  2. Looks a beech hedge with a hawthorn and some cherry trees. Leaders left to grow into trees, not a good idea as unless you either want to them develop into either a higher hedge or a line of trees instead of a hedge as they will shade bottom and make the hedge thin if left as trees You can trim the beech and hawthorn now . Leave pruning any lower branches on the cherry trees till summer due to silver leaf risk. Maximizing light will thicken the base of the hedge up, having to many trees above overhanging etc isn't good due to excess shade, also keeping the hegde trimmed in future will be easier if the lower cherry tree branches are kept clear of hedge top. Remove old fence unless its needed stopping stock etc and keep grass cut on both sides along base (without barking trunks) as that will thicken base gaps up as long grass in summer probably shaded the base....

  7. I have the wolfgarden pole with the blade & loppers attachments aint the same as the zubat in cutting though but decent quality Also have a samurai one that cuts better than the wolf & that fits on a diy handle pole handle PC Series – TAKAEDA - Samurai Saws WWW.SAMURAISAWS.CO.UK A truly versatile product. Add an extendable, 25mm diameter, pole and you have a high-quality pole saw featuring a top... Seems more flex between blade and the hande though comapred to the wolf.

  9. Jusr re reading this says beech were done every10 - 15yrs by the basques https://www.ancienttreeforum.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/A-study-of-practical-pollarding-techniques-in-northern.pdf Thought I had read 20yrs somewhere was the traditional rotation. So 10-15yrs sounds good
  10. Unusual to see pollards in such location. Would be nice to maintain them as pollards on say a 20yrs rotation. Would be cool to have more pollards as street trees.
  11. Do you buy wood in ?
  12. EDIT sorry read your post wrong 😏 Works about £62 per m3 and £31 m3 UK sold by m3 is around £100
  13. Made one Ash with climbing rose legs
  14. How much do you charge per bush cord?
  15. Pottery mugs were ok for several 1000's of yrs till people decided it was necessary in the last few decades or so have too walk down street carrying a cofee cup. Same with people that walk everywhere clutching a plastic mineral water bottle which i find odd. Don't really see the need for either plastic or paper mugs. If people want to they should just have to bring there own mug, and cafes have proper mugs that are nicer to drink from anyway.
  16. Being using that arbor knot on hazel bundles after reading this thanks.

Rainfall varies alot and wind. Average is around 1400mm here North Wales but last few yrs being wetter than average. I tried doing beech logs in a similar way, Made circles of sheep netting ontop of pallets open sides with a tarp on top and it started rotting. I reckon germans must have different climate for there Holz Hausen to work.

Depends how wet your local climate is but would be not be that good here ( gales and sideways rain half the yr ) but might be ok-ish where you are.

    Retention?

Seen a big scots pine last for yrs with similar branch torn off with no ill effects and zero intervention Maybe certain conifers are better at compartmentalization of decay than many other species?
  23. Also willow lime and popular fairly common trees but less good as firewood, And used to be elm was very common before they got wiped out from dutch elm disease. Ash in danger also now...from ash dieback as its all over the UK.
