  1. I'm going to start a thread about this stihl ts50 disc cutter I bought on eBay. I'm going to try to get it running, put a bar on it and cut some wood! And if I get really keen then I may try repainting it and restoring it properly. Going to keep a note of everything I spend on it too How it came £7.16
  2. Turned the dogs/ pawls round as they were worn on one side, put it back together and now they catch on the cup! It turns over, seems like plenty of compression I don't think it'll last long till they start slipping again tho. Managed to find a YouTube vid about a Fairbanks starter so cleaned it all and turned them round as suggested. Yes I bought this saw as a project to do in the evenings and I realise I may have to spend quite a bit of money on it but it'll keep me out of mischief and hopefully I'll end up with a working saw. I'm going to start a thread about it cos I want to keep all the pics and info in one place

    waders

I hate wearing waders and would rather go in the water with an old pair of boots and trousers and just get wet. Bit cold this time of year tho.
  4. I now know what a Fairbanks starter is. Just watched a you tub vid on how to fix 'em. Tomorrow going to clean all the wd40 of all parts and sharpen the dogs. Fingers crossed that works. Thanks for your help tonight Eddie, probly have more questions tomorow
  5. I've cleaned and rebuilt the starter mechanism but when I pull it over it just slips and won't turn the saw over, Is the cup worn out or the dogs?
  6. Hi Eddie, I see what you mean about the orange filter base. I think it's a ts 50 not a ts510 by looking at pics on internet and the exhaust is exposed on a ts 50 and covered on a ts 510 But I may be wrong and if I am correct me Thanks will
  7. I bought it like this and don't know how long it has been run like this if at all, I'm going to try and convert it to a chainsaw so going to need to get the right filters for it
  8. Yep, took out the plate and found the hole. Thanks eddie
  9. It's not a ts510 it's a ts 50 Does the worm gear go in behind the clutch ?
  10. Bought on eBay and picked it up I think it is a stihl 050 that has been converted into a disc cutter. Doesn't look like it's had much use. Never had oil in the tank, looks new inside. The starter wouldn't catch so not sure bout compression, but turned piston with flywheel and not seized. Not pulled muffler yet. I've got a couple of questions, what is this lever? Is it to adjust oil flow or is it to do with the disc cutter attachment? I know the old 050s had points but I think this is electronic ignition, do you think it's original? Can you tell if so? I would like to try to get it running and use it so any help is greatly appreciated
  11. There are some big ones in Arlington court near Barnstaple
  12. The bags are pretty good but the tags on the zips break real quicks so I put key rings on mine so I could pull them
  13. Good couple of pics of the kingfisher
  14. Good pics timon. So many different ideas on this thread, none wrong, it's just a question of what you want to achieve in the end really. Yes it's good for habitat, but if you do want it gone then sever it - never thought about doing it before crown break good idea! it reduces comp in the crown and wind sail but still leaves habitat but leaves habitat takes a bit longer as the tree has to be climbed and yes you would have to do this every year. Leave it to fall off naturally then all the bugs can find homes gradually.
  15. Nice dog chris, I want a lurcher when I move to a bigger house For now Betty will have to do!
  16. No one should be made to climb a tree covered in ivy, even if they want to! Horrid stuff! Put some pics of the trees up ti, then u may get some better advice. But I would just sever the ivy at the bottom and remove the first metre on the trunk. A small chainsaw and a claw hammer is what I use and I very rarely cut the bark
  17. Mum and dads a grand fir planted about 6 years ago Ours is is a dropless one too, cos it's plastic!
  18. No offence taken but I comes from North Devon and would Like to move back one day so all you foreigners bogger off cos I want to live There.
  19. Sometimes, most of the time just throwing yer rope and climbing the tree is quicker than a throwline any way so wy need a drone? More to go wrong!
  20. Yea gigot socks too
  21. What happens if you cook a horse chestnut and eat it?
  22. Ah don't worry, it's Christmas!
