  1. I have 4 types depending on use. Really thin for mechanicing & dexterity (dont last long), general heavy duty for yard work, thermal ones if really cold & leather easy to put on/off for deliveries. To be fair I've tried most and never found any that last long. Only pair that have lasted are the blue kevlar ones but a little stiff.
  2. Has anyone ever used a Hydraulic pump to power a PTO? for lower powered items eg pto saw or trailer conveyor?
  3. work out the square down the middle, then work out the triagles on either side. or tip it on its back, put a tarp/sheet inside, fill with water and either measure the water in litres or weigh it. 1ltr = 1kg.
  4. How does your business source artics of roundwood/cordwood for processing? I have a firewood business and woodland. We stopped felling our own trees and just bought in processed firewood. Been let down badly by 3 companies in the past couple of years. I want to go back to being in control of my own destiny and buy in artics of roundwood to process & season ourselves. Ive exhausted my contacts and need help on how to purchase artics of roundwood/cordwood for processing?
  5. 200kg is pretty accurate if seasoned ash. can easily range from 200-250kg depending on moisture content, length, species, how full the bag is, if the bags stretch. So many variables. i bought a hanging scale so can easily check weights if needed however I know my logs generally weigh 200kg a bag not to overload my van nor hiab.
  6. What size log store or capacity do you need? does it need to look nice like a customer log store or more functional & cheap? If functional use a IBC with a side cut out that can be clipped back in at full & 1/2 height. Then a lid. Simple, cheap, throw logs in rather than stack. Have as many as you need, stack em & move em.
  7. Hi all, how long to season Ash & at what point is it fit to burn? Im running short of firewood as have a fair amount of Ash thats about 30% moisture inside, 15-20% outside. Plus some damper stuff. Its stored outside it top covered cages. Any rough idea how long in the uk winter it will take to dry out before it can be burnt? Also forget the rules, at what point is ash ok to burn from? Thanks in advance.
  8. I have a hiab to drop bulk bags on the floor, if need be I use this dolly 600x400mm to cart anywhere thats fairly flat. works on most surfaces apart from gravel. I think toolstation sell one similar. needs to be fairly small or makes harder to get out. this dolly is easy to pull out. works great for me on my own. If you used bigger wheels would go over more rough ground, larger board would make more stable however harder to pull out.
  9. Anyone used a JB C4 A100 head. These are in stock and seem reasonable @ £2690 + vat includes custom head, hammer flail, self leveler & hoses. I was initially looking at approved hydraulics Femec T5 105 with hammers however 3 week lead time @ £3211 plus head @ £200 and no self leveler (additional £300). The Robustrack I believe is a Femec and same price & setup as Approved Hydraulics. Its only really to be used by myself on flat woodland light brash & small amounts of banking grass. Is a self leveler a good option? Also is it better without a roller so can swing in both direction?
  10. Im in the market for a 4.5ton digger flail head. I have a Hitachi ex45-2, spec sheet says 88lpm but thinks shes down on lpm as getting old now. Its for my own use in a woodland for light ground clearance eg brambles, balsam & brash. plus a bit of headge cutting. I understand the limitations & potential. Will only be used a few hrs a month. Can anyone reccomend a model & supplier? also what size head would people suggest? thanks in advance.
  11. Im after wholesale hardwood firewood, about 100-150 bags worth initially ongoing. Also a wagon load of processor grade ash. Based just off A1 Boroughbridge, north yorks. Ive been let down by countless companies that have delayed and backworded thus left me in a pickle. Failing this Im going to start importing. Any help appreciated.
  12. I got £44 ton for artic loads of spruce aug last year roadside. Was upto 12" at a guess and believe it went for chip.
  13. you could also just sell your oversize stock. 12-15" will fit on most peoples processor. 15" + I usually cut into rounds with chainsaw & chuck into my processor. Takes a couple of passes but nibbles it down. If really big I'll resort to chainsawing to rounds then using my splitter to put into processor size. Not perfect but makes use of them.
  14. appreciate your help. Im glad i asked. What if I chipped the majority and sold that on or used myself & stock piled the rest and let it compost?
  15. Im after advise. I own a woodland that I manage myself and sell firewood. We are turning the site into a holiday site for log cabins etc so want the trees as safe as possible. We have quite a few trees mainly oak & ash upto 15" that have dead lower branches upto 4" diameter. most trees are like lolipops. I was thinking about learning to climb & cut the occational limb. Is this advisable? also what courses would I need to do? Its only for use on my own land. I have used chainsaws for many years however dont have any tickets or formal training. thanks in advance.
  16. Im toying with the idea of doing small scale green waste removal for local people in the summer months. Basically anything that will rot, burn or be usefull eg rubble & soil. I get asked all the time plus allow gardening friends to dump their waste on my fire heap for beers. I have a large site, diggers, trailers, FLT, 3.5 ton truck with hiab isnt used in the summer. I was thinking drop them a dumpy bag, once full I can crane on and go. Charge by the bag. I wouldnt know where to start with pricing & legals etc. alot of waste carriers round here. Any help or experiences welcomed.
  17. I have a stihl 180, 290, 390, 064, 088 plus prob a few others lol. My goto is the 180 if carrying it about for odds n sods, if under 15" & on the ground or climing over stuff the 290. If all waist height say on a sawhorse etc i go 390.
  18. i may after a load if you have any spare. can send in a artic or if smaller qtys i can bring truck n trailer. im only over near boroughbridge. On a seperate note for the rest, i was getting £55 ton roadside this time last year however shot meself in the foot as now low on stock. Last time I let me father talk me into having a tidy up lol.
  19. Not for from you, Im in between easingwold & Boroughbridge. Yes give me a shout, I can collect myself or send a wagon in etc. Thank you everyone for your replied. I was thinking £65 m3 was reasonable and lets everyone make a few quid. When some companies want too much I think will force more importing which isnt good for anyone.
  20. thank you for your reply. That sounds more reasonable however 1 company quoted me £90 cube plus vat + del = £113 delivered (kiln dried mixed HW). Im araid I carnt work on that.
  21. We are having a rethink this season. Instead of using out own woodland timber (running low plus a few issues). I am thinking about buying in about 50ton of firewood. Whats the going rate please for already processed green or seasoned? and anyone interesting in the north yorkshire area? The quotes I have had seem high too me, so if not reasonable I'll just buy in round lengths and process ourselves. Anyone got any of that? I can have collected. thanks in advance.
  22. Bit arse about tit. Just buy a crane for the back of a pickup & small skateboard/dolly 😆 Saying that I did think up a similar idea for inside a panel van then decided to go with the above lol.
  23. I sorted all my problems in the end by fitting a Sugihara Bar, all my problems disapeared. Bars been on a year or so now and still fine.
  24. Anyone any advise for a semi auto saw horse I can attach to a trailer and tow around my woodland collecting fallen branches and chop up. A petrol circular saw would have been ideal but too expensive. Ive seen this DIY design and like in principle but need to make safer & stronger. Prefer a off the shelf stand if possible as dont have much time at the mo. Any alternatives?
  25. Lol, wood i burn now doesnt usually smoke however MK11 is on a old caravan chassis so can push/tow anywhere
