  1. Who cares what it weighs? Just chain a skid plate on the thing and drag it up the bank, a twenty ton 360 will easily achieve that. Bob
  2. I feel they have betrayed me, this bit of stump has been here for two weeks with no takers. They took all the old fencing stakes, bits of sleeper and a load more Chestnut but left this Bob

  4. We have taken on a few over the years and normally someone from the school/college comes out to check the whole operation. They want to check things like no lone working, welfare arrangements , first aid facilities, and all the normal "wrap them in cotton wool" bull. Bob

  6. Choose a bank that still has branch managers and build up a decent rapport with him/her. If and when you need them its a lot a lot easier than banks that are run through faceless call centres. Bob
  7. Kevin`s on a roll Preventing work injuries, where do you start with this one ? I have witnessed a few accidents over the years and thankfully none have been fatalities. The tough bit is that in hindsight they were all 100% avoidable. I think aside of climbers taking lumps out of themselves with a tophandle or dropping chogs on the groundies most of the accidents involving ground staff occur when the guys are left without a team leader, uncoordinated and doing their own thing. Its a team effort , someone needs to be in charge and everyone really does need to be singing off the same hymn sheet. Sounds easy doesn't it Bob
  8. I got this charger that works off a fag lighter socket, proving very useful and rekindled my interest in cordless tools. Bob

Planings | Waltet RFSF Recycling Expensive if they are off the stockpile but dirt cheap if they are planing roads locally, pays to keep in touch because they never know what jobs are on the go from one day to the next. They have taken at least 20 tons of it over the weekend Delia , give it a month and they will have cleared the lot , I moved some of our kit off site yesterday and they were loading logs up in front of me. I cant believe they can be bothered to drag it up those banks out of that swamp, I dont think they realise what it is:sneaky2: Bob

  14. The only thing I can see wrong with this is the arc in which the crane will swing. If the load is grabbed there is no provision for the extension to lengthen and shorten when turning. Bob
  15. There is money in this type of firewood if you can deliver it Mr Peckertree , I have shifted thousands of tons of the stuff over the years to old school log boys that are not using processors. Currently getting about £650 a load for sticks and about £500 a load for the bulker bin full of chogs. Bob

  17. It really needs to go on the ballasted bit where the engine and gearbox is. That would solve all the problems and make a decent little mini forwarder. The only issue to overcome on a pivot steer is where the hiab will rest when on the turn. Bob Edit: if you are cutting it about it may be worth extending the chassis and prop on the load area , this will move the axle further back and make it more stable when loaded with the longer lengths. Keep us posted on progress.
  18. I have done this on a forward control thwaites goliath, the hiab is the problem when unloaded. Its so top heavy that it tips the frame onto the stops on anything other than level ground. The only way around this would be to ballast that part of the chassis. The bit with the engine,steering and seat is ok and firmly on the ground but the bit past the swivel is too floppy. I was going to try some springs and shocks between the lateral swivel points to try and control it before I throw the towel in. Nothing wrong with this arrangement if you want a forwarder thats runs around a flat even woodland track. Bob

  20. The Plogs still signs in on occasion but chooses not to post any more, with a bit of luck and a little coaxing he may choose to join in again. Bob

  22. Tough one especially if pricing against others. A decent climber and a couple of groundies would have an easy day on that tree. If cost allowed I would get a decent hiab lorry in with a driver well versed on takedowns, he could also load up and deliver the sticks back to the yard. Bob Someone like Sean Mathews comes to mind ( shameless plug http://www.mandmtransportservices.co.uk/ ), £800 ish a day depending on travelling so a few hours of his time would be money well spent. 28mts with jib on .

  24. 11 x 1.5 I think and there are no off the shelf grease nipples that size. Eagle eye has the right idea, just drill and tap a blank plug. Bob
