  5. It's my ambition to have my own crew in five Years time and I'll be head hunting ex-soldiers as groundies. For the following reasons, 1 Hard working, 2 The ability to put up with extreme hardship, 3 The art of keeping ones bake shut, 4 Punctuality, 5 Quick learners, 6 Hard as nails, 7 They're fully mental, 8 Loyal to the death, 9 Used to being on **** money! 10 Did I mention fully mental!!! :thumbup:
  6. I'm progressing step by step, I'm in the process of putting a micro pulley behind my prussic knot to tend it on my 13mm Yale Xtc. I'll probably end up on the hitch climber eventually but I don't want to run before I can walk!
  7. I'm thinking of getting some 11.7mm climbing rope. What's Yale blue tongue like with a prussic and maybe down the line a hitch climber set up? Thanks.
  8. I bought a 2.5 liter crew cab Hilux a Month ago, they have a huge reputation for ruggedness and reliability even for a Toyota. There built like a Tiger tank and mine was purchased as a fixer upper. I put four new all terrain tires on it, two new leaf springs, replaced the center section of drive shaft and the propshaft between the gearbox and transfer box and both rear shocks. It also needs a bit of body work plus I'm going to get a five tonne recovery winch for it and a bull bar. I also changed all the fluids and filters, there's over 200,000 Miles on the clock but that's nothing for a Toyota. The only warning I've been given is to keep the nipples on the driveshaft greased regulary. I've only owned Toyota's since I started driving Twenty Years ago bar an Iveco Daily and what a disappointment that was.
  9. I tried but it allows for UK resident only. I'm for the preservation of trees and woodland no matter where they are located.
  10. The best way to sharpen a chain on site is to bang on a fresh chain and keep cutting! I sharpen my chains in a workshop on Saturdays where it's warm, dry and well lit. All heavy maintaince and sharpening is done on Saturdays, all the kit is prepped for the following Week. How much is a chain as apposed to dicking around sharpening a chain on a job. Time is money, I have at least three sharp chains and two bars for every saw I have. Nobody can get a chain really really sharp on site as apposed to a workshop.
  11. The ISC micro was a fixed cheek pulley, I'll just have to play around with it I suppose. Thanks.
  12. Anyone had issues using a small pinto pulley as a slack tender on a W.P.L? I'd been using a cheap ISC micro pulley as a slack tender in conjunction with a distel hitch on some eye to eye 8mm Teufelberger OP cord. The lanyard is 13mm XTC Fire and is well broken in as is the hitch cord. I'm finding the hitch binds and gets tighter and tighter as the Day goes on eventually I have to use two hands to adjust the lanyard. I tried changing carabiners which hasn't helped, I'm thinking of reverting back to my cheapo ISC pulley. All thought and suggestions are welcome, thanks.
  13. Thanks for the feed back lads, sorry about the late reply but I've been up the walls of late. Ideally a fixed recovery winch on the front and a PWC capstan to mount on the rear if needed. It will have to be one or the other as I can't afford both at the moment. I'm leaning toward the capstan as it's more versatile. Thanks lads.
  14. Anyone out there reccommend a quality recovery winch for a 2003 Toyota Hilux? I'm looking for something with a capacity of around 3,500kg's preferably with a quick release bracket so i could mount it on the tow ball at the rear with an adaptor if needed. Thanks.
  15. No, she's running fine just worried about the needle bearing failures that the 261 seems to suffer from. The consensis seems to be that swapping a rim for a spur is the answer.

  18. Thanks for the input lads, i might be robbing Peter to pay Paul so. I'm fairly anal about greasing up the needle bearings every second Day or so. I use Oregon red liquid grease, it's great stuff.
  19. Indeed, the 562xp has the large bar mounts for running 3/8" chain. I'll be in the market for a 60cc saw at some stage and it's either the 562 or the Stihl 362. The fact that i have an Oregon 15" 3/8" bar and a 20" 3/8" Husqvarna bar out in the shed with chains for both may swing it for the 562xp.

  21. I have a 261 (2013) with a rim sprocket and a 241 (2014) with a spur sprocket. Given all the trouble lads have had with their 261's which seem to be attributed to rim sprockets, would it make sense to head off any future problems by swapping the drive sprockets around? What do ye think lads?
  22. There's a lot of snobbery and elitism in this business. It can be quite cliquey and hard to break into if you weren't brought up in the industry. There are also other factors at play like the working man being constantly asked to do more for less. Globaisation, corpoate greed, white collar corruption etc. Get your climbing assessment done and drive on from there.
  23. I'm looking for groundwork in the South of England or Wales for two Weeks in July/August. I have my own tipper, three ground saws, felling gear, ppe, CS30, 31, 32 and three Years experience. P.M me if interested. Thanks.
