  2. The one on the left definitely controls the headlight aim, its used to adjust the beam depending on load on the back, park facing a wall and see if it works Bob

If you want some decent Tarps go into a biggish transport yard and have a chat with the fitters, when the curtainsiders get a bit tatty they get replaced leaving the old ones folded up in the yard . They are normally up for beer money. We have them covering up the hay , they are very heavy duty. Bob
  4. I dont see the difference between disposing of green waste or compacted green waste. The stations charge by the weight, if your burning it there is no difference, if your fly tipping it will only need a smaller layby:confused1:. . The concept is a good one , there was a London tree outfit that used full sized dust carts with the timberwolfs behind . They could run all day with a five man crew without going back to the yard, I have also noticed there is a canter sized dustcart made now so that may be a bit less cumbersome. Bob
  5. Our lads are rhodi bashing at the moment and they are using medium sized saws, if it gets a bit heavy going back one of these over it.

  7. We keep horses and they are in fields with oak , conifer and sycamore all of which can poison a horse but we have never lost one. All the time there is plenty of grass I dont think you have a problem , its when they start foraging they start on things that will kill them.   8. Just by chance the grinding head turns 90 degrees so it can hollow grind or flat with the same wheel. The bed at the back also flips and is adjustable. Other than the round discs on the small greenmech chippers this old girl has done all our vermmeer, timberwolf , schliesling and morbark blades. Brilliant tool. Bob

  10. That Bahco set onfoot has got is better than the one I bought for the lads. I got them this one Bahco S410 Socket Set 41 Piece 1/4in & 1/2in Drive - BAHS410 and its missing to many sizes of socket.No 11,15,18,20,22 and its biggest is 24mm Worth checking the contents before you buy because this set is worse than useless.   13. Going back to to OP , I had one of these Teng sets in the back of the truck along with lots of other bigger stuff but it was this little set that did about 75% of the mobile repairs. TENG T3867 67 piece 3/8" DRIVE SOCKET SET (ratchet, sockets & spanners etc) 0058 | eBay Chuck that on top of a decent 1/2" drive socket set with a breaker bar and a decent roll of spanners and you will be 99% there. The box it came in fell apart after 15 years of constant use and now I can find little or nothing of what used to be in there. The box is really important for spotting whats missing at a glance. Bob
  14. If you want a portable winch with some nuts that could winch all day you need to consider going hydraulic. It would be an easy job to make a mount up to strap it to a tree You could easily run one of the smaller winches off the portable hydraulic power packs and it could also be used on a hydraulic chainsaw if you were in the water. With a bit of ingenuity the bracket could be made so it clips to the front or back of a vehicle and then it would have more than one job.   15. There are a few different types of jaw ,the army have hook type. Trucks that come from the factory piped for air have big train weights so I suppose if you retrofit the air it will need the plate uprated.   16. Not touched on here is the train weight of these trucks. Even our little ten tonner has a train weight of eighteen tons , that's a payload of five ton and eight tons of trailer behind as long as it's piped for air. Peters truck would be a lot more than that. Bob

Top honcho here at Vosa test station this morning said no agricultural vehicles of any sort are allowed on the motorways unless they are granted a special permission, he said that if a unimog is plated,in test, registered and taxed HGV then yes, he also said that run commercially it would be subject to the new drivers cpc and an o`license laws . He never mentioned fuel but did say that agricultural vehicle`s are afforded many concessions but the use of motorways is not one of them. He also said a lot of Mogs run through Guildford station for test and they are all classified HGV. In his mind there are no grey area`s its one or the other. He also said Vosa at Swansea would confirm this so feel free to drop them a line. In my mind stick to the A and B roads and avoid stirring up a can of worms for yourself, if you were pulled by this guy you will be in the dock. Bob
  18. So for about £20 a week over and above the running cost of a transit you can move ten times the amount in one journey. That makes the truck the equivalent of 200mpg if you are busy , you are also saving the cost of an extra driver and staff waiting for the truck to return , I dont know why you bother All for the sake of investing a few quid in a license Bob
  19. I think the figures are misleading. Modern organised sites are not dangerous and I reckon the high deathrate is probably associated with the unregulated sector of the building industry. Many times over the last few years there has been buildings, trenches and roof`s collapse on unskilled eastern european , irish and indian "builders". They are a nightmare and if the government want to do anything at all they should license the trades to make it illegal for people to launch themselves on the public as tradesmen. I really dont think this is a reflection on site safety. Bob
  20. Dont be put off by the spares with yank stuff. If you phone through and pay for parts 3pm our time which is about 9am there they will be on your doorstep 8am the next morning. Thats using UPS, as said they are big into freight services and very good at it, it takes some beating. Also reckon on a £ to the $ by the time it gets here because its racks up with import,vat, freight and handling charges. The UK vat is charged on all of these but you wont incur the mainland yank taxes because its for export. Bob
  21. Geoff the guys are not wrong . Engines made prior to 2006 will benefit by adding a drop of oil to the diesel. The injection systems made prior to this were designed to run with a fuel that had better lubricating qualities. The contentious issue here is whats best to use and from my research plain old cooking (bio) oil is more than adequate at ratio`s of up to 5%. Two stroke,atf and engine oil will all help or do the job . Totally unnecessary in vehicles 2007 onwards but important in the older ones.   22. As far as using two stroke in fuel goes there are varied views on it benefits but this article below sort of puts it into perspective. Adding 2 Stroke Oil to Diesel A liter per fill of good old cooking oil is more than adequate and a fraction of the price. As far as more MPG goes its all down to the right foot, the manufacturers mpg figures can be beaten and some times doubled with careful use of the right foot. Bob Article below. Flagged away from Earls Court on the opening day of the Motor Show, the Carisma traversed France without refuelling, and then went right across Spain and over the ferry to Tangier. Total length of the London-Morocco journey was 1,658.4 miles, at an average fuel consumption of 65.06 mpg. Total fuel used was 25.49 gallons - less than two tankfuls.   23. There are a pile of weights bolted to the front so its not a problem. The old girl has not met its match as far as big ugly trees go including some recently with lean back over a house . Saved dismantling them which would have been at least a weeks work , they were on the floor within the hour . Also recently dragged a 20 ton machine out of a bog . As far as a winch goes I think they take some beating. Bob
  24. My boughton on the nuffield is mounted straight to the back of the tractor. I am led to believe that boughton used a tk bedford crownwheel and pinion inside these winch`s with a mod to the pto shaft.

If you want to ag register a truck it needs to fall into a body type ie tractor etc. For most multipurpose ag vehicles its easier to register them as an ag machine which covers the timber truck , tipper and bowser etc. You then have to be mindful that restrictions do apply like no motorways and some of the ag diesel rules.
