1. Stay away from hobby or farmers saws, what ever brand you end up purchasing get a pro saw. Any of these three would be a great start, Stihl MS 241 with a 15''/16'' bar or a Stihl MS 261 also with a 15''/16'' bar or a Husky 550XP with a 15''/16'' bar. As already mentioned stay away from those quick chain tension yokes, load of crap. Happy cutting.
2. Now that you mention it, I have my eye on a three litre lwb with a new tipper body fitted. Mint condition, I just need to have a good Day on the stock market and it's mine! Thanks.
3. I have a 241 with a 16'' bar coupled with a .325 chain, I bought it to celebrate the birth of my second child last August and I must say both daughter and saw are doing quite well! You can weild this saw all Day no problem, I bought it primarily as a limbing saw and to do all the smaller stuff but I've dropped some 3' plus diameter trees with it no problem. My other saw is a 372 xp with 24'' bar and 3/8'' chain so I really feel the weight difference when I pick the Husky up. A 261 C-M with 18'' bar is next on the list, two more Weeks and she'll be mine. I can't recommend the 241 highly enough, a little hard on the restarts if you run it dry but that's the same with all saws that don't have a primer bulb. Other than that fantastic, go out and get yourself one. You know you want to!
4. Anyone had any experiences good or bad with the Iveco Daily crew cab tipper? I'm thinking of buying one, any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
5. Good man, I spotted it a few Days back. It ticks all the boxes except for the price and the back seats have been removed which isn't a big deal. Thanks.
6.
How's the form? How much would you charge to port and muff mod two saws? Namely a Stihl MS241 and a Husky 372XP. Thanks.

7. I'm in the market for a lwb crew cab tipper with around 100k miles on the clock and a minimum of 130bhp. I do tree work part time so it will also be used for driving to and from my other job, going to the local shop for milk and bread plus the school run! Crew cabs are hard to find above 115bhp and the few that are out there are on the expensive side. My budget extends to around nine thousand Euro, any advice would be more than welcome. Thanks.
8. Outstanding! It's for sale on ebay from America for around 500 Euro inc shipping. There's a few videos of it up on youtube. Looks like a little rocket of a saw.
9. Does anyone own or operate a Husky 543 XP? It seems to be Husqvarna's answer to the Stihl MS241 C-M which is superb.
10. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a semi-pro saw or a hobby saw, a complete waste of time and money. Spend the extra bit of money and you'll reap the rewards for Years to come. I buy and run only pro saws because their built to work all Day and will if properly maintained last for Years. Even if you only use a saw every now and again I'd advise the purchase of a pro saw. For firewood I'd recommend the fantastic Stihl MS241 C-M with a 16'' bar which I own. Other options would be either the Stihl MS261 C-M or a Husky 550XP with an 18'' bar. Happy cutting:thumbup:
11. Good man, I'm from Cork. I won't be buying these saws till the end of the Year, probably around the middle of November. I have my eye on a 562 on ebay in America for 715 Euro inc shipping and customs. It has the large bar mount and I'm planning to run 3/8'' full skip chain on it with a 20'' bar. The 550xp and the 562 will fill the gap between the 241 and the 372. The 660 with a 30'' bar will be my milling saw and in time I'll be buying an 880. I'll contact you in a few weeks If it suits you because I'd be interested in having some work done on the 241 and the 372. Thanks a lot.
12. How much would it cost to have a saw modified? Would it be a good idea to modify a milling saw? I'll be using the 660 primarily as a milling saw and breaking it out the odd time for big felling and cross cutting jobs. I've seen dual port mufflers for 660's on ebay, I'd be well able to fit that myself so I'd just need someone to do the piston and timing work. Thanks for all the replies.
13. I currently own and operate a Stihl MS241 and a Husky 372XP and I'll be purchasing a Husky 550XP, a 562XP and a Stihl 660 before the end of the Year. I'm thinking of having some of these saws modified, piston porting and muffler mods. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a saw modified? Also who are the people to contact about getting this kind of work done and what are the costs involved? I live in Ireland, thanks.
14. Any of the Irish climbers out there know where I could practice my climbing in the mid-Cork area? Thanks.
15. Stihl MS241 C-M with 16'' bar and a Husqvarna 372XP with 20'' and 24'' bars. I'd love to have a Stihl MS261 C-M with an 18'' bar, a Stihl MS661 C-M with a 28'' bar and a Stihl MS880 with a 36'' bar. Full skip chisel chains from Americaland are the only way to go on big saws with a pro set of felling dogs.
16. Yes, a big chip maker! I know of someone selling a 60 tonne hydrolic ram. That will prob be my first purchase, would a 14hp desiel engine drive it? Would a heavy duty desiel generator drive a 60 tonne ram? Thanks.
17. My 372xp has a limited carb and i was trying to tune it on the ground. I'll put it through some wood and see can i get it to four stroke a little like your video. thanks
18. I bought my MS241 in August and it was running like a dream till last Week. I had all the problems you described, unresponsive throttle, frequent cutting out and running a bit rich like it wasn't getting enought air. I did as you did, i ran it on high idle for 70 seconds from a cold start and then shut it off and restarted and gave it full revs for 15 seconds all to no avail. I had a quick look through the manual and there is a page on the winter/summer shutter on the engine. When i bought the saw i went through the manual and i made a mental note about the shutter. It has to be changed from summer to winter mode when the temperature drops below 10 degrees celcius. That ties in with the drop in performance over the last ten Days because it's gotten very cold with the day time temp never rising above 8 degrees. The shutter slides out with the aid of a flat bladed screwdriver and is reversed and slid back in until you hear a click. The apature in the shutter is wider in winter mode so more air can get in, just have to remember to change it back when it gets warmer next Year. I tried out the saw with the shutter in winter mode and all the problem had gone. Fingers crossed that i don't have anymore snags with it. I hope this can be a help to other Stihl MS241C-M M-tronic saw owners.
19. Also which screw am i to adjust, L or H? Thanks.
20. I'm thinking about putting together my own home made log splitter? Has anyone out there built one? i've seen some great ones on youtube. I'm thinking of a 30 tonne ram with an RSJ as a bed welded to an old trailer chasis. I'd like to run it with a desiel engine and have a metal gridded plate instead of a knife for the actual splitting. Could i built it for 500 Euro or less? Any advice or tips are most welcome. Thanks.
21. I have a 372xp that's running a bit lean, i know that i can richen it up a bit by adjusting the low and high jets but by how much? and do i need a tach to do it?
22. Thanks for the review, honey brothers have it now. I think i might splash out and get it for myself as a Christmas present. Lord knows i deserve it!
23. Outstanding, thanks. If you could write up a detailed review i'd appreciate it.
