  1. Oh! I forgot about my Wetterlings splitting maul.
  2. The Stihl MS241 C-M is actually 42.6 cc's and can run a 18'' bar, i run a 16'' bar on mine with a 26RS .325 chain and it cuts beautifully. I recently took down an 18'' yellow pine with it and it was no problem to it at all. A fantastic limbing saw which is what i bought it for but can fell and crosscut very well. The Stihl chains aren't great and i've purchased two Oregan .325 LPX chains for it, cant wait for them to arrive so i can try them out.
  3. This is a discussion my friends and i have had many times, i'd be going in with a flamethrower, a Stihl ms362 with a 20'' bar, a bag of potatoe masher grenades, and a desert eagle.
  4. I got my hands on an old Husky 61 recently, a friend of mine came by it clearing out a family members shed that had passed away. It was in mint condition bar a broken bumper spike and the bar will need to be replaced soon with a fresh chain to go with it. It had a bared wire which was shorting out against the engine preventing it from starting, a bit of insulating tape and problem solved. I bought a set of proffessional felling spikes from ebay and fitted them, i'm a big fan of a pair of spikes rather than a single one on the inside. The only drawback to the double spikes is that they reduce your cutting capacity by two or three inches. It doesn't have any adjustment on the oil pump so i'd say it would be heavy on oil but a beast of a saw and weighs the same as a modern 70cc saw. These old saws were made to last, no bells and whistles but bomb proof.
  5. It'll probably get to the stage where we'll all be compelled by law to use only Aspen in our saws due to more stringent emmissions controls coming from Brussels.
  6. Might try some Aspen myself, might be good for my innards!
  7. Going by what i've seen on youtube nothing would surprise me when when it comes to yanks and saws. For example i recently watched some idiot with an 880 cutting a three and a half foot diameter hickory log with a pair of beach shorts, a wife beater and a baseball hat, oh and a small boy was sitting on the log about six feet away from him. Probably his son! What a tool! and sadly there's hundreds more like him out there. Thankfully this seems to be mostly a North American issue although we have some idiots closer to home as well.
  8. ''They'' would be tree pro's and saw dealers, your selling the stuff so you would be partial. I believe there's a place for Aspen and by running it through my saws from time to time it definitly improves performance. Given the cost though it's not a runner for me on a full time basis.
  9. Interesting to hear about the aspen issues, i run a tank of it through my saws after every five litres of two stroke/petrol mix and i've never had any problems with starting or performance. Aspen is too expensive to run in my saws all the time so i think i'm getting the best of both worlds. They say Aspen burns hotter that pump petrol so maybe it's harder on the engine over a long period of time. Swings and roundabouts!
  10. I had a good look at the 550xp before i bought my 241, i own a 372xp which is a great saw so i have nothing against Husqvarna. Having used the 241 for a while i think the build quality of the Stihl's is a bit better, There's a bit more meat on the bone if you know what i mean. The air filters on the new Stihl's are far superior as well. The only downside to the 261/261 C-M is their a bit heavy for 50cc saws.
  11. I usually buy my gear online from abbeygardensales.co.uk or skylandequipment.com but neither site have the new 261 C-M yet. I found it on scottisharb.com but it's out of stock and on richmondsgroundcare.co.uk who will ship to Ireland for an amazing 620 Euro. I'm sorely tempted!
  12. Hello, anyone know when the new Stihl ms 261 c-m M-Tronic saw will be released in Ireland and the U.K? It seems to be available in most of western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. It's featured on the U.K Stihl website so i'd say it's release date is soon to be announced. I'm going to splash out on it as i have the 241 M-Tronic and thats a fabulous saw.
