  1. Thank you for your advise, I never got to the bottom of this. Been using my spare processor as 370 did my head in. So basically yours was cutting diagonal and wearing the bar out fast? So the Oregon Control Cut bar & chain helped? or just the bar? Any details greatly appreciated.
  2. Hi, I process firewood into IBCs ready for drying, thats straight forward. I have a problem unloading IBCs into bulk bags, how do you do yours? after some ideas. Currently I have a decent size hole in the bottom side of the IBC, lift above bag, tilt IBC and hand ball out into a open bag. Not liking this method as labour intensive and I prefer to bag a couple of days prior to deliverying to stop mould. Had a few mould problems last yr as some bag stock got mouldy. Im liking the idea of tipping cages into a conveyor hopper and bag using a conveyor as seems more controllable. or possibly tip ibcs into a tipping trailer thats at the right height and funnel the end. Also need ideas on how to tip the logs out of the cages. how do you do yours? after some ideas.
  3. Ive just sold some spruce to a haulier. He offered £44 ton. 1st load was well seasoned for 3+ years and didnt weigh alot. 2nd load had 1/2 fresh and 1/2 well seasoned and got 28ton. Ive also been offered £47 a ton roadside of a few people. For comparison haulier also offered me £55 ton for fresh ash so think hes a bit low on his prices. Hes hastle free to be fair and has to make a living.
  4. Thanks for the advise. I agreed to loan the mill, once I have it setup and running, the seller will run me through it etc. Sods law the same day I agreed to loan the mill, I sold a artic load of softwood and they took all my large spruce, sighh (loaded when I wasnt there). All my large ash was taken last week grrr. Ahh well. I may as well by the sounds of it try & trade my ash/spruce for some better sizes & breeds. Or sell mine to pay for more fit for purpose grades. If I decided to just waney edge my timber for fences etc. Is spruce or ash worth treating & what with? ta
  5. I have loads of 1 use ibcs, very clean. metal/platic bottoms, £15 each collected. Based in Dalton, North Yorkshire.
  6. A friend of mine is selling a Lumbermate 2000 for £3500, its electric start, 30hp engine, 30" cut, 13ft extended bed, trailered, not done much work, left undercover outside. Hes a gamekeeper and milled his own wood for animal pens, fences etc. My question is I own a woodland and have plenty of felled Spruce and Ash, not big diameters but some reasonable 12" - 24". Over the next few years I am building some holiday lodges, building fences, buildings to clad, furnature to make and general timber requirements. Would it be worth my while in buying a saw and using the timber I have? any advise welcomed.
  7. I spoke to David last year, nice guy however a bit cheeky with his prices, offer £22 ton for seasoned softwood & £35 ton for the seasoned ash. Was'nt worth selling for that. He's only 2 miles down the road too.
  8. I dont currently have any Ash I want to sell however may change my plan and cut some down as the interest seems to be there. Not many people have posted current prices tho. I have just sold a artic load of well seasoned spruce for £44 ton roadside, is this good or bad?
  9. Ahhh I get you, im not sure. I am cutting longer & heavier lengths than I used to so its possible the extra weight is making the difference. I'll check it out. Thanks for the pointer
  10. no, feed belt pushes timber to the length stop. then belt stops. bar is pulled down, chain starts, then cuts. Belt does not start again untill I make it start.
  11. Haha, that made me laugh. Even funnier than a misstype, I am a Firefighter too haha.
  12. I mainly burn Spruce, I really rate it. I only mainly have spruce & ash in my woodland and prefer to bun spruce. Gives out loads of heat, burns quite long, light to carry into house, easy to process, no need for kindling just a firefighter. Just need to convince my customers to buy it lol.
  13. Whats the current prices please. I have some seasoned and fresh felled processor friendly ash in 12ft lengths, I also have some very dry processor friendly spruce in 10ft lengths. I was wondering what its worth if I sell any. Just debating to keep or sell as I sell logs part time. Im located in North Yorkshire, 5 miles from the A1 nr Boroughbridge, good roadside access.
  14. I never James, I was going to buy a expensive bar to try then decided just to buy the cheapest ebay bars for £14 delivered. Dont last long but are cheap.
  15. Hi Logstore, are you still after some softwood? I have alot of that size, very dry spruce in 10ft lengths and not for from you.
  16. yes both 1.5mm & matched. oregon 158SLGK095 bar & 21LP (34LG) oregon full chisel chain. I will get my verniers and measure them both to double check.
  17. yes a barrel full of concrete lol. normally tractors lift more than spec just tip over, mine just doesnt lift it nor tip.
  18. interesting, its deffo a oregan bar & oregan chain and just phoned my supplier up and they only supply full chissel chains. Would you guys reccomend a semi chissel over a full on a processor? & why?
  19. I have a Japa 370 processor. I fitted a new chain & oregon pro-light 158SLGK095 bar not long ago. Cut about 20 m3, never sharpened chain and bar had worn badly, chain slops about and not cut straight. Turned bar over and perfect agian. sharpened chain & done another 15-20m3 and bars worn again. it doesnt seem to be cutting perfectly straight so measure the angle and only out a degree or so. I canrt see how to get it true again. Ive never had a problem in the past tho. Its lubing correctly just wearing the bar groove out so chain does not sit square. if i cut on the tip its perfect. Can anyone reccomend anything or recomend a harder wearing bar?
  20. new tractor spec is 400kg front forks limit. was told would easily lift a cage of logs hmmm. thats eaxactly what im looking for really. Then also going to make a 3 point linkage attachment for the back of my 4 ton dumper
  21. Hi, does anyone know what the weight would be of a steel IBC cage full of split Ash (9"). Both green & seasoned. Just purchased a new compact 30hp tractor with front loader expecting it to be fine and it wont lift them.
  22. Are you still after some timber, Im based near easingwold. I can supply seasoned ash in 5ft lengths, 10ft or 12ft. different diameters. Or I can supply spruce the same (my preference for my log burner). Or I can cut & split. What qty and size do you prefer if your not already sorted?
  23. If its as cheap and as light as 2 builders trestles then Im interested. All the purpose built ones I've seen are too heavy & expensive. eg fuelwoods ones.
  24. I would message the seller, and get them on board. I think its the sellers responsibility until the goods have been recieved by the customer so technically its the sellers problem but in real life they have dove everything they can so not there fault however there responsibility. Put a ebay dispute on for the item not received, this will then lead to as PayPal refund. Its not Paypals fault however there fees cover buyers protection which sounds like it needs to be used.
  25. My planning application had the one with the balcony on it using round real logs. 3 years in the planning and I was addement on a real log cabin however Im Swaying for the Cedar Clad modern style timber frame now but with a covered decked area & balcony so a bit of both. Great point with reference to your comments on hiding the 1st & 2nd fix on the timber frame. I will however build a propper log cabin on a smaller scale myself, as been a childhood dream. Keep the comments comming. Then to find someone to build it
