  1. its a washing machine drum. a coil of copper pipe from screwfix. all in at about £30. on a summers day, takes all day to get upto 38deg C maybe however on the evening maybe 36ish and falls slightly. MK11 will be improved by insulating the bottom/sides, twice as long copper coil and raise the bottom up as a tad too deep which will then mean less water so will easily be a sustained 40+ deg and heat up significantly faster. no pumps just thermal siphon i think its called. works great.
  2. I am after 1 also for a 4.5 ton digger if anyone has one or reccomend anywhere.
  3. I cut mine diagonal and put 1 roof (1/2 ibc) and double stack & cabletie down. Work great. the rest cut into squares and use for all sorts eg roof/wall sheets or slot into 1 old ibc and scrap (less volume). I made a couple of IBC hot tubs for giggles and work well.
  4. Im lost in the calculations. So basically anything my stihl moisture meter says is 25% or less is ok to sell. So I can carry a peice of paper to explain the differences etc if a customer asks which in essence explains why its ok to have 25% reading on general moisture meters when the rules say 20%. The letter can explain everything and calculations to prove im not winding them up. Sorted. Spanner in the works. My own felled timber is always dry throughout however I've just bought in some kiln dried oak, 0% dry moisture on the outside and 30% in the middle. Average would be below 25% at a guess but what are the rules on this?
  5. I have 1 pair of stihl tongs, always use them, think they are great for general log lifting and for dragging logs into the processor if needed. These have lasted years and not tried others. Carnt fault them just myself, still dont have the knack of releasing them easily as would like.
  6. I have a japa 370 PTO with 15" cut and a Japa 300 (old 305 version) that cuts 12" I believe. Hands down the 370 is twice as fast if not faster and more powerful. That said it needs a tractor to power, log deck, digger & grab to load plus a fork lift to remove full crates to get full potential. The smaller one is self sufficient, 1 man, road tow and i like using it on hand ball size logs. can move to the log pile, move as timber pile is used up, also move as split pile/crates fill up. Slower but good enough and less resourses required. If I get anything too big for it I can ring with a chainsaw and manually put in splitter part and chisel in down to fit. The 305 is a good machine but thirsty, and might not be the fastest or most powerful however it may be the best alrounder for your tasks. Even if you added a cheap splitter you could power if off the processor and your covered for larger stuff too.
  7. I have a 084 & 064. Both spare. I asked rob at chiansawbars which he suggests is best for milling with a 42" bar. Rob says use the 064 on lopro as just as fast as the 084 on a 404 chain. Im no expert so going to give it a go, bar arrived the other day.
  8. You seem like a really nice guy however with the qty your cutting/splitting you really need a better setup. Working on the ground with a slow splitter is not great. Here in the uk we cut logs shorter & thinner, average length would be 9 or 10" and max width upto say what would fit in 1 hand so 6". We also generally process hardwood. A processor may be a investment worth having, at worst a faster & better splitter.
  9. maybe get the inner of a ibc. cut top & bottom off. if the wrong size just cut the sides, overlap and rivet/screw back together. A pre formed tough insert, would also be tough enough to make handles etc.
  10. see my replies above. If you have any let me know and we can discuss.
  11. I did put a post up a while ago and no responce, I have my own woodland but no dry timber, I have rung everywhere I know and no ready to burn firewood anywhere. If you have any I would gladly buy whatever is for sale. If not then I will import. So any help of anyone would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Hi all, Im out of firewood like most are, theres none to be purchased in the UK that I've found. I have bought a few pallets of kiln dried from Saurida and they seem fine however paid full retail for them. I am looking into importing a lorry load from Saurida directly. Does anyone have any references? also whats the process and costs for importing? I've never imported before so have no idea im afraid. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  13. Sounds like you have a tough year ahead of you. Instead of renting machines think about getting a company in who brings their own processors & men etc and they will demolish through what you need within a week, some arnt as expensive as you think. Or price up a artic load of pre cut/split logs loose. If not good look and look after you back.
  14. I've had a few styles of vented bags, all crap after a couple of years. Also stretch too much for me. They are a good idea but not practicle for me. I use IBC cages with lids. Works well but need to speed up emptying them as we currently cut a hole at the bottom & hand ball. Vented bags or IBC cages are the best cost effective for this style of storage, some use pottato boxes. If you wanted flat pack but expensive you could use army gabian baskets.
  15. I have all the equipment and still works out cheaper to hire a propper team in to do it for you. Or look at a small processor such as a Japa 300 or 305. I have a derv 300 and like it. It wont cut over 12" however use a manual chainsaw to cut & chuck into processor spliting bay & chisel it down.
  16. thank you guys. just what i need. i'll start with what you say and wind out accordingly to richen her up. yes i have a tach. i searched for ages and only came up with info with limiters fitted. I shall give it a go and go from there.
  17. Hi all, has anyone got any MS390 base carb settings without limiters. I purchased it years ago pretty beat up, just getting it sorted now. Carbs been stripped & cleaned, all jets & ports etc. Fresh fuel. Its fires up ok and wont rev when blip throttle, then dies. Ive messed with carb settings a bit but makes it worse. L is wound out 3 full turns & H 6 full turns. carnt find any base settings on the net which are not limited. Want to get back to standard and go from there. ta
  18. How about a mixture of ibc cages and heras fences. Use some of the full cages to prop up the fences. Or use cages as a outside wall and infill. Where are you based? I have access to reasonably cheap ibcs but transport usually kills it.
  19. I just light a fire with dry kindling then chuck wet logs in, soon dry out lol. dry in the middles thats what counts.
  20. vented bags will probably be great for personal use. Down sides are they stretch, not a problem for you. They also dont like sunlight and after a year or 2 will become weak and rip easily.
  21. I tried storing bulk bags of seasoned logs back end of summer, stored for a few months ready for winter. Most of them went mouldy at the bottom. Never has a issue with rats and we have alot of rats. I tried vented bags and were fine however they stretch so giving more wood away. I just process into ibc cages, store to dry out then bag up prior to delivery. This way is a pain in the ass however can take all the birds nests, wasps, carcases, shit & sub standard timber out. only top qualitys logs are then delivered to customers. I need to speed this process up as spend all my time hand bagging up in winter.
  22. For the 1st time I've nearly ran out of firewood. Has anyone got any good ready to burn hardwood for collection/delivery Nr Boroughbridge, in North Yorkshire? Or large crates they can deliver? Its to tie me over to keep my customers happy. Wanting anything upto 20m2 per month or anything you can spare. Thanks in advance.

  24. If I had my time over again I would not start a firewood business. I own my own woodland, own machinery, have some good local customers however find it a struggle to make it pay. Im self employed and do a have a couple of jobs. I only do 1 full day a week plus a few hrs here & there for deliveries. I sell approx 150bulk bags a year. I own a delivery truck with crane, processors, dumpers, tractors, diggers with grabs, fork lifts, buildings, etc etc. I employ a lad a day a week, insurances to pay etc. Im lucky if I make any money in all fairness as I keep buying more machinery. I do like doing it tho. My advice would be do it as a sideline with equipment you have and earn some good beer tokens out of it. Then grow it slowly and see where it takes you.
  25. For the 1st time ive nearly ran out of firewood to sell. We usually fell our own trees for firewood sales, sold alot more than usual this season. I need to buy in some ready to burn hard firewood to keep current customers happy, dont want to say I've ran out. Whats the going rate for ready to burn wholesale firewood if I collected say? I have a couple of options just want a guide price people sell to trade for. Thanks in advance.
