  1. I have a japa 370 PTO & a derv Japa 300. If im processing for the day I use the 370 on the tractor, loading deck, digger with grab & forklift, power infeed and stick the bigger 12ft lengths through. If im pottering for a hour and have some managable size timber ill use the 300. Its not as quick but it ready to work with a turn of a key. It manages to cut upto 12" stuff, anything bigger you can ring up with chainsaw & hand load into splitter. may need a couple of passes but can fit fair chunks in. the 305 is a newer version of mine and has many upgrades on it. I would have purchased 1 however dont do a deisel version anymore fuel costs will rocket for me.
  2. Hi all, 1st time on the climbing section, been on the firewood section for yrs. I have my own small woodland that I manage. Been thinning it out gradually. Putting some holiday lets up soon. Some of the oaks & ash have dead limbs that need chopping off. These trees are maybe 12"-18" wide, 20m tall and the branches are quite low maybe 5-10m up and limbs upto say 4" wide. I was wondering if it was wise or not for me to have a go at climbing & pruning. If so what practicle advise & basic equipment would I need?
  3. I currently process ash logs into ibc cages, put lids on them. Leave for a season then handball into bulk bags upto a couple of week before delivery. Its takes just as long to bag up as it does to process plus alot on moving etc. Most round here process into barns etc. whats advantages & disadvantages to barn stored as may save alot of time?
  4. Wise words. I've stopped evening and weekend deliveries. I used to del whenever the cust asked. Now I just say weekdays only and can leave wherever they request. Works so much better and not lost any customers. I only generally stack when I feel like im helping the customer eg old or disabled. My biggest problem is Im too soft, always going above and beyond and gets you knowhere im afraid. Im streamlining this year, only doing very local deliveries from now on.
  5. thanks guys. spud I think you need to het out more often knowing that info haha. only joking, appreciate it. Need to get some bits ordered and look forward to trying it.
  6. it has a decompression button and starts a treat. When i forgot to press the button and bounce started it I got a shock haha. Just fixing up my 084 so best not forget the decomp button an that 1 ?
  7. any bars or chains left? Im just building a roller tracked chainsaw mill, have a 084 just need a bar & chain.
  8. Hi, can you tell me if this is a 064? Serial 149465316. Im only guessing but not sure. Ive just dragged it out my shed, been stood at least 5 years for me and alot more prior as purchased as spares/repair with bits missing. I emptied old fuel, stuck some fresh fuel in, a few pulls and runs very well. All others I dug out needed a good carb clean. It needs quite a few bits as some missing. eg bar, chain, chain adjuster, brake lever assembly, back cover, 1 dog etc. I'll prob try a chain/bar off another saw. Is it worth fixing up just as a firewood toy?
  9. At first i thought this was a good idea then within 2 seconds decided its a death trap. with a few safety tweeks it could be good. as it is if you trip or slip like you do when theres round bits on the floor and you go flying you could easily loose a arm or head.
  10. I think theres a artic load (25t) and a bit in that pic.
  11. My local haulier takes my timber. I dont have to sell or market it. Phone him up, collects within days and thats it. I get £55 ton for ash, £44 spruce. I dont even have to be on site. All processor size generally with occational larger ones. He offers the price, seems fair to me. The ash goes to a local firewood company, not sure where spruce goes but think goes to chip.
  12. or just fell it & sell as is. fook 24 achres is a lifetime supply of kindling. last load of softwood I got £44 ton selling to local haulure who i think sold to powerstation. or do a mixture of both.
  13. I love to burn spruce, burns really hot and no spitting. Prefer it over ash.
  14. I've just felled a few artics worth of Ash & spruce in 12ft lengths. Whats the going rate ex works processor compatible <15inch roadside? also have some ash 15-20" based in north yorks. just after a guide price to ask for it. Ta in advance.
  15. I can usually get good used once ibcs pretty cheap, its the transport that kills it. I take barrel out, cut it diagonally and use as a pitched roof for my log cages. If anyone wants any located just off A19 near thirsk north yorks.
  16. Located North Yorks, Thanks Defender. Local haulier offered £55 ton for Ash roadside which seems reasonable from past experiences. Just like to keep up with prices as another guy offered £22 a ton a while back which I declined ?.
  17. selling 1 load to a local guy as a 1 off.
  18. Whats a rough going rate for a full artic of processable Ash roadside? Good access, 12ft lengths, processor size and been down about 18months. Ta
  19. I dont like vented bags, last lot of green ones are a year old and seems like the UV has got to them and are just ripping on the sides on their own. They also expand a fair bit. I transplanted a vented bag into a standard bag, both supposed to be the same sise and had 1/4 bag left in the vented when std bag was full. I process into ibc cages now and hard ball into bags a week before delivering as also found bagging sesoned logs into std bags made them go mouldy after a few weeks.
  20. Who says I dont? I just said it was a derv engine, obviosly I use red derv.
  21. yes mine is derv, a tank lasts a day lol. Thats why I bought it, petrol is twice the price and uses twice as much. Its a bit noisy but does the job. I also have a PTO drive Japa 370. bars are cheap for the 300 and last ages, I dont have a spare as get plently of notice before I need to change it. Im no expert but think you would need to check your flow rate for the processor & tractor, then decide if you could run off the attachment hydraulics or need a pto pump but its all do-able.
  22. Mine was originally from a local supermarket I aquired ?, however can be purchased easily online for about £20. The things I also like, I can load with 2 hands, not 1 like holding a bag open. It doesnt get a wet/mucky underside when loading. Its ventilated. I wheel it most of the way through doors then carry it using handle last few yards. It holds just right amount for 2 evenings use.
  23. I have a Japa 300 derv processor. No not a stihl bar, a husky bar. it uses a 13" bar, chain is 0.325" 56link, 1.3mm groove. Husky fitment and holes line up etc. Fuelwood sell the bars for about £20 & £10 for a chain and will give correct gear. Or local husky places should have them. If you need any more info I'll have a look at my bars etc.
  24. I got bored of humping bags of logs from my store to the stove. I put too many in the log bag, bashed doors/walls etc plus hurt my back. Now I use a hard supermarket type basket that has wheels, a handle & a telescopic handle. Just load, wheel it next to the fire, simples.
  25. about 400kg for log contents. I get 2 bags of logs to a IBC that weigh 200kg each.
