  1. I have just bought a new makita corded one as my old makita model died recently after over 20yrs https://www.verkter.com/chainsaws/electric-chainsaws/chainsaw-makita-uc3050a-2-0-kw-30-cm-electric.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqqVKak4-tIw9-GsUPhdyagMmb4ju1GGsv8ECq0oM7ASJXRumx3 Was using it yesterday seemed to have more power then the old one & only uses about 1/4 as much chain oil. (The old electric motor had lost its power from new perhaps?) Also has captives nuts on clutch case and tesioner is on the on side rather than the front so two other improvments. Only thing I dislike is the safety trigger seems abit more annoying than the older model. Shopped abroad in eu as nowhere in UK was selling the models without the tooless clutch clovers...
  2. Squirrels?

    Resoling

Some fellow in pakistan/india etc woud do it for a few a quid at the side of the road but geting the shoes there might add abit....
  4. Im imagining this is 200 hectares in the PNW? 572xp 24inch bar with a semi skip chain
  5. Yes If you have any neigbours with a wood burner - someone might come cut it for no cost for the "free" logs but looks like it would need a decent sized saw so would be abit large for many such people to tackle.
  6. Trimming them will be fine it make them bush up. Why did you plant a hedge by another one? Will turn into an extra wide hedge thats harder to reach the top top trim & they will grow crooked towards the light Also the gravel - why?
  7. Yes stacked or loose also........ 1m3 stacked is approx 1.6 m3 volume loose
  8. The water pipes used at vindolanda were alder logs http://www.thehistoryblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Wood-water-pipes-Vindolanda.jpg Also used for cranogs and to build Venice on & clogs.
  9. Id pollard it at 5ft
  10. Just use a chainsaw or brushcutter with blade if theres brambles or use some loppers near the wire etc to cut stuff free. Old branches etc are nearly always dry enough to burn and once the fire gets going even green freshly cut stuff & wet stuff will burn also.
  11. 4 x 6m isnt very big at all to move don't be so lazy imo.... Id start a small fire and drag it from the large pile would be all gone in a fews hrs if its all dry.
  12. Thanks for the list as I couldn't find any info online about resistant species.. only the ones they eat I bet eucs are resistant also maybe? How about the conifers with thicker bark.....like cedars As for apples seem some in a garden where RED sqirrels have ring barked them.... Management of grey squirrels - Forest Research WWW.FORESTRESEARCH.GOV.UK Develop cost effective methods of managing grey squirrels. Investigate the impact of grey squirrels on woodland... From above Might also explain some of the snapped off spruce i noticed I assumed it was just the wind.....
  13. Any corky wings ? Most elms I see have corky wings.
  14. Yes that might explain the time scale also Whats the biggest tree you can fell with a ms181 with a 14" bar for a challenge kind of thing...? ^slight exaggeration
  15. Whats with all the chainsaw carving on the monolith? It all looks abit like picassos cubism period Someone must of spent a day doing that maybe?
  16. Well that would be nice in an ideal world but seems like pissing in the wind esp with the atittude of most landowners.
  17. Do you have a list of what useful species of trees they don't like to eat?
  18. We had a whole long avenue of dead elms kept my dad busy for yrs with his 08s.
  19. Muntjac & roe browsing are not very good if you want the trees to regenerate well.... Maybe it was an old coppice with with some standards from the one picture?
  20. Im pretty sure his MAGA lot with see it as a Trump win in the short term anyway...
  21. Tarrifs dropped for now anyway since both Mexico & Canada seem to have bent over for Trump & given in to his demands...a win for Trump? https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/02/03/mexico-tariff-retaliation-trump/ Im not sure that it will be very effective in stopping fentanyl, probably just be a waste of money.... Next, will China will back down in a similar fashion? I doubt it....
  22. On the subjest of taxes/VAT and tariffs how about the new UK free ports eco zones im wondering will they actually come to much? I don't think Holyhead Island for example is gonna transform into HongKong....but the hope seems to be they will attract some investments& jobs......
  23. Id cover the top as minimum if it was mine esp the popular which isn't very duarable but your location might be a factor to consider. Leylandi larch pine etc can last well outside, while other conifers esp spruce degrades alot faster 3000mm rain versus 600mm for example.....
  24. Umarell - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Umarell (Italian spelling of the Bolognese Emilian word umarèl, Emilian pronunciation: [umaˈrɛːl]; plural umarî) are men of retirement age who spend their time watching construction sites, especially roadworks – stereotypically with hands clasped behind their back and offering unwanted advice to the workers.
