I totally get the alkylate fuel alternate option for fuel in high performance stressed engines that are being damaged by the current shyte that passes for petrol. And while I can't disagree with the use of Aspen or the likes for your brand new saw is probably just about affordable. There is just no way that using it in outboards or most other 2T applications is even remotely an option, and to that end I can say that I've been using fuel stabilisers for about a decade now and have suffered zero of the problems that have plagued many others that I know. So the one I use mainly is Ethanol Shield but Briggs and Stratton Fuel fit also prevents degradation for much longer than they claim as I've experienced directly.. no need for draining down and no need to worry about carbs dissolving, give it a go it doesn't cost much.... and all the best for the coming year👍

Tuppence worth.. folk these days have no idea how to treat any mechanical device and because they're mostly uneducated in anything to do with the things around them in everyday life let alone an IC engine, they break things all the time due to complete ignorance. Personally, making sure the fuel is correct is equally as important warming an engine up properly prior to thrashing the tits oot of it, very few understand the importance of this simple action, imo.

Since the successful deployment of the JWST I expect all of science to be turned upside down.... and even then we'll probably get it all wrong. Is this the biggest derail of all time🙃 Anyway up my way that would be wood wasps... and a good new year to you and yours👍

I'm in the same boat replacing old kit, previously Makita.. but after a few purchases of corded Metabo, I decided to try some of they're battery stuff and so far I'm not disappointed, but time will tell.. Having said that when it comes to plugged in tools Dewalt have the most solid, imo.

Thanks, I'll hang on then🙄 I'd no sooner bought the 200 when the 220 appeared, that said it didn't cost much to upgrade the sprocket bar and chain.. a little less power in the motor apparently... but still a different saw altogether on 3/8".

As an insider so to speak do you have direct info on another level of battery in the pipeline which would be worth hanging on for? cheers

Yep, I meant 300S and as a 2nd battery I have my eye on a 500S👍

Hi, I bought a Stihl battery saw a few years ago and really like it and it's had fairly heavy use and has become my main firewood / maintenance saw, having said that I'm not a pro user. I originally bought the msa 200 with the micro picco 1/4" bar and chain which I really didn't like, luckily I was able to convert it to 3/8" full chiz quite cheaply. ... so fwiw I can recommend the msa 220 with the AP300 or 500 battery although as you say the price has recently become rather eye watering. cheers.

I can kind of identify with that attitude although my story is very different as my mum's 93 and now in a home and my 2 sisters and me have just cleared her house.. nearly everything she held precious ended up in the dump as it had little value to anyone but her. She was obsessed with the [ dysfunctional ] family tree and which tbo I've no interest in, particularly as it was recorded in a very similar fashion to the covid stats in that the whole female line going back hundreds of years was totally unrecorded... which to me renders half of the story totally worthless, incompletable and untraceable.. as is probably most folks. Therefore I'm glad not to be burdened with the speculative distant past, and I only look forward.. not that I like wot I see😄 All the best to you and yours for the coming year👍

What ever it is, rotten wood will never burn well as most the calories have been consumed by the fungi, and if burnt it will probably smell bad as well, once the fungi gets a hold it's unstoppable imo, sorry to say... cheers.

My neighbour stacked a couple of cubes of split wood { birch ] in a large double garage against my advice, it did eventually get to the point where it could be burned after a couple of years but it got very mouldy and some which was against the wall had started to rot, so not really a good idea imo.

It's convenient, and to me convenience is the thin end of a very thin wedge, if you ask the question 'can I be switched of remotely' the answer is absolutely not... and to me that the means just the opposite, but I may be wrong🙄.

Yep, perhaps this is the case to begin with but there really is no allowance for individual intellect or morals in todays corporate hostile to human life control of everything.. like they say it's ' for your own safety ' when they try to force something on you and are expected to think.. ' that's wonderful, thanks so much ' I micro manage my own affairs very well as I always have done, so I'm therefore very aware when others try to feck me over. Cheers.

To me this is only the start of the onslaught of severe tech overreach in our homes where private companies have the ability [ with government say so ] to monitor, control and ultimately cut off our energy supply from afar. I assume that I'm not the only one being badgered to take a ' smart ' meter with all the convenience and childish attributes that it comes with.. whereas in reality the whole push for these things is about control. The actual end game of this atm as far as I can tell, is to read the meter every 1/2 hour with constantly changing tariffs where we will be 'educated' via pricing to use energy when 'they' want us to.... ie the cheapest time to cook yer dinner or do the washing may be 3 in the morning ! As an individual growing up I always looked forward the the onset and application of the latest science and technology in the belief that it would improve life for everyone, but [ as it now turns out ] it seems that all that's actually happening is that any real innovation gets stifled and big tech is more and more able to have our short and curly's in a strangle hold.... whilst at the spewing out the message that it's for our own advantage or safety👎

+1 for planting a new tree asap and enjoy watching it grow, Birch grows quite fast. Bearing in mind the old adage that the best time to plant a new tree was 20 years ago😊
