassle all - thought the dormant seedbank may last in soil for a few yrs...longer.
  20. Oval is stronger maybe Like airplane windows and port holes The jap axes are never wedged inline with blade orientation as it can break the weak point in the eye See the adze pic as well wedges are same way
  21. Ive made a few rustic shave horses same basic design as in this pic.. Didn't have any plans I just copied from seeing others and from pictures. The seat in this deign needs to be chunky - enough to take the middle wooden spindle (i used hazel rods for all dowls ans the legs ) - and make sure back legs splay out enough for stability. Other measurements I sized to suit me such as the legs height from the ground and seat total length.

But if going down the HS path dont chainsaws also need chain breaks? I can see why they added a guard as that top hand rest is exposed close to the chain, but its no good if you cant do undercuts... Take care if one handing etc. .
